the Doom II wad has non censored levels in them
Well, installed sikkmod and Wulfen's texture pack on my old D3 install I still had on my comp. Hot damn does it look great - but holy shit Parallax mapping + soft shadows kills my FPS. It's either 1 or the other, and Soft Shadows are more noticeable so I guess I'll be going with them.

Just found this mod on ModDB that seems to have Skikimod and wulfen's mod, but with a lot of other things too. Might be worth seeing how that one is
Thanks for the link, I'll try that as well.
Also, turns out I CAN use Parallax mapping, just not Parallax Occlusion Mapping
EDIT: Tried out the HD mod, don't really like it because you can't customize it ingame like you can with regular sikkmod, and some things look weird.
I got higher poly meshes for Doom 3 instead
Dat imp polycount:

Better than BFG edition
Do you happen to know the cfg or console code for that Parallax Occlusion Mapping you mentioned? Getting some lag myself in that HD mod.
I wish more mods overhauled that HUD, it looks so low-res compared to everything else.
Fucks sake, that HD mod runs so terribly. I guess I'll have to just use Sikkmod.
So I finished ROE and Lost Missions in under 5 Hours total, kinda let down. I also think the game is easier with more ammo and health lying around, I found Veteran in Lost Mission to be barely challenging.

Just finished whole Doom 3 with addons in BFG Edition.
Feels like I ate a barrel full of shit.
Beated it on Veteran using only shotty, SMG and rocket launcher.
Looks like all weapons and monsters are rebalanced. Seriously, an Imp misses with fireball standing next to me and not even try to bite or use his claws.
I just don't get it.
Looks like all weapons and monsters are rebalanced.
The demons themselves don't appear to be altered much, but ammo counts have been greatly increased all around in the BFG Edition. This is the main factor explaining why a lot of people are finding this re-release to be much easier than before.
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2973683
Pardon my double post regarding this thread, but in response to that guy's claims " It's confimed by bethesda that it's running in Ultra Quality", I just took a screenshot comparison between the original disc release and the BFG Edition:
Original PC disc release on Ultra (uncompressed textures) quality:

BFG Edition (compressed textures):

I think this is pretty definitive visual evidence to put the argument to rest.
so is zandronum the most liked/recommended Doom source port now?
so is zandronum the most liked/recommended Doom source port now?
For multiplayer, I personally prefer GZDoom for singleplayer.
Skulltag/Zandronum is directly based off GZDoom anyways.
I actually enjoyed the new Lost Mission maps, particularly the Hell segment.
The boss fight incredibly anti climatic, a couple BFG shots and I was done. They didn't even use the Hell skins on the demons in hell.
True, the final fight was disappointing.
But still, most of Hell was pretty awesome. Cool level design and lots of enemies to shoot at. I really hope that's an indication of what id software is planning for Doom 4.
wasn't the fov only changeable via console in Doom 3?
and how is the old graphics options missing a bad thing? No one needs low settings for this game, the system requirements are higher than the original Doom 3, and none of Doom 3's minimum specs would be able to run this game
I meant "old" as in all the choices you could make like Anti-aliasing, Texture quality, Screen resolution options. I mean, those are pretty basic options in menus nowadays.
Those are not even in the Doom 3 BFG edition.
Honestly, all things considered - the BFG Edition is excellent for console-goers. You won't notice the compressed textures as much, Doom 2 comes with the XBLA bonus episode (although the censored Wolf3D maps are stupid, but what can ya do), and things like the FOV won't be anywhere near as noticeable due to the average distance from your TV. It's just that the damn PC version is such a hardlined console port that it's a letdown for everyone on that system, veteran fans and series newcomers (that would notice, anyway) alike; those that don't care for the FOV, game balance or graphical oddities not withstanding this argument, naturally.

You're talking out of your ass a bit. The game still has anti-aliasing and screen resolution options. And there's really no need to turn down texture quality. In and of itself, BFG edition isn't that bad of a release. However, the lockdown of the game's files is the part that really bugs me personally. Unacceptable, in my opinion, for a game with such great modding support in the past.
Cool level design
Yeah, the level design in The Lost Mission was pretty "cool", if by "cool" you mean "obviously copy and pasted from the original levels."
The Lost Mission:
[t]http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/7637/2012102000003.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img819/3484/2012102000006.jpg[/t]
Original Doom 3 maps:
[t]http://imageshack.us/a/img17/5645/2012102000020.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img41/6756/2012102000008.jpg[/t]
I think The Lost Mission contains a total of about 15% new content, the rest being cleverly (and not-so-cleverly) disguised existing Doom 3 maps with some RoE sprinkled in for good measure.
I don't like RoE just for replacing chainsaw with cheap ass gravity gun.
Yet I hate it for not sharing DB Shotty with original game.
I like the grabber, makes fighting Hell Knights less of a pain.

but what pc can't handle max settings on Doom 3? It'd be pointless to include them
AA and screen res are options though

just change the FOV using the console command or entering it into the cfg
[editline]20th October 2012[/editline]
if ID patches in the ability to turn off texture compression and allow mod support, this will be the best version of Doom 3, but looking at the Bethesda forums, they don't even respond to them
Looks like they're going to release the source code for the BFG edition (Minus third party bits, which is suppository only Xbox, PS3, Steam and Bink code)
Seems like the community will be able to make their own decent PC port (Doesn't quite make up for the poor port, But it's a better situation then it could be)
So, I kind of blundered in and bought the BFG edition, expecting it to NOT be a console port. I'm upset, but figured I could get past that. However, I accidentally turned on the 3D options, and now I can't even open the damn thing to fix it. anybody know how I could change settings without opening the program?

Go to your Nvidia controll panel and find the 3D options there.
anybody know how I could change settings without opening the program?
Your Doom 3: BFG Edition config is stored in the following folder:
C:\Users\[Your Windows Login]\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM 3 BFG\base
The file you want to edit is D3BFGConfig.cfg. However, you may just want to delete it entirely and let the game generate a fresh one.
I know we are technically floating heads with hands but I didn't think it went this far

Okay, sorry. I was saying what was being said on the steamuser forums. I didn't want to buy it to check it.
