Ugh, these comments. "Steam is bad cause Cubeworld doesn't need it!"
with wollay's work ethic, steam now would be jumping the gun. when he claims it is complete and out of beta, maybe. i'd prefer being able to play it outside of steam though.
i'd prefer being able to play it outside of steam though.
It's not like it's going to be Steamworks-only or anything like that. You can play a lot of games both on and/or off Steam. How I'd imagine it working is, if you already own the game you'll be supplied a Steam code that you can activate. Basically how War Z handled it. If you buy the game on Steam, you'll be able to play off Steam just by running the exe separately. If you buy it off-Steam, you'll get a Steam key too, but you don't have to use it.
Steam's Early Access section is full of unfinished games that you have to pay for, it would fit right in.
yeah but seeing it takes him about 2 months to do an update it could result in bad publicity among the steam forums. resulting in the game not selling well, resulting in listing it on steam being pointless. if he brought it to steam with promise of a steam server support of some kind so people could look for cubeworld servers through steam THEN that would be a really neat reason to bring it to steam. for now, he just needs to focus on development and get it into Beta or atleast into some state where game mechanics are balanced.
wait, so i havent played this game since like july and theres not been much progress? aw
its doubtful but maybe he caught on that we like to hear from him everyone once in awhile?
What if he was held at gunpoint and forced to write that tweet Good chance he's alive but you have to consider the fact that he might be held prisoner by Taliban in a hole somewhere.
What if he was held at gunpoint and forced to write that tweet Good chance he's alive but you have to consider the fact that he might be held prisoner by Taliban in a hole somewhere.
this "taliban" guy is a big dick, I've heard a lot about him in the past few years. definitely a possibility.
its doubtful but maybe he caught on that we like to hear from him everyone once in awhile?
That sounds way too optimistic for Wollay. He probably realizes it but just doesn't actually bother doing anything about it usually.
That sounds way too optimistic for Wollay. He probably realizes it but just doesn't actually bother doing anything about it usually.
eh i sway from half empty to half full sometimes. reality is the glass needs more beer in it.
So, Nothing new? Wow.
So glad someone else bought me this game. If I spent $20 on this, I'd be in a perpetual state of cringing over the shitty purchase. I didn't even enjoy the game, monsters were ridiculously overpowered and there wasn't much to do. I realise it's in Alpha but Wolay is awful for not speaking to his customers and letting them know what's happening. That one tweet in 2 months is pathetic.
he left it in a somewhat more stable state atleast. but yeah more communication would be welcome. no more of this Wollay Wonka and the Indie Dev Factory stuff.
pending the next update i might buy it for a couple people as well that are intrested. but if the update is kinda lacking i wont bother.
pending the next update i might buy it for a couple people as well that are intrested. but if the update is kinda lacking i wont bother.
"There's an option for a smaller user interface, the controls will be configurable and there are a few new creatures. We're tweaking game balance to make it easier at lower levels and harder at higher levels. We're also experimenting with some major changes but I'm not sure yet which ones will make it into the next patch." -Wolfram von Funck on what's to come.
https://picroma.com/blog/post/10
I'm currently reworking some aspects of Cube World to improve the game experience. I'm planning to include them in the next update, but I still need some time to test them. Here is an overview: - Maximum power is now scaled to 20 (from 100). Effectively, your strength won't be affected, just the numbers are scaled and items are available for a wider level range. - Each land now has a power level which determines the average power of creatures and dungeons. That way, players can choose difficulty by themselves. - The size of lands has been decreased. The average size is now 20x20 tiles (was 64x64). This enables players to explore new lands more quickly and also results in closer cities. - Naming and coloring of creatures and dungeons is now analog to items: For example, a blue "Undead +18" means that he has power level 18 and is likely to drop +18 items of blue quality. In contrast to before, players can now precisely see the power of creatures. - Dungeon missions aren't generated daily anymore and aren't adapted to the player level. Instead, players can see on the map if a dungeon has been cleared or not (indicated by a skull icon). A dungeon is cleared by defeating the boss and will remain empty for a couple of days. - I'm working on underworld caverns: The idea is to have a network of caverns below the overworld with secret entrances at the surface. The underworld will be inhabited by various monsters of varying power and will add another exploration factor to the game. Currently I'm experimenting with nice-looking entrances (it's tricky to get them right). Besides that I'm working on a better forum/comments solution, but currently the next update has priority.
WOOOOOOOO more info.
That's a "lot" of changes given how much time has passed since last update.
it might be, but when will he finish is "test"? in 3 years?
it might be, but when will he finish is "test"? in 3 years?
Probably this month.
theres nothing about those changes i dont like xP, the power level thing would definently make it easier to trick out a weapon with spirit cubes, and the specific power levels areas will make it easier to find ones you want.
For those who don't follow him on Twitter, here's a blog post related to the scalable UI and his tool that he made, Plasma.
FYI there is a new Cube World clone in the make, by Trion Join the discussion here: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1325539
FYI there is a new Cube World clone in the make, by Trion Join the discussion here: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1325539
"Clone" is a strong word, since it implies nothing's changed from the game it's cloning. Trove is quite a bit different from the looks of the trailer alone. (an improvement if you ask me)
I just want this game to turn out great. Seriously even the first versions felt nice to play.

looks like he's adding a few more biome types before putting the new update out. should give lots of new places to explore. https://twitter.com/wol_lay
at least he isn't dead
New blog post today
We're currently adding new landscapes (deadlands and savannahs) as well as new dungeons, villages and creatures. Additionally, we're experimenting with a new quest system. Here are some screenshots:
[img_thumb]https://s3.amazonaws.com/picroma/images/screenshots/landscapes/02.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]https://s3.amazonaws.com/picroma/images/screenshots/landscapes/02.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]https://s3.amazonaws.com/picroma/images/screenshots/landscapes/03.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]https://s3.amazonaws.com/picroma/images/screenshots/landscapes/08.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]https://s3.amazonaws.com/picroma/images/screenshots/landscapes/13.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]https://s3.amazonaws.com/picroma/images/screenshots/landscapes/18.jpg[/img_thumb] Hopefully this update brings new life back into the game, I miss it.
