Condemned 2 is good too, but more action oriented. Still an amazing game, even if a little weirder than the original. [sp]Shouting at enemies so hard they explode?[/sp]

I liked Condemned 2 cuz I never really played Condemned 1 and it was super spooky for me.
Fucking [sp]manikins[/sp]

The scariest part of that game for me was the [sp]bear[/sp]. I wish someone would make a game entirely based on that one section.
I bought FEAR + Expansions during the sale and it's nowhere as scary as I remember it to be.
The combat is great, but I was more annoyed as the *2spooky* parts than anything else.
After a while you can just tell when the next cryptic vision is going to occur, especially when you see a long hallway.
Other than that the game is pretty damn great.
Also, Alma is a bipolar bitch. Sometimes she wants to kill you, sometimes she wants to help you.
[editline]29th June 2014[/editline]
Also, the story makes zero sense.
[editline]29th June 2014[/editline]
And that one fat dude is just an annoying cunt, how has he able to survive a gunshot and a nuke in Extraction?
He felt super out of place as a stereotypical comic relief.
The expansions to F.E.A.R. aren't cannon, so i would disregard the story, even if the gameplay is fun.
Just got finished with among the sleep and now I'm depressed as fuck.
Got Among the Sleep.
I would not recommend anyone buy this for full price. Shit is too damn short and the spookiness is very unimaginative. Standard scary, albeit low poly monster that spookifies your screen if you look at it with wavy lines and extremely loud static noises. You know the drill. Ending, without getting too spoilery [sp]went all 2deep and artsy. It works for some, not for others. Me personally it was a very "try-hard" turn off that left a bad taste in my mouth after I was done.[/sp]
Run time was measured in minutes. You can explore but there isn't much, if anything to find that isn't puzzle related.

Personally I disagree and think it did a pretty damn good job of making a horror game from the perspective of a two year old. BUT, different spooks for different kooks, so I guess it's different for everyone. Any recommendations for horror games on the cheap?
anyone here play damned?
if so, has it gotten any better in the last few patches? i haven't played in a few months.
Oh yeah Damned is a really cool little indie game.
It just got a big patch recently that added a new monster and a fear system (ehh). I haven't played the patch yet, I was waiting for my brother to co-op.
But yes Damned is probably the closest you can get to having a genuinely scary co-op game.
[editline]30th June 2014[/editline]
It's still in alpha or beta or something but I would recommend horror fans take a look at it, it's a neat little gem. It's you and 1-3 other players trying to escape from a level by finding keys and combinations and items while there are 1-2 player controlled monsters. Humans have no weapons and the monsters are pretty creatively designed.
The best monster has you in ghost mode most of the time where you can't see the survivors but you can hear some of the things they do and they can set off sound traps that you set up to let you know where they are, then you can transform into physical mode for a brief time and see where they are or kill them.

Clock Tower has some pretty scary games. The one on the PS1 was good.

My feelings exactly. Among the Sleep had so much potential because of it's solid concept, which isn't taken advantage of! Think of all the scary and disturbing things you could do with nightmares, it's a near limitless source of horror. It's a real shame the developers chose to do your standard "scary" game with cheap jumpscares and extremely unimaginative creature and level design. It could have been something great.
I think a game worth adding to the thread is Doom 64, that game is fucking terrifying.

I've owned Damned for like a year or something now but I'm waiting until it's released to actually play it.
I know Ghost Forest relies on Jump Scares but holy fuck that Ringu Ghost is just unfair

It was a great game until I got stuck on a scene where you sit behind a truck with a gun and shoot. I got killed very quickly around 40 times before I just quit. Never touched it since.
I don't know about you guys, but what I find really unnerving is when the monster twitches their head uncontrollably.
Especially the dudes from Afraid of Monsters DC.

I know you outlined it, but man if I'm tired of Ghoul's Forest being the hotbutton "spooky" mod for Doom. It's what PewPewDie is to Let's Plays. There are a vast number of other Doom mods (wads) that host a wide variety of other spook factors, and some even avoid jump scares all together.
I posted one here before, but here's another: Happy Time Circus II. There's a I, but it's not as detailed (nor 2+ hours long) as II is. It's an extremely long, eerie romp that can get a bit switch-hunty near the end, but it's the only horror game (mod) I've ever played that's used clowns as the trope.

Valtiel from Silent Hill 3 subtly used this to amazingly creepy effect. and that was way cooler than when Downpour did it for the regular enemies because he was also doing really macabre and blatantly symbolic stuff as well as being a twitchy skin-man, whereas the Downpour guys just looked incredibly stupid in every way

The Twitchers from Dead Space
Fuck those guys
Whilst not strictly a horror game, there were some moments for me in the earlier Half-Life games that made me nope out when I was younger. The original had a bit in the lab where you saw the first Alien Grunt, and I was too scared to push that button and run through the door.
Opposing Force had a similar bit where you go down into these tunnels, and seeing the skeleton leaning by the entrance I was convinced there was some sort of horrific spider-beast there. After going back it turned out the damn things were easy.
The first AVP game, played it when I was like 10. I actually panicked as a marine and shot everywhere as I heard a Predator nearby. Replaying the same bit nowadays, I feel dumb for even acting like that, but hell, I was 10ish back then
Otherwise, Amnesia and Outlast made me panic a bit too in several parts.
Darkwood is early access. It's not bad, and I can definitely see this going somewhere.
It's halloween, should probably resurrect this thread. What have you all been playing?

Decided to man up and play Silent Hill 2.
What the fuck this game

It's one of the best stories in a survival horror game ever.
try the paranoia, insomnia and hypnophobia levels for Garry's Mod or Half-Life
Shit is spooky, it's like walking into an MC Escher drawing.
[sp]I scare easily but it still terrified me[/sp]
They Hunger isn't particularly poop your pants scary but I seriously recommend it for anyone looking to go through a very well made half life mod.
It's one of the best stories in a survival horror game ever.
I'm really enjoying it but at the same time what the fuck.
Its like the first game I've played that's actually scary because of how well designed the atmosphere is and not jump scares.
I played Cry of Fear while I was going through a depression. Not the best of ideas. :v: Can be fairly unsettling at times though.
I was planning on playing Siren with PSXC2 or whatever that PS2 emulator's name is.
Been looking into playing Silent Hill. Never played them before, and I've been interested from the recommendations here. If just to play one for now, should I start from 1 for the story's sake or can I just start from 2?
