It's compatible with vanilla wads.
It's always fun to see systems that never got game ports get homebrewed source ports like these. Comparing it to Doom 64 or the PSX version of Doom makes me wonder what'd of happened back in the day if they'd done something this accurate and released it.
holy crap gmota is fun
Good job kegan, seriously. I just lost an hour to it after just saying "Eh, I'll try out a few levels.." *one and a half episodes later*

IIRC the PSX port is actually quite capable it's just that Williams opted to just use the Jaguar mapset for Doom 1 and the maps for Doom II are much more accurate to the PC version.
I never actually liked the PSX version of Doom. They went a little overboard with the dynamic lighting, the maze in Command Control was almost impossible.

While I do agree the lighting could of been better, I prefer the sound design in the PSX. It feels a lot more atmospheric imo
Found artwork that was going to be used for Doom II, created by Julie Bell but was replaced for art made by Gerald Brom because the cyberdemon didn't look right.

I like a lot of the changes the PSX port did, some of the simplified map designs or ditching of more complicated maps did make things less of a major strain. I also didn't mind the sound design at all. It's just that on one hand, the most 'accurate' port of Doom to home consoles the generation previous was the SNES version. The PSX version certainly had its own twists and approaches to make it unique, but if there was a genuinely and relatively accurate Doom experience on the N64, I think it would've had a healthy competition between accuracy and preference at the time. Instead, Doom 64, which wasn't even originally meant to be a Doom game, was released and played off more like a sequel to the PSX version of Doom.

I'm quite glad we got the other artwork. :v:

If an official port was made, it would of probably of been based on the Jaguar version like the other console ports of the time.

I remember looking at all sorts of fan-made DOOM content back in the day. Newgrounds in particular.
Here's to hoping DOOM 4 is as moddable as DOOM/2 or it isn't going to last
I played around with custom classes/actors and made the two allies in Action Doom 2 playable.

Beat Plutonia (finally).
After 20 years of playing Doom, Arch-viles still scare the shit out of me when I am confronted by one.
Does anyone recommend any good wads to play through now? I feel like playing more Doom after beating both TNT and Plutonia.

Try UAC Labs.

Hellbound is pretty bad actually unless you love not being able to see where you're going half the time and constant hell baron/knight mobs up the ass
[editline]20th August 2014[/editline]
But it has pretty architecture so you could always just play it with Russian Overkill and blast through the monster crowds

Finally got V0.9.3 up. Lots of polishing and some new shit too!
V.0.9.3 and there still is no option to disable the SNES music >:C
Everything else, however, is perfect.

in my defense I've swapped out a lot of the tracks for more fitting tunes for Blaz.
I'll look into putting an option in the menus or something to toggle character tunes though.

I have to admit I did like the FFMQ boss music.
For some reason, in GMOTA 0.9.3, I can't seem to hit cacodemons that are above my head with the unpowered sword, but if I throw the sword and opt for the fists, I can freely smash their faces in. It's really disconcerting, honestly, but with the ability to throw the sword, its pretty easy to forget about.
The shining knight mode is freaking awesome by the way, fantastic "panic-button" style weapon. I also love the fact that you got rid of the range limit on the lance, its pretty good weapon now. I have no real complaints with this version other than the weirdness with the sword.
Hey Kegan, any possibility of future compatibility patches for Hexen and Heretic with GMOTA? They sorta work but you'll never see any different weapon powerups. (And I lost my sword at one point through a teleport?)
I currently don't have any plans for heretic or hexen compatibility patches. Mainly because there's so little maps for those two games. We'll see what happens in the future though.
Now when you say you lost the sword after hitting a teleporter, you're talking about doom right?

Now I got a lot on my plate but...
