I was messing around in the Doom in Hexen format and... [t]http://i.imgur.com/24SOa00.png[/t] I made a huge doomguy. That means he has huge guts.
RIP AND TEAR [editline]13th August 2014[/editline] I wish there was two of me so I could work on Doom while working on Blood. Would you guys be okay if I took a small break from Doom and started posting the work I'm doing for Blood? (Which will work in ZDoom) I know that's weird to ask the Doom thread, but; lets be honest. Old School Shooters ain't got their own threads.
Sure, go ahead. Blood is pretty damn good too.

So, seeing the positive reactions to the Blood project, I figure I should ask, the flare pistol is pretty bitchin, and the original Blood developers had intended to make alternative ammo for it and other guns. Any kind of ammo or flares, you guys want to see? I'd like to add shotgun shells for it and perhaps explosive flares. [editline]13th August 2014[/editline]
Image
That is so fucking cute
dunno how easy it'd be, but perhaps some sort of ultrabright distraction flare?
I actually like that, enemies could be in a "pain" state that doesn't damage them, perhaps some enemies might have a violent reaction to them as well, and it would be great for dark areas. Thanks, its funny that the idea of a brighter flare just skipped my mind, but I really do appreciate it.
Maybe an improved flare that covers the ground in fire where it hits?
Maybe an improved flare that covers the ground in fire where it hits?
I like that, hmm. Makes me wonder if any of these flares would be good combined :v:
I like that, hmm. Makes me wonder if any of these flares would be good combined :v:
explosive shot flares
explosive shot flares
Hmmm, combining every idea we've had into one flare would give us explosive-sticky-ultrabright-incendiary flares. Might be a bit overkill but that might be badass. We'll see where all these ideas go, I love the stuff you guys come up with, the issue becomes implementing it in the game in a way that isn't clunky (cycling through tons of ammo types)
I love it when I can do lazy solutions. Instead of adding an offset to a function that gets the sector a player is in when there's a grid of them, I decided to move the entire map so that the top left of the grid is at 0,0. Yay me.

Are there any really artsy or puzzle-based Doom wads?
Did this quick photoshop, gonna polish it up later. I don't know if the creator will ever draw the Caco Demon but I just loved how cute the Pain Elemental and Lost Souls were, I couldn't resist. Cleaned it up, removed the stubs cause I can't get them to work right, right now.
You should remove the arms.
You should remove the arms.
Thought about it, though I felt they added an anthropomorphic cuteness to it, despite the Cacodemon not having them. I'll try it out though sometime!
What would you guys say it's the best way to enjoy the vanilla Doom 1&2 experience? The Steam versions?
What would you guys say it's the best way to enjoy the vanilla Doom 1&2 experience? The Steam versions?
Up to you really, depends on how hardcore your vanilla must be http://www.chocolate-doom.org/wiki/index.php/Chocolate_Doom will serve you much better http://devbuilds.drdteam.org/gzdoom/gzdoom-G1.9pre-790-gc30cfb3.7z GZDoom and Zdoom are pretty much number 1 for modding and such, I like using GZDoom even while playing regular Doom because so many nice things are in it like true color support, and the ability to look up and down without shearing/view warp.
Always save when mapping (or doing anything really). Have a fucking timer or something to remind you that. Doom builder nor GZDoom builder have autosave. Get a bloody sticky note on the monitor with SAVE written on it. Ctrl+S every 15 minutes or even 10 minutes or write a program to do it for you.

It's become a tic, I don't even think about it anymore.
I save every time I do anything. Not just once either, I spam ctrl+s maybe 5 times to make sure that I actually saved.
What would you guys say it's the best way to enjoy the vanilla Doom 1&2 experience? The Steam versions?
Chocolate Doom, but honestly I'd just use GZDoom/ZDoom and disable the new functions (such as jumping and crouching)

Is there any way to play blood with proper mouse aiming?
Is there any way to play blood with proper mouse aiming?
Turn on the Mouse Aiming, the key-bind can be set from the controls ingame. Its default to either U or I. Use Invert Mouse to have a proper Aiming Up and Down system (the default is technically invert to what is normal now)
Is there any way to play blood with proper mouse aiming?
Just enabling the game's native mouse aiming won't be sufficient as the Build engine's inherent mouse filtering will severely impact all aiming movement. You should also use bMouse 0.6, a program that disables the filtering. You can download it here: http://swisscm.duke4.net/ (Yes, that's the real site. Go to the downloads page.)
