Cacoawards is hopefully still due for today.
[sp]Or not. This is basically is exactly what happened in 2012 oh god it's happening again.[/sp]
Happy birthday, Doom!
Here everyone, have a video of John Romero documenting the entire first episode of Doom:

That was a really good listen. It was really interesting listening to Romero's thoughts on level design and the development of the game.
He calls Brutal Doom 'Hilarious'
Also I love hearing the story behind his head in Doom 2 from him.
So far, I'm really enjoying Wrack. I wish more games would take inspiration from Doom. Though I'm not really a fan of how the other two episodes are DLC. Seems kind of shitty to make you pay extra for the entire rest of the game, especially since it's not even done yet.
Oh, so it turned out they actually just meant there will be more content in development later once the base game is done. They just didn't realize that putting future content in the menu, greying them out, and labeling them "DLC" looks really bad. :v:

It is :v: here.
It is :v: here.
Damn it, not again.
But yeah, judging by what was said to me, the "DLC" missions in the menu really upset people and drove them away. They probably should have labeled them "coming soon" instead.
Romero posted more Doom related shit (the old sketches and closeups of the clay models) on his FB:

It'd be killer if they modeled the demons in Doom 4 off these sketches, so classic but with so much detail

I have been working at id Software full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The history of the company and the possibility of working on the next big thing is a powerful draw. The pay is reasonable, and there are still some really good people here trying to make the best of the situation. If you're a strong, self-motivated individual, you'll get a chance to learn a lot and grow more than you would at other companies.
Cons – The upper management. Hands down they are the most incompetant, arrogant, and untrustworthy managers I've ever worked for in over ten years in this industry. They are doing such a horrible job that we've lost over a hundred people, including John Carmack, in the last two years. They're bleeding the company dry of time, money, and talent; before they all bail with their golden parachutes. Zenimax is a patient, supportive publisher that takes a hands off approach, which normally would be great, but in this case is allowing the management to waste their time and money. People sit around untasked for weeks or months at a time, until the next publisher demo, so there is lots of time for people to sit around and be nasty to each or play politics to grab whatever favor they can. There is no chance for advancement or career growth, and Zenimax has stopped giving bonuses because the studio consistently fails to deliver. The game itself is re-invented every six months to a year, so there is no foward progress to show for the last two years.
Advice to Senior Management – Zenimax needs to step in and take a hard look at the people they have running the studio. We need drastic changes and real leadership if id software is going to survive into the next generation. To their credit, Zenimax recently installed a corporate "spy" to report to the board about what's going on, but we need real action to confront the challenges we face as a company.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
If there is a Doom 4, it has to be a return to form.
Can anyone get in contact with these guys and ask them about 1.0?
http://www.wireheadstudios.org/
I've tried to register at their forums but it never gets approved
I mean I've posted it before but it just looks so fucking good compared to what's released.

Considering I don't own a single Doom game and have only played some of it online and/or watched videos of it, is Doom 3: BFG Edition a good purchase, as it's only about 8 pound on Amazon? Personally, I'm more excited to play through Dooms 1 & 2 than 3.

Never buy a BFG Edition for Doom 1-2.

No fucking way!
Any particular reason? Are the first two poorly optimized for consoles (which must be pretty impossible for a 20 year old game)? I heard they didn't have cheats, but that shouldn't matter too much, right?

I think one of the main reasons is because Doom 2 secrets got pretty fucked: the secret level of Wolfenstein got fucked up, they removed anything related to nazis, ruinning the experience. Also BFG edition is just a waste of money
I finally finished the first DooM a few weeks ago!
[sp]the final boss was disappointing because (a) it wasn't satan and (b)I just stood around and waited for the npcs to kill him[/sp]

Against what the others say, i'll state this; if you're considering it for a console, it's not a bad deal whatsoever. If you have a computer that isn't outdated to shit, though, I instead recommend getting the original games on Steam or something, because aside from the censorship for Doom 2, it really messes with some design aspects of Doom 3 that they never bothered to fix.

The cyberdemon should have been the final one.
If you want to fight hell itself you should play doom 2.

You also forgot about no mods support.

[sp]The final boss is even more disappointing in 2,[/sp] but in any case I still need to legitimately finish Doom 1 and 2 myself eventually..
What the fuck is disappointing about blasting Satan's brains to bits with a rocket launcher?
Bit more E1M1 progress

The way it is done.
I don´t get why people dislike the explosions of Quake2. They are tons better than the sprite explosions of Halflife, and feel really fluid with a nice mushroom cloud in 3d.

the unnecessary 3d effects were a major contributor to the fact that Quake 2 felt like nothing but an extended tech demo to me
