I feel like the Doom movie would've been fine if they'd actually stuck with Hell and demons. What made them change it anyway, backlash? Is there anything more Christian than actually killing demons and defeating Hell itself? :v:
Someone pointed this out in the Video thread

That looks like the bottom of one of the big doors in the original Doom
bloody hell it does
The new game better have some sort of giant hooved muscledemons running about bent on making your life hell

The Monster Designs and Computer UIs looked identical to Doom 3.
Well except the Pinky's stupid wheels.
Thinking back, they're were probably going for a wheelchair-bound teleporter attendant but more sciency. Probably should have gone with the mechanical legs thing instead.
Still, whilst they coulda done it a lot better, they also coulda done it a fair sight worse.
I wonder how the weapons are going to be styled in this new title.
If the weapons aren't default centered, I want the option.
sunder is literally one of the nicest wads ive seen

fun as fuck too, theres like 1k monsters on each map
and the majority have 4k
Idk why you guys are demanding centered viewmodel as a main thing. I understand the fact IT'S FUCKING DOOM!!!But still, just because it's Doom doesn't mean it needs to be with viewmodel centered. Yes, i hope it can be an option, easter egg, secret, even if it's possible to make it happend though the console commands but still, looking how iD made Wolfenstein, which had centered viewmodel, didn't had that. What i'm most concerned is: are they going to keep the old Doom vibe on this game? Can they make this game be and feel like it's actually a Doom game, instead of what Doom 3 made?
I'm hoping we'll get something as good as The New Order. I felt like that did a great job at being modern, but still staying true to its roots at the same time. I don't need Doom 1 or Doom 2 just ported over to idTech 5, I just need a good modern FPS that successfully adapts to the times while remembering what made the originals fun.
It's just a nostalgia thing, it'd be a nice call back to the originals. They reused the door sound and possibly door design so we can hope they give us a centered weapon option.
Why would anybody want centered weapon models aside from nostalgia reasons? The weapon models are shoved off to the side these days for a good reason.
would be fun if there was an option for having the guns centered though
[editline]11th June 2014[/editline]
kinda like how CS let you choose left or right handed guns
I'm wondering if this game will be more horror or action centric? I'm hoping for the latter.
Since Wolfenstein was such a solid oldschool reboot, I'm hoping they're going to do the same with DOOM.
I finally played Brutal Doom, and that is what I want Doom to be. Big guns, lots of enemies, lots of "rip and tear". I want more than 3 enemies per room, I want demons crawling at me from everywhere to mow down, and I nice splattery mess to admire when I'm done.
Also I want an SDK, that is easy to use. Imagine if they made this game good, with mod support, with an SDK.
I'm surprised there's been no team to make a new Doom game. Obviously not stealing assets, but retaining all the core ideas but doing it how they want what with all the complaints on Doom 3.

wasnt there a lot of that at higher difficulties?
wasnt there a lot of that at higher difficulties?
I'm pretty sure the Ultra-violence setting had much more than that.

It was an intentional poke at newer games. I mean to say I want lots of enemies.

i think the nightmare difficulty in bfg had upwards of 20-25 in a space

UV and nightmare both have the same amount of enemies, them respawning after a while just makes it seem like a lot more.
honestly I completely agree about how there should be a centered option for the guns, mainly because having fucking gun model position and size options should be a fucking standard for FPS games in my opinion and it INFURIATES me whenever a game gives me huge-ass models I can't change.
I went and played Quake 4 for a tiny bit for the first time recently and nearly screamed in utter joy when I learned that you can actually change the view model position. I can't believe people put up with the recent trend of having the gun model take 50% of the screen. It's incredibly annoying.
Again, going back to what I would do if I were a game developer, if I were in charge of some sort of animation department for an FPS game I would mandate it to all employees that you must keep the freakin gun animations at least so and so amount of pixels away from the crosshair and if it ever crosses over we're redoing the animation until it fits the quota. That's how much I hate it when this occurs.
Giant gun models are literally there to occlude the screen so performance increases. The first sign of a poorly optimized engine or running on console hardware is giant viewmodels.
I'd hope for either no plot or an excuse plot and straight up shooting things to death, but that's impossible in today's cinematic experiences
I wouldn't mind an in-depth plot with some backstory, if they did something like Unreal and kept it as optional logs you could find through exploration, IE have it completely ignorable if you don't care.

Nightmare should really respawn ammo pickups as well as enemies in my opinion. Sometimes you simply don't have the firepower to make it through a room before enemies start respawning. And by that time you're getting low on ammo so you're going to die which is even worse since you respawning will leave you nothing to fight with.

You already get double the ammunition from picking it up, and you pretty much should be running like hell to not receive too much damage from those enemies before they take away all the armour and health you have.
It was also meant to be damn hard difficulty as there is even a warning to those wanting to try it.

The way I see it, it should have a plot but the player is not involved.
Like you're running around causing hell to break loose and you might stumble across a recording much like System shock or doom 3 and that'll provide some exposition to the situation, or there might be a flashback to just before all hell broke loose and it'll show you how shit started to hit the fan.
Perhaps catching glances at other people trying their best to survive the onslaught, only to come round the corner and find them dead having conveniently dropped their shotgun.
The player however? Your plot is "We lost contact with mars base, Go sort it out!"

Double ammunition means nothing when you can't run your way through a room packed with demons and you have to fight but you can't kill them fast enough to get through successfully. There's several places that happens. By having ammo respawn it means there's less chance of getting yourself killed simply through bad luck.
Nightmare mode's basically a joke 'super difficult' mode. The warning's there to say that you're probably not going to beat the game on it, so it really shouldn't be regarded as a legitimate difficulty factor. You want legitimate, Ultra-Violence is the definitive difficulty for the old games.
You don't seem to understand how you play on nightmare
Or you can't read and missed the part where I explained there are places that you can't simply run through.
