I dunno how many people go to Quakecon on a yearly basis, but I know quite a few probably went this year due to the new DOOM. If overall there's very little revealed, not even proper gameplay, people are going to be piiiiissed.
Before RPS went down there was an update that they were getting details on the game. It's pretty vague as to what those details could be, but at least it wasn't just another teaser. Hopefully the multiplayer beta is getting mentioned in there somewhere.

Maybe the game's still not all that presentable?
Fuckin cray, dudes. It looks like there is a mechanic for ending a boss battle by going up to him and doing a fatality move. #doom4
well, most of the tweets, besides the art design being Doom 3-esque, were interesting, but I really fucking hope that's optional [editline]17th July 2014[/editline] So as far as I can tell from those tweets, it's gonna be close-quarters and Doom 3-ish, but with high intensity combat, more gore than ever before (sawing demons in half with a chainsaw, blowing them apart with the shotgun), and other things. Like being able to kick enemies, either like Bulletstorm or like F.E.A.R., and do Brutal Doom-esque fatalities on boss enemies or something like that.
Check PC Gamer's twitter. They tweeted pretty much everything. It sounds pretty awesome.
This is detail for the sake of detail. It can still add to the map, and at least it looks nice now, but is it really needed? (This is Gothic 99, so they were aiming for that.) [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/WZcIba.jpg[/t]
Reminds me of Quake. God, I miss that
I heard from somebody who was at QC that there's no reloading in Doom (4)
No need to reload? Now THAT'S more like it, if that actually is how they handle it.
Also said infighting is back too
It's a lot of details revealed gameplay-wise, all things considered. The hellknight/baron types apparently can chase after you even if you climb around, and bat away rockets you shoot at them. The Revenants now have fucking jetpacks. More emphasis on verticality with double jumps and some slight parkour, and the shotgun had an alt-fire for charging multiple shells up. You get a different gory death animation depending on what kills you, there's optional fatalities you can do to weakened enemies for health bonuses, enemies can be sawed or blown apart and they'll even apparently cower in fear if you go at them with the chainsaw. Music and sound supposedly reminiscent of Quake 1 and Doom 64.

I'm a little worried it's going to go too far in the other direction after all the Doom 3 hate. Doom 3 needed to be more shooty, but I don't want a mindless Brutal Doom game either. But I'll wait till I can actually see some gameplay first before I decide anything.
Serious question: Why don't you want that?
Can someone tell me what FP's post limit is so I can write up a new OP beforehand that isn't shit? [editline].[/editline] Never mind, still have a ways to go. I'll finally write up a new OP for you guys.

Doom shouldn't be a cinematic "Half-Life" style game, that is not what made Doom great. Going back to their roots is the best thing for the franchise.
I feel like Wolfenstein had a really good balance between old school and modern gameplay. The description just makes it sound like it went way more in the old school direction. But descriptions are pretty subjective; it still sounds good to me, I just want it to be able to sell well too. It's hard to convey what exactly seems off, something just makes me uneasy about it. We just need to see the gameplay for ourselves.

Focusing a Doom around story would be a bad thing, as well as taking up way too much time on long-winded cutscenes. I actually think the Half-Life 1 solution wouldn't be a bad idea; slower-paced portions where you try to figure out where to go or what the hell's going down, followed by quite a lot of action with puzzles or some downtime interspersed. That's what this seems to be going for from the info we know so far.
Anyone wanna help out and do a banner by chance? I would but I don't have the skills to do a decent one.
Anyone wanna help out and do a banner by chance? I would but I have no clue how to do so.
A banner of the old logo or the new?
Serious question: Why don't you want that?
Not everyone likes overly obnoxious gore/death sequences. That's not what Doom is/was about.
A banner of the old logo or the new?
Whichever one you'd like. Thanks a ton for offering.

Doom 3 tried to recreate the UAC in HL1 fashion and it failed, Doom 3 and the Doom movie are two major shit stains on the franchise. I don't think I want another franchise copying elements from another franchise again (Tomb Raider 2013 had no resemblance of a TR game), there's nothing wrong with old school gameplay. There are games out there for people who want a cinematic experience like Bioshock and Uncharted, Doom isn't that franchise.
Not everyone likes overly obnoxious gore/death sequences. That's not what Doom is/was about.
But RIP AND TEAR
Not everyone likes overly obnoxious gore/death sequences. That's not what Doom is/was about.
Kinda funny because before BD Doom was considered to be extremely gory. The gore was certainly more detailed and grotesque in its sprites than say, the cartoony chunks of gore you saw in Quake games (probably also due to the low-poly nature of them up until Q3) even if it does look cartoony itself I mean unlike Quake or even Doom 3, in Doom 1/2 berserk punches/direct rockets/BFG shots literally tear enemies apart. I mean seriously, look at that enemy screen in Doom 2 at the end when you kill enemies. Most of their standard death animations involve the demons ripping apart from the inside.
Doom's concept is great, it just needed some more complexity, in my opinion. Adding some Half Life style stuff isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm okay with some basic puzzles, and having exploration as both HL and Doom had. Doom 3 just needed more action and less jump scares; ideally we'd have another Doom 64, which I feel had the best blend of action and creepy ambiance.
Whichever one you'd like. I used a font word generator for the Megathread bit, but that turned out a bit more blurry in the edges than I wanted. Egh, I noticed that in my attempts to cut the bulk of the metal around the letters, I flubbed up and rounded them a little too much here and there.

There's really no need to turn it into bloody screaming murder each time you kill one thing. That's not the kind of gore they were trying to shoot for. That's just going overboard and that's making it all about the GORE instead of the other things that made Doom great.
I wish they'd just shown us all the gameplay. That would've answered way more questions than having to hear someone's description of it, which is then up to our own interpretation. I think it'll probably be a good game, I'm just wary of getting too hyped yet.

Could you do a version of that saying V2 instead of V3 as well? I intend on re-writing the current OP.
Doom's concept is great, it just needed some more complexity, in my opinion.
It had plenty of complexity though? A large variety of weapons and enemies, large and fairly non-linear levels, what else does it actually really need?
