I actually read all 4 doom books for one of those school projects they give you to do over the summer when I was a kid.
It was funny, everybody's posters were of all nice books and things, and mine was the doomguy blowing a hole in the cyberdemon.

Some wonderful anon on /vr/ is currently working on a Contra weapons wad for doom.
I am beyond fucking hyped for this.

What is with that hud? It looks fairly bad and it has 8 slots for weapons.

Retro games, and as of right now still one of the best places to talk about vidya on 4chan

From what was said AND personal experience, its supposed to be like the way the HUD is shown in the Playstation version of Doom/Final Doom.
i decided to try and do something with the Army of Darkness poster

I'm tempted to edit that because I want a version I can use as a desktop background
was thinking of making a wallpaper version but i couldn't find wide enough mountain pics
i think it was this one

also my Cyberdemon is now good and proper

Ever think of porting any of these models over to the Doomsday engine?
Ever think of porting any of these models over to the Doomsday engine?
nope, someone else can do that when i've released these
Been working on a (hopefully) neat map the past week or so. It has an interesting little gimmick that I'm experimenting with, where when the player is in the sun he takes damage, but not when he's in the shade.
That sounds extremely crutchy to be honest. Doom has its extreme movement and you're limiting that by using shades to stop the player from getting hurt. I like the idea, but I'm afraid it might feel very limiting to most players.
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure if I'm satisfied with the idea yet. It definitely does limit your movement, but I like the gimmick for now. When I have the level completed I'll upload it or something and if it's not well received I'll have to change it.
You may try making the damage just high enough to be a concern but not high enough to be a limiting factor.
I recommend that everyone tries Ultra UAC wad, I have been playing it recently and it's really fun and has really good custom textures. It's a little on the easy side but it has a cool custom last boss.
Also I was playing some individual maps by a fucking amazing mapper named Kaiser (He did the doom64 TC)
I played I think what was last in his series called Kaiser_22 "Crossfire" and it's one of the best singular maps I have ever played. It has amazing detail, enemy placement, non-linear design, it's not too hard and not too easy, it's got some cool moments, and it has some good length.
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=14193 I would go ahead and play this one. It just stands out to me for some reason, it's got everything I love Doom maps in it. Maybe it has too much health packs but I don't care.
Of course Marphy would rate me late because he literally knows everything about every classic fps ever ever
Currently you take about one damage per second. I might have to reduce it a little bit, but I think it's about right for now.
If it's possible I'd suggest maybe having it so it depends on your difficulty level with Hurt Me Plenty maybe being what you already have. You might also do something with armor as well. It wouldn't exactly make sense for the sun damage to take away armor. But you might be able to do something like have armor slow down the sun damage or delay it depending on the amount you have. (Maybe a tic per armor point?) It'd take more work but it would definitely balance it more.

Nah, it's part of Marphy's weird rating system.
He likes to rate everyone late, zing, informative, or optimistic.

Pff, nothing beats useful.
anyone tried Phobos Revisited? all E1 levels completely remade and redesigned, while keeping roughly the same layouts. it's pretty entertaining, especially with Brutal DOOM and on Ultra Violence
also is Hell Revealed as crazy as it sounds
There is also Knee Deep in ZDoom.
Currently working on my first serious map's layout, I am actually pretty good at this for a beginner. It's going to be classic space station theme and idea, but kind of more believable that it once housed civilians and workers in an abstract way without taking away the open areas, gameplay, and interesting tid bits. I have also played a shit ton of doom wads, so I know what to avoid in level design. Also I like really unlinear levels and some backtracking and perhaps having people make choices on which key to get first and have the player judge which keys are harder to get and what weapons you get from each area.
What if we did a little mapping project? That would be cool.
holy shit Hell Revealed WAS JUST AS CRAZY as i thought
i couldn't get further than map 16 without IDDQD because i'm a total pussy. oh well at least i completed half of it legitly. jesus christ five cyberdemons in one level
i've killed at least ten spider masterminds, dozens of cyberdemons, hundreds of arch-viles and mancubi, thousands of hell knights and barons and at least ten thousand imps, zombies, pinkies and minigunners
i fucking love it, shame i died about seventy times in one level before i swallowed my pride and enabled IDDQD

My problem with a lot of these more famous wads is that they usually get slaughter wad-ish about halfway in. That takes a certain skillset that I don't really have. :v:
i tried playing Hell Revealed 2 with Brutal Doom on Ultra Violence
the first map fucked me sideways
later, 677 monsters in one map, most of them in one area. oh the joy, oh the pain
I wish there was an Autoshotgun for Brutal Doom. I always have nearly 100 shells at any time, no matter how often i use the shotguns. An AA12 would work wonder against all the demons
Since there's no Duke thread, I'll just drop this here

why not just replaces the shotgun shells with health and armor bonuses and give the boomsticks infinite ammo
