Also, to sum up the Brutal Doom argument: "How DARE you like a thing I dislike! This is worse than that!" Etc, etc. Let people like what they want, and drop the argument. It literally does not matter at all how people like to play Doom. Want to play vanilla? Fine. Want to play Brutal Doom? Fine. Want to play Real Guns Advanced 2? Fine. Want to play Complex Doom? I question your sanity, but alright. Want to play [insert mod here]? Play however the hell you want.
What's so bad about Complex Doom? It just looks like a texture replacement pack
It's a monster and weapon replacement mod. It's unbalanced as a heck, for example, a minigun commando can be replaced by a 10k bfg commando, arachnotrons can be replaced by 10kbfg weilding baby demolishers, Spider Demolishers have flying Arachs with both the 9k bfg and the Devastator. You can die so very, very easily. It is, however, extremely fun in invasion, oddly enough. How, I have no idea. Edit: Oh yeah, the weapons are all standard but with clips, but that isn't the kicker. There are better versions that are rare drops of rare monsters. With low drop rates.
I kinda want the sprites from BD sperglord edition mixed in with Doom Expanded, and the sounds from D64
I like BD because the AI gets a little revamped, makes you feel like a little bitch on the harder difficults, if you manage to complete some section that looks impossible makes you feel like "Hell yeah, i'm motherfucking badass"
You guys should all really try BD Sperglord edition (especially with the big addon pack he includes in the seperate download, load up the 'alternate sounds' and 'alternate sprites' package because they're objectively way better) if you're kinda iffy on Brutal Doom. I am iffy on it, if you're not talking about Sperglord Edition. I feel like the balance is a little more there, the sounds and sprites (again if you use the alternate package) are beyond better, and he added secondaries for all weapons which gives each way more mileage in certain situations. I tend to find myself switching weapons for certain situations way more than regular BD. I use the super shotgun for groups of weak zombies or to painlock archviles, I use the shotgun to headshot higher level enemies in close-quarters situations, and the chaingun to mow down huge groups of enemies and keep them painlocked. Stuff like that, that I feel I do more in Sperglord over regular.
Yeah I got SE and it actually got me interested in BD again regular BD also I can't stand some of the sounds and how loud they are.
I just recently played through Doom 1 with Brutal Doom and I honestly really liked it. It felt like what the original Doom was trying to be without the limitations of the time. Weapon balance didn't feel that off too me, only made the pistol/assault rifle more viable. I still found myself using the shotgun most of the time though, swapping to the rocket launcher and plasma rifle when I needed the firepower, like against Barons of Hell or large swarms. The only thing that really broke the game to me was jumping, since it let you bypass some puzzles or get secrets easier, though I think thats the source port more than the mod.
What engine does everybody here use? I'm just curious to what's everybody's personal preference. I'm using GZDoom.
I like using ZDoom with Vanilla-style gameplay. I checked my Doom mod folder and it turns out I have 7772 different mods (20.2gbs total in size)
Fighting Bruiser with Rocket Launcher is a bad idea, the rockets exploded prematurely right in front of me and killed me.

I did an IDFA to just take a look, but didn't see any upgraded versions. Using Complex Doom 5.3, not sure if that's the latest.

I'm on the hype train.
Eh... I've gotten cynical over the years.. a few seconds of pre-rendered stuff doesn't hype me up as much as it used to...

That door sound effect :v: [editline]10th June 2014[/editline]
Eh... I'll get excited when those assets can display an 8v8 slaughterfest at 120 frames without being dithered and scaled all to fuck and no shared animations between players. All fans have been waiting for is prettier ways to rip and tear, and they've had to start over three times. It'll be a literal infernal miracle if they pull this shit off correctly.
I'm a bit skeptical. I've heard bad things about id Software recently, and I found RAGE too boring to even finish.
I'm not going to cast DooM off into the dirt... but I WILL reserve judgement till I see some gameplay.
Then it's time to await Quakecon 2014 to see just what we're getting to, eh?
I hope new DooM is not on idTech5. This trainwreck of engine must die already.
One thing I hope for sure is that all the doors will open with a variation of that sound, that'd be fun :v:
That's the new cyberdemon? Hot damn.
Please be good please be good please be good. And please no modern FPS bullshit like stamina bars or fatigue. I want MORE mobility. Give me rocket boots powered by demon blood instead or at least let me move fast all the time.
the cyberdemon seriously needs hooves

I can understand sprint-sliding, akimbo guns and so forth in Wolf TNO, but if I were given a Doom game to create, i'd probably just make it straight up running around, sprinting with no stamina bar or accuracy deductions, and maybe some jumping. That TNO was going for a refuge in audacity by taking tones from a Tarantino movie made over-the-top things fit, yet this Doom looks like it's gonna be pretty damn serious besides the self-referencing, so not having over-the-top actions like TNO would fit more so long as it isn't modern shooter awkwardness.
I hope new DooM is not on idTech5. This trainwreck of engine must die already.
It will be on idTech, it is an id IP.
It will be on idTech, it is an id IP.
Then my hopes are for an actual optimization for AMD and medium tier pc's.
I'm hoping that if there's multiplayer there's coop.
the cyberdemon seriously needs hooves
Oh yeah, those bear feet don't fit.
Oh yeah, those bear feet don't fit.
Atleast it's still clearly a demon and not, you know COUGH DOOM MOVIE COUGH
