My buddy and I got Zandronum and played the latest version of Brutal Doom for a while, was pretty brutal.
There are better mods out there than Brutal doom, guys. It's fun, and it's alright, but I feel it might be a little too glorified for what it's worth.
Anyway anyone remember All out War 2? I seriously hated that, it was filled with DrZ members all the time, they weren't exactly the brightest in the bunch.

Honestly, it wasn't until I heard about Brutal DOOM that I got back into the game, vanilla DOOM had gotten a bit stale after playing far too many slaughter maps.
Then I guess you haven't played Skulltag? Duel, deathmatch, ctf, invasion were the shit. Invasion unleashed is probably still my favorite invasion wad despite the whole bullshit with Wolfygirl.

Yeah, played it. Those were pretty fun, but didn't quite have the whole "man this thing is fun again" factor. Probably due to BD being something that I can apply to every wad. Recently played the modern guns wad, aka modern doomfare, and found that too be pretty grand as well.
Course, Zandodrum still has the occasional awesome looking server with a 64 player limit filled with only 2 people that actually turns out to be a private server. Apparently making private servers is too hard for some folks.

Try that with a large Oblige wad with a high monster amount setting. It can get so bad that calling the game a slideshow would be an understatement.
is there any kind of .mus to .midi file converter?
one that actually works?
From what I have read, the editor Slade is supposed to have an option to extract a .mus as a .midi.
You guys wanna check out WIP pictures of a map I'm making?

It's very green on purpose, I'm trying to make a map while limiting myself to a certain set of textures.

holy shit right mouse button is a magical device
One of the guys over at the ZDoom forums made a HUD that I thought was pretty cool:

Can be found here: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=35529
It's still a WIP, but I love in-helmet HUDs like Metroid's and Republic Commando's.

I like it, those textures aren't bad at all (and neither is the mapping)

Limiting yourself to a certain set is alright, but make sure it's not bland. Check one of Esselfortium's mapping tutorials, they'll help ya out.

Long 128-wide hallways are a big no-no, especially when you have doors that are flush with them. Try widening them a bit and making an alcove for the door. Something like this:

It wouldn't hurt to add some side-areas and subrooms off the hallway as well to make it more interesting.
I should really go back to making maps. I've pretty much learned how to do very basic stuff (including doors) on my own, but there's a lot of stuff I don't know like how to change the level names, how not to include the wall of text separating the acts in doom II, etc.
Could use some quick help on that.
I was having much joy playing Samsara mod with Scythe maps. It was all fun and games until I stepped in the map 26:
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/SeeYouInHell.png[/img_thumb]
For the curious, the enemies counter is 666.

6 cyberdemons? Seems like this will be plenty of fun.

Actually, there's about 8 (or 9, can't remember which). I remember making it to this map while playing an early version of Brutal Doom and dying so damn much. Scythe was pretty fun up until this map.
It also taught me that getting a berserk early can make or break a run.

There's 7 in that screenshot. :v:

Hell, you'll like invasion wads, I'm sure.
The Doom movie might be shit, but you got admit the art team got the Doom 3 style down. The enemies looked like they were from Doom 3, the computer screens looked like Doom 3.
The Pinky looked almost exactly like the Doom 3 Pinky other then the wheels.
Quakecon has been officially dated for August 1-4. Maybe we'll get some
~doom~
stuff.

So apparently this exists in BD as well.
Damn. As partially a joke at the censorship and alterations in the PSN and Xbox Live Arcade (and Doom 3 BFG Edition) versions of The Ultimate Doom and Doom 2, I tried replacing the medical crosses on the Stimpack, Medpack, and Berserk Pack sprites with, well, the pills via SLADE.
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/4mVlI96.png[/img_thumb]
I was partially successful; the HUD certainly shows the change, but the in-game sprites don't alter at all. Anyone know the problem?
[editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
Welp, nevermind. Turns out I need to add 'SS_START' and 'SS_END' markers in SLADE for it to start reading sprite replacements. Most pointless replacement ever and it isn't designed with item rotations or such in mind, but if you really want it, you could throw it in your skins folder, and rename the .pk3 extension to .wad if you do so. (DRD doesn't let you upload wads by themselves for some reason.) :v:

dammit!
i cant get my weapon woth custom sprites and sounds to work
its constantly giving me a "weapon has no frames"
can anyone point out what am i doing wrong here?
(its in decorate ofcourse)
actor cpistol : weapon replaces pistol
{
inventory.pickupmessage "this shit doesnt want to work"
weapon.ammotype "clip"
weapon.ammouse 1
weapon.ammogive 15
weapon.slotnumber 2
weapon.upsound "pistol_up"
attacksound "pistol_fire"
states
{
spawn:
pisw a -1
stop
ready:
pisv a 1 a_weaponready
loop
select:
pisv a 0 a_raise
pisv a 1 a_raise
loop
deselect:
pisv a 0 a_lower
pisv a 1 a_lower
loop
fire:
pisv a 0 a_gunflash
pisv b 4 a_firebullets(0, 0, 1, 10, "bulletpuff", 1)
pisv c 6
pisv b 6 a_refire
pisv a 2
goto ready
flash:
pisv f 7 bright a_light1
pisv f 0 bright a_light0
stop
}
}
It's been awhile since I have used Decorate but I believe there shouldn't be a space between some of the letters and numbers. Like so:
ready:
pisv a1 a_weaponready
loop
rather than
ready:
pisv a 1 a_weaponready
loop
However there's a good chance I'm wrong because it has been quite awhile since I've used it and I never used it terribly thoroughly.

Looks like I am actually wrong. But have you had a look at this at least?

Yeah, it's a shame that they copped out and went with a virus instead of actual demons from hell. It's weird, the Doom books ended up doing something similar. Is everyone too afraid to have the hell references or something?
Oh and in Doom news, the Doom Roguelike got an update this week: http://doom.chaosforge.org/ The changelog is pretty big, including stuff like online updates, online mod support, and a bunch of other things.

Well, the (original) novels HAD Hell references, but it turns out, nah, the creatures were just hell-like aliens. But then the novels also had evil Mormon armies taking over the Earth.
I think it was the Doom 3-esque novels that had the virus thing though.
