Steam can offer: - Easier updates system - Eliminate any problems with DDoS attacks - Multiple ways to buy the game - VAC for multiplayer (if you care about cheaters) - Workshop (needs mod support) But it still gonna be okay without Steam.
If it goes workshop it needs steamworks, which means it would have to be only steam based right?
Still can't get this game... Damn state of Vermont, US decides to tax stores for selling prepaid visas AND tax the buyers of the cards.. Total charge the buyer? 8.95... asjkldklasd
http://cubeworldforum.org/topic/12113-cube-world-on-steam [t]http://i.imgur.com/zBVVDLj.png[/t] It seems the Cube World community really doesn't want it to go to Steam. Look at the guy I'm arguing with and look at his retarded argument.
He's especially dumb because you can infact get keys, Valve give as many keys for your game as you need, and you're free to do whatever the fuck you want with them because it's your game after all.
Steam is a very big deal as far as publicity goes. It's the closest thing the PC has to going into a store and seeing a new game on the shelf.
His arguments are so dumb and invalid. "L0L EVRYONE AND THEIR MOTHER HAS THE GAME, PUT IT ON STEAM AND NOONE WILL BUY IT CUZ THEY ALREADY HAV IT. L0L TRADING CARDS SUX ACHIEVEMENTS SUX" I don't have the game and i'll buy it only if it goes on steam. Even Minecraft would sell a lot of copies if it was added on steam at this point.
steam wouldn't be a bad idea, hes thinking of doing it later. id imagine later being, the game is more optimized and complete rather than a alpha riddled with lots of exploits bugs and balancing issues. when he finally gets the forums up i hope he'll have a section for posting bugs again and compile a public list of common ones. cause i've noticed a few myself and since i got the game running through steam i've been screen capping ones i notice. if its possible to anyway.

So uhm, has anyone seen this working on Linux yet? I really love this game but I'm afraid my laptop will overheat if I keep playing on that. (btw, what's everyone's favorite pet?)

I know it's my laptop's fault, it just gets really hot really quick.

Regardless it would sell even more than it already is had it been on Steam.
Sure, delta sales. But it wouldn't be groundbreaking. How many more copies of the game can you realistically put out. Another 100,000? 500,000? Point is Steam would make sense for cubeworld maybe later when the game is more fleshed out as the users have developed a game that can safely be sold in a more normal manner on Steam. ANd something like MC would see little benefit I'd imagine, though workshop would be neat on it. Don't know how It'd work.
Minecraft has sold 11.5 million copies. Denouncing steam simply because Minecraft didn't need it would be like denouncing medicine because one man happened to get better without it.
Minecraft is not a good reference when talking about market norms. Denouncing steam simply because Minecraft didn't need it would be like denouncing medicine because one man happened to get better without it.
Which is why I'm saying minecraft doesn't need steam. And I don't think cubeworld needs it either. Which is like me saying, "This man is fine, he doesn't need medicine" Not "Since he doesn't need medicine, no one needs medicine." When did I denounce steam?
Minecraft got so popular because there weren't any good alternatives of the same genre. Cubeworld isn't unique enough to bring that same kind of hype, until modding becomes implemented.
I notice some mouse lag so I guess it's already capped at 60fps.
try playing in fullscreen, that removes any input lag for me

Just because some developers have managed without steam doesn't mean you will or should for that matter.
well over the course of making the game on twitter alone hes gotten how many followers? nearly 100k. that doesn't mean thats all hes gonna sell just based on that number, but its a good bet thats how many hes sold so far.
I'm just saying it's dangerous to be taking these things for granted, particularly when you're an indie dev. Just because some developers have managed without steam doesn't mean you will or should for that matter.
I'm simply pointing out that as long as the developer has an easy way to buy, play and talk about the game, steam shouldn't be a necessity. I will agree for a small dev it can be a huge boost to publicity, but already there are loads of videos and video series on CubeWorld by big names online. I think cubeworld thankfull already has a really solid gameplay base which will flourish when it starts putting more content in. The games that seem to not need to rely on steam seem to be games that have lots of creative and community potential. The procedural aspect as well as the voxel design aspect I think help develop the game into more than just a title on a steam page. If anything it will be easier to get on steam once the game is larger and he can either get more votes for it without risk of losing his deposit or he can go directly to SteamHQ with his proposal. I already know 6-7 friends who have purchased the game and are playing a ton of it. Perhaps if the noise died down in a few months a news worthy launch on steam would be a solid choice to bring the game back to the front of people's minds.
If this thread ever gets locked, I have the perfect idea for the next one. Cubeworld V2: THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL
Why do quest bosses keep instantly recovering their health even if I'm winning?? I'm trying to solo a quest boss at the top of this rock and I am power level 100 with all purple/yellow gear as a fire mage with insane tempo, and I am kicking it's ass, but every time I get it down about half way, it's health instantly recovers no matter what. What gives?

For some reason despite actively attacking it and actively being pursued by it, the game will seemingly forget you're in active battle with it so it resets its health as if you were out of range.
That's... Pretty bad... Hope it gets fixed soon.
i hope EVERYTHING gets fixed soon. the tiny update he did was... sad... for what little it did... the frame limit doesn't even seem right. 111 is the default? why not 60? oh wait i can lower it, hm 58 or 62 are my options. good one wollay.

It might keep count of every second the unit chases you, and when it hits the limit, game thinks you have been running enough and want to be left alone.

Been away for two weeks, what happened?
