Update 10
Hey again! We just hit $70,000, so thanks again to everyone that bumped up their pledge, shared the project offline and online, and kept pushing us forward.
If you're a new backer, thanks for joining on and showing your support! Also, thanks to those that came out and had fun with me on Reddit this week. I pretty much completely burned out my voice in the process but it was pretty entertaining.
Upcoming Updates
I figured that we're not doing the best job of explaining what we're doing right now and what's coming up next, so here's what's up. For the most part there's only the three of us handling interviews, emails, social media, PR, videos, etc, and we've been spending every second of every day getting the word out to press and fans of Nitronic Rush via email and social networking.
It's helped a bit, but it seems much less effective than any of you personally contacting press about your excitement over the game or sharing it with friends. For example, our top referrers have been Facebook, Reddit, Nitronic-Rush.com, Google, and Twitter, so we've realized that it's been a really socially-driven event thus far.

Anyways, we have several videos in development now and we'll be continually releasing them as soon as humanly possible . One of them is a new gameplay video showing the parkour/exploration elements of the game and some other cool surprises (teaser screenshot above). We're also doing a few live action videos which should be fun. I'll post them as soon as we have them uploaded.
We'll be posting something at least once a day to get as much sharable content out as possible, on top of continually reaching out to everyone. The best thing you can do is to keep sharing the new content with your friends, and send it to press who you think would be interested in it. For example...
New Music!
This is the first concept music piece I did for Distance a few months back, mostly to help establish the tone and emotion for the game. The city is dark and dystopian, and long before we had concept art to show what it would visually look like I wanted to see what it felt like musically.
SoundCloud: Momenta (Work in Progress)
I've been really drawn to atmospheric music ever since working on Solstice and The Fourth Wall, so I wanted to try bringing in some of those feelings of mystery into Distance. As usual let me know what you think!
TotalBiscuit
This is mentioned a bunch so I want to bring it up. We have talked with TotalBiscuit, but unfortunately he will not be doing interviews anymore outside of a WTF Is...? episode, which requires a significant amount gameplay footage from a playable build. We worked for a while on getting the game to the point where it would meet his standards, but it was taking too long.
We decided that it would just be better to focus that effort into other things like a new gameplay video and continual outreach to other press. We will however recommend the game for his new show "Content Patch", and I recommend you do the same!
Going Forward
I do believe that where there's a will there's a way, and we will do what it takes for this Kickstarter to succeed, not only because we're intensely passionate about the project but because you are too! Thanks for the continual ideas, suggestions, and outreach. Up to the last nanosecond, we're not giving up and we'll keep pushing.
- Jordan

Update 11
Hi again!
We're now 6 days away from the end, and excitement has been continuously building. We've had a great past couple days, largely due to all of your outreach efforts, so thanks again for keeping the fire alive! Sorry for not posting this earlier, as Jordan hadn't slept in 2 days to finish the video and we were held up by a last minute chance to use a special vehicle for our next in-person video!
Pre-Alpha Gameplay #2: Parkour Action
We just released the latest gameplay trailer for Distance to show off the parkour, platforming-like elements of the car, as well as a new obstacle we're experimenting with.
You can UPVOTE Reddit posts here (thanks DarthSatoris, Sharrage): http://bit.ly/RM5Xxa, http://bit.ly/PMBqzJ which will help a lot to keep things pushing through the weekend.
More music
You can listen to the music used in the latest trailer, or download it in MP3 or FLAC (right click and "Save Link As..."):
SoundCloud: DISTANCE: Machine 17
Download: MP3 | FLAC
Since the music is FREE, make sure to share it with anyone you think would enjoy it!
Dev diary
We just hit $80,000, which helps a lot in preparation for intense final countdown. As I mentioned earlier, Kyle, Jason, and couple friends helped to record the next video update today. We had a unique opportunity to use a special vehicle for the video, so we can't wait to see what you think of it. You can see a screenshot of what we have so far here:
We haven't mentioned Steam Greenlight recently since we started to see confused comments about whether the campaign was about voting or backing the project. In any case, we're still moving up (currently #41) and a few people let us know that getting more votes helps the game to pop up in more people's queues. If you haven't already, please give Distance a "Yes" here:
Greenlight: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=103111305
We had some luck with press as well over the past couple days, which also helped a bit to keep the momentum up. Some interviews we did were in the mix as well, so check them out to learn more about thoughts on Distance and going forward in the racing genre. Also, if you see a press article pop up this week, make sure to share and post a comment on the page. It helps a lot to show excitement about the game and show writers that we there's interest in articles about Distance.

Seems like they're gonna make it, funding is steady right now and there's usually a huge spike of backers near the end.
I don't think they're going to make it. :c
Someone pledged 10k for the fulltilt arcade machine.
It is now at 97k of 125k. Might make it if more people pledge.
Someone pledged 10k for the fulltilt arcade machine.

I don't get the point of super exorbitant bonuses like that. Like, won't the machine probably cost a few thousand to build? It's not really $10000 towards game development if you're going to spend half of it on the bonus.
I never though of that
Depends. Maybe they have Xin Chuang to make one for a measly $100. :v:
They could make it if it got some more media attention.
Guys, guys, back this. Almost there.
I know I'm late with this one, but whatever
Update 12
Hi everyone!
The last couple days have been incredible. We had our 2nd best day ever in backers yesterday, and thanks to a $10,000 backer (we get to make the arcade cabinet!) it was our best day of progress yet. Thanks to all the new backers for joining on and supporting our team and thanks to everyone who've been helping us to get more visible on Reddit, 4chan, forums, and social media everywhere.
We've also recognized that a good number of you bumped up your pledges recently which we greatly appreciate, it helps all of us get that much closer to our goal and dreams. Since it's coming down to the wire here on Kickstarter we decided to do a video update this time to better explain what we've been up to and what's to come over the next few days. It brings a bit of the cheese but it should be fun to watch so please enjoy!

New digital-only tiers!
Many of you have requested that we add proper digital only tiers so we're happy to say that we listened and we just put them up! There is now a $55 tier for the single alpha access where you'll get everything at the $35 tier plus the alpha. There is also now a $75 tier for the double alpha access where you'll get everything at the $50 plus 2 copies of the alpha! If you've already pledged for something below those tiers remember that you can easily bump up your pledge by clicking the blue "Manage Your Pledge" button on Distance's Kickstarter page.
Clarifications
We just wanted to clarify the physical box tiers at the $150 and $250 levels. In both tiers you'll be getting everything in the $85 tier which includes two digital copies of the game (at alpha and beyond) plus you'll get another final release copy of the game on the actual physical DVD. We had a few questions about how that would work so hopefully this clears that up.
Happy Birthday to Nitronic Rush!

Yesterday marked the 1 year anniversary since we released Nitronic Rush, which many of you were there for and may remember the madness of that night. It's been quite the year for us since then, and it should be interesting to see what we'll be able to do with Distance over the next year!

Reaching out

While we've had some good luck with press so far (better than many Kickstarters), getting some more press for all of the new content we've released would be incredibly helpful before the end. With that said, we want to encourage you to share every single thing we've released (music, videos, screenshots, etc.) and reach out to your favorite gaming news sites. Be respectful and say whatever you'd like to say about the project. Why are you excited about it? Why did you personally back it? What's the most interesting part?
We also want to continue to encourage you to share it with everyone you can on forums, blogs, YouTube, and social media sites. Here are some links to help you with that:

Let's keep pushing it to the end!

Was touch and go up until about 6 days ago, all of a sudden - 80,000 - then 100,000 then woah omg this is so close.
It's pretty close, I hope it continues at this rate.
Update 13
OVER $121,000!!!
Wow, we made it over $121k already today everyone! Honestly, the past couple days have been completely surreal for us. We’re doing our best to stay focused and on task, but watching the Kickstarter page is just too much fun right now! Thanks to all the new backers that have joined us, and welcome aboard! After announcing the new tiers yesterday we noticed that many of you bumped up your pledges. We just wanted to let you know that we greatly appreciate it!

We were actually planning on releasing a new video today, but with the intensely rapid progress lately we've had to alter our plans. That video should now be prepared for tomorrow with some exciting announcements.

Final Countdown Live Stream
We’re going to be doing a live stream of the last few hours of our Kickstarter on Friday. Join us for the tears or cheers of excitement in those final few hours, it should be fun! More info will coming soon but we just wanted to give you a heads up that it'll be on Friday afternoon (ending at 7pm PST).
Making it to the Finish Line
We're still emailing and reaching out to as many people as we possible to make it to the goal (and hopefully past), and very clearly tons of you have been doing the same! It's been mind-blowing to see the continual wave of tweets, Facebook shares, forum posts, blog posts, press articles (from sites that you contacted), YouTube videos, and helpful suggestions/tips you've been sending our way. The three of us can barely keep up with it all, and we're beyond excited that we have a chance to reach the end.
Special Thanks to DigiPen
DigiPen has been incredible to us, not only by providing an incredible education but also by helping out immensely during this Kickstarter. Some of our friends at the school have really shown their passion by placing up two large posters in obvious places in the school to further promote our Kickstarter. Yesterday we stopped by to check them out for ourselves and they look great. Honestly, we can’t thank all of our DigiPen friends enough for all of their help and support during this whole thing!

Update 14
Wow, we can't believe that we get to say this, but with 2 days to go we've hit our goal of $125k and we're now over $132k!! Honestly it’s incredible for us, just last week we weren't sure if we were even going to make and now we’re doing our best to keep up with everything and release some stretch goals!
This isn't just a win for our team alone though, this is a win for all of us. Not only are you allowing us to make the game of our dreams, you're enabling a brand new studio to be fully independent right out of the gate and have complete creative control over our IP. It's unbelievable, and by backing, spreading the word, and fighting until now, you've made our dreams come true. Now we'll have to thank you by making the best game we possibly can! Here's a quick video we just put together to talk about everything:

Stretch Goals
As many of you have noticed, there's now a stretch goal image on the Kickstarter front page! We've come up with a few goals to push for in these final couple days, and first up is a full Replay and Spectator Mode. While we already planned on supporting ghost replays on the level Nitronic Rush supported, this system would allow you to have:
Loading/saving of replays
Many different camera angles including cinematic modes
Free camera
Fast forward/rewind/play/pause
Slow motion

PayPal Support
Throughout this campaign many asked for PayPal support, so after much work Jordan finally got it up today! If you know anyone who wants to back Distance but needs PayPal please let them know that they have this option now. If you've already backed via Kickstarter, please don't switch over to PayPal if at all possible since that might risk lowering our total funds raised on Kickstarter. Also note that the PayPal funds do count towards the stretch goals.
You can use the PayPal site we've set up here: survivethedistance.com/paypal.
Live Stream
We're going to be doing a live stream of the finale of this Kickstarter on Friday, Nov 16th, at 4pm - 7pm PST / 7pm - 10pm EST / 12am - 3am GMT, to celebrate it with everyone! At that time stream.refractstudios.com will redirect to the live stream. It should be fun and feel free to join us for those final moments!

Update 15 - 24 hours to go
With less than 24 hours to go, we're in the final stretch for Distance's Kickstarter! This marks the last chance ever that you'll be able to access the backer-only vehicle, as well as the limited edition t-shirt, poster, and physical box.

At the time of writing, we're at 3,799 backers on Kickstarter at $139,425, and 50 backers on PayPal at $1,265.78. All together that puts us at $140,690.78 as we near the Replay/Spectator Modes Stretch Goal!
We're sorry to those that had to deal with Amazon Payments being down last night. As far as we know everything's working again, so if you want to increase your pledge feel free to go for it! The next 24 hours will be your last chance to do so!
Steam Greenlight
Right now we're sitting at #37 on Steam Greenlight, and getting Greenlit generally requires us to be in the top 10. If you're excited to see this game come to Steam, please make sure to vote "Yes" on our Greenlight page to bump Distance up. The earlier we can get Greenlit by Steam, the earlier we can look into integrating Steam features like achievements, Steamworks support, and especially use Steam for the Alpha/Beta!
Vote "Yes" on Greenlight: bit.ly/DistanceSteam
Tomorrow's Livestream
As mentioned yesterday, we're going to be live streaming the final exciting hours of the Kickstarter on tomorrow (Friday, Nov 16th), at 4-7pm PST / 7-10pm EST / 12-3am GMT! Make to swing by and say hello!

New Concept Work
Chin Fong (the artist behind most of our concept images) has been working on a few sweet concepts that show new world pieces that we'll be experimenting with. This first one is a work-in-progress piece that shows some ideas for interesting track pieces. It's also what we borrowed from for the above image.

He also did some smaller sketches which show some early ideas for visual direction.

As mentioned on the Kickstarter front page, you can see more of his work on his blog at: http://chinfongart.blogspot.com. He recently posted more of his environment work in Halo 4, which is pretty breathtaking to say the least.
Press Round Up
We've been really happy to celebrate the success of the Kickstarter with everyone, and press have been jumping in on the action as well!

They reached $154k, they will now do the first set of stretch goals.
Another person donated 10k, they now will make 2 of the arcade machines.
Only 2 hours left.
Update 16
With the aid of a $10,000 backer (another arcade cabinet!), we just blew past our first stretch goal of $150k! That means that we'll now be including full Replay/Spectate modes with all of the fancy features listed in Update #14!
On top of that, we're already at $154,333 on Kickstarter and $1,786 on PayPal, putting us at $156,119 all together!
Stretch Goal #2: Random Track Generation

One thing that was experimented with in Nitronic Rush was random track generation, where at the click of a button a completely fresh track would be created each time. Obstacles, ramps, road pieces, environment models, etc. would be placed in a unique way that makes sense for the progression of the track. Unfortunately it never shipped with the game due to time constraints to finish everything, but we want to expand on that idea in Distance!
If we reach $165,000 by the end of the time limit today, the Random Track Generation Mode would allow you to create a vast number of unique tracks after providing a few parameters to tweak the overall type of track being generated. You can share specific seeds with your friends as well so that they can play tracks that you discovered!
Increasing your pledge also helps to reach the goal, so remember that this will be your last chance to do so!
PayPal Time Limit
Since we were only able to allow PayPal users a couple days to get their pledges in, we'll be extending the time limit for PayPal for 3 days after the campaign until 7pm PST on Monday, November 19th.
Since it won't be up for long make sure to get those pledges in ASAP. Also, pledges made after the Kickstarter goal unfortunately won't be counting towards stretch goals, so do your best to make sure those get in in today!
PayPal link: bit.ly/DistancePayPal
Another reminder for today's Live Stream
In a few hours we'll be streaming the last few hours of the campaign from 4-7pm PST / 7-10pm EST / 12-3am GMT! We'll be doing some fun events, so come check it out then and watch to see if we hit stretch goal #2!
Live steam link: stream.refractstudios.com
Thanks again for continuing to push forward, we can't wait to see what happens in the final hours!
- Jordan, Kyle, Jason
Their new stretch goal is one in which the user can have tracks randomly generated, which I think is a really cool idea so I hope this gets done.
In order for them to do it, they need to get to $165k, and right now they are at $158k.
However, even though the kickstarter will be done in 2 hours, they are keeping the paypal pledges up for 3 more days, which will count towards the stretch goal.
Currently, their paypal pledges are at $1,996 , so the grand total is $160,705 of $165,000
They met their second stretch goal, random level generation will be in the end product.
Edit:
Hell yeah, 5xKarmah Combo

From what I understand from the video, they basically have this massive kickass track that they are working on right now, and it's sicknasty
More information can be found on the kickstarter page under the updates section, and on their forum.
Currently, they are trying to get greenlit and are number 2 so far, which is pretty good but they still need more votes apparently.
The Alpha is currently out!
If any of you backed in the tier with alpha access, check your email! You will have to claim your key, and you can get it on steam!
I backed for beta access (2 copies tier) and got the alpha key. Not complaining, but use the Forum Access key on steam and you get it.
Downloading as we speak omfg so hyped
Man, this game is so much fun.
