I like the doom 3 explanation that someone was likely very fucking drunk and somehow mis-ordered a shipment of chainsaws to fucking mars, and they were dumped in a storage room somewhere because it'd cost too much to send them back.

Something to the tune of: "What the fuck are we going to do with chainsaws on Mars?"
that explanation is really funny until you realize there are chainsaws which are made to cut metal and concrete but if you choose to remain ignorant like myself then it makes total sense
Circular saws are often the go-to choice for that, not chainsaws (unless you're talking about trench diggers, which are totally different.) EDIT: Wow, there are slab-cutting chainsaws. Fucking neato! Circular saws aren't as metal, though. Even if Chainsaws are actually extremely horrible to use on living creatures as they often get gummed up with hide, flesh, bone, etc. [sp]Awful source: I think it was a farmer or hunter who tested that myth on some dead game he came across. He said it didn't very well.[/sp]
Yeah, you taught me something new: [t]http://www.fuscorentalworld.com/itemimages/11699.jpg[/t] I still don't think they'd be much better on flesh, but hey! It's a thing.
This is being insanely optimistic, but maybe there is trees on mars, like mars is terraformed now. like in the original doom. I hope the outside environments aren't just mars as a red planet like in doom 3 were you needed oxygen tanks.
The ones send to Mars are supposedly made to cut woods, either that or the writers at ID didn't know about concrete chainsaws.

Although gore would also probably gum up the works a little unless the saw's internals have some sort of superheated high-pressure spray that scalds the gore off of the blades. But that doesn't matter when the notion of carving demons up like a goose against a turkey strimmer is pretty metal. [editline]16th June 2015[/editline]
The ones send to Mars are supposedly made to cut woods, either that or the writers at ID didn't know about concrete chainsaws.
Plus concrete chainsaws probably weren't around back in 2003. Or were they?
concrete chainsaws are pretty much harmless to flesh. Normally a chainsaw is just a rotating chain with a bunch of really sharp bits on it, but a concrete chainsaw replaces the sharp bits for thick, dull, flat cuboids that stand up much better to concrete but are useless at cutting wood, and, more importantly, flesh. I mean it'll still rip skin off just by the bits grabbing at the skin and pulling, but it wont cut through muscle, let alone bone.
They're probably extra careful with marketing Doom 4 and that's why they're doing this. After all, Doom 4 has been in development hell and has had shit said about early footage that is clearly what put them into this super-wary mode, they're probably terrified of players taking the real footage and getting the wrong idea and so they're touching it up to make it look as stellar as possible. Given how rabid people are ALREADY being towards Doom 4's heavily-scripted gameplay trailer, I reeeally don't blame them being this scared of negative feedback. No offense Doom fans, I'm a fan too, but we can be a bit of an angry bunch and are kind of outwardly negative to any idea of change way too often.
Apparently snackpack or whatever it's called was actually the last thing Carmack was working on before leaving id. Still though, we'd better get full mod tools.
Apparently snackpack or whatever it's called
Snapmap, but now I'm calling it that.
does your appetite have what it takes to be able to process the flavor-blasting power of NEW Doom Snackpacks?
Now with nutritious and tasty GIBS OF DEMON FLESH!
So it's like a really thin block-based sanding belt?
Kind of. Except it sands really quickly.
I wonder how meatbally pain elemental will look
I wonder how meatbally pain elemental will look
Probably so much that when you gib it, it spills linguine and marinara sauce all over the floor. Also it has hair like melted cheddar cheese.
Buggery, now I want Italian. Which is silly since I had a lot of chicken already.

SnapMap reminds me so much of the Timesplitters map maker.

Full modding capability would salvage any possible fuckup this game could bring. Which is exactly why they won't give it.
Full modding capability would salvage any possible fuckup this game could bring. Which is exactly why they won't give it.
I dunno, Carmack seemed hopeful on Twitter and Bethesda seems to understand the importance of modding with Fallout 4 so they may allow it for all we know. I personally wouldn't mind seeing someone modding in recreations of the original weapons just for shits and giggles.
D4 really REALLY needs less brown. I'd take mismatched overly colourful like the originals than an "art style" that leans entirely on samey colours.
I've never properly sat down and played DOOM, but since I'm hype for DOOM 4 I suppose now would be a good time to do so.
a little color contrast would be nice indeed not shade contrast red on blue *coughcodemon* not brown on darker, less saturated brown
So I've never properly sat down and played DOOM, so what would be the right ones to get? Is Ultimate Doom the steam version of the original Doom? Also, is Final DOOM an expansion to DOOM 2 or the full game with more levels?
Ultimate Doom is Doom 1 with 9 extra levels. Final Doom is a standalone expansion for Doom II. All of them are great as they are very similar in gameplay but Doom II is the one to get if you want to mod the game.
Ultimate Doom is the complete version of the original Doom including the fourth episode Thy Flesh Consumed. (4 episodes with 9 maps each) Doom 2 is Doom 2. (32 maps) If, for some reason, you only choose one, this is the game to go with as it is the biggest stepping stone for modding and the like. Final Doom is, effectively, a standalone expansion of Doom 2 containing two new individual campaigns, Evilution and Plutonia. (64 maps total) Final Doom doesn't contain any new monsters or weapons, but the level sets are highly regarded nonetheless. If you're looking to buy the game on Steam, you'll also see the Master Levels for Doom II. This is an odd ball set of individual levels (21 maps) with no strict connections. While not bad, there's no reason to jump into these right off the bat. If you wish to play any of these games on modern systems, you're going to want to use a source port. Most digital releases only pack the game with DOSBox which is not ideal. The easiest way to get the games up and running is to use ZDoom. However, if you're interested in a more authentic experience that still allows modern conveniences such as widescreen support, contemporary key setups, more configuration options, and the like, I'd recommend PrBoom+. And just because it must be mentioned, if you want an absolutely vanilla experience just as people played two decades ago, there's always Chocolate Doom.
On that topic, GZdoom is the one you'll want if you desire to run a shit ton of mods. Some larger mods add graphical effects that will not work outside of GZdoom. If you desire to play with a friend, Zandronum is the way to go.
