From what I remember of the Alpha, it was everything you should expect from an Alpha (that is, it was unpolished, unbalanced and lacking content) and I was fine with that. What I wasn't fine with was the devs lack of drive when it came to actually churning out updates and giving us information on upcoming patches and plans.
How long did it take him to fix the severely overpowered enemies? I remember the game was nigh unplayable since even the weakest enemies could kick your ass. I don't know how some people managed to get 50 to 100 hours out of it.
The landscapes were beautiful, the characters were quirky and cute, but god damn, you had THREE spells and fought the same enemies over and over. Leveling was a chore and fights were incredibly difficult. I got a good 10 hours out of it, and that's being generous. If the dev had been consistent in updating the game, I'm sure it'd be altogether more awesome and enjoyable. But we practically got a barebones Alpha that was left "as is" for all this time.

He didn't. I played with another person, we battled some enemies for up to 15 minutes.

Exploration, finding quirks in the terrain generation, and overall being more social and thus having people to play with, helped in my journey to getting my money's worth.
Also, I bought 2 copies, the other copy being for the person I mainly played with.

You can get refunds where

look they got your money, and your a angry consumer, but you've got a unique set of skills, you will find his website, you will send an e-mail. and you will demand refund.
wollay: "good luck."

Actually I wouldn't want a refund on this. I don't tend to ask for refunds on indie games (with the exception of overgrowth)

You don't want a refund for this but you did for overgrowth?
You don't want a refund for this but you did for overgrowth?
This was worth my money but overgrowth wasn't
IMO neither was worth my money
Some games, like Prison Architect, Path of Exile (F2P) and Starbound (to a bit lesser extent than the other two due to constantly delayed beta release) were still value pre-purchases, you can clearly see the progression those games have, meanwhile Overgrowth gets a new small feature once every blue moon and Cube World has had it's development practically frozen for a really fucking long time.
For the amount playing I have gotten even is worth.
I got what I payed for, a fun even if unfinished two player game.
I forgot this game existed.
I didn't. I give the shortcut a longing stare every so often, wishing that wollay would at least fix issues the game has with intel processors. It's saddening.
This dev is shit. And the people who bought into his game can't help but stoically defend him, like a starving person being fed scraps: "But he blog posts 3 or 4 times every 6 months, you can't call him bad!" It's still scraps, and if he cared anything for the people who supported him, he'd take a few minutes out of his day to update us all. It's pathetic and bad form.
He should give an update on the progress. He should have just updated the game regularly with smaller updates instead of making a huge one and being in the dark for months.

But when the game does update, it will almost be like an entirely new game

Still doesn't justify his behaviour. For all we know he just grabbed the money and ran.
Do you think Wollay spent two years working for ultra hype release to run away with money?
Do you think Wollay spent two years working for ultra hype release to run away with money?
Not impossible.
Though I give him the benefit of the doubt because of how long I've followed the game before release and how unimaginably hyped I was for the game.
Still doesn't justify his behaviour. For all we know he just grabbed the money and ran.
we made this observation long ago. then an update came out a month later, this was like 7 months ago or so.
hes still there hes just bad at PR. his stregnth is his coding and game design choices.
what he proposed many earth orbits ago, taking the level system from maxing out at power 100 (would be something like level 1984 or something) to power level 20. Meaning your gear you find for you power level will be easier to improve AND last longer.
his new biome suggestions all look neat too. forgot how many. i wanna say like 4 new biomes though.
Quests. this is what everyone was really waiting for i think, the ability to embark on a quest with friends. if anything this is probably what he is still stuck on i can see fine tuning this being the biggest issue with how he wants to do it.
but for all we know he could be running off to a random gaming Convention as a visitor. personally i hope he can afford a booth that'll demo his next update's features.
that and a 4th skill for each class would be nice to fill that 4th hotkey...
edit: i do hope we see the update soonish though, it could be riddled with bugs in the quest system and i wouldnt mind, it is still alpha afterall.
Do you think Wollay spent two years working for ultra hype release to run away with money?
To be fair, didn't he announce cubeworld 4 years before the alpha was even released?
Do you think Wollay spent two years working for ultra hype release to run away with money?
I doubt he's going to run with the money but the fact that people are actually concerned about that fact should be throwing up red flags for him. His completely lack of communication and updates is harming his game.
This was worth my money but overgrowth wasn't
Honestly this made me laugh, how the fuck Cubeworld is worth anything more than looking at is beyond me.
Honestly this made me laugh, how the fuck Cubeworld is worth anything more than looking at is beyond me.
If you count amount of hours, Cubeworld still is a pretty enjoyable experience. the downside is the depression knowing it will take such a huge time to see it to the full potential.
Honestly this made me laugh, how the fuck Cubeworld is worth anything more than looking at is beyond me.
I don't know, the game is fun to play?
Yes it lacks content but it doesn't make it a complete shit
i think for atleast a few people knowing hes got a better grasp of how the game should run, and it taking ages to get to see this content is what has a few people nay saying on it.
i dont blame em, the content he has planned for the next patch would actually improve the game a lot, and probably allow for higher level soloability.
currently my Shield warrior, can get 2 shotted by strong creatures equal to my level.
im in pretty much the most epic armor i can find. even if i manage to survive fighting a boss at this level (roughly level 100, power level 73 or so) his HP will now reset because a FULL IN GAME DAY will ahve passed since i started.
so forgive me if i think its in dire need of its next update before i'd advocate it as a good game. for multi player and friends, as it is its fine, few bugs here and there.
for solo, wait till he gets the new mechanics fleshed out into the game.

Ya, he ran
Still tweaking the quest system. It'll be less MMO-style and more focused on exploration and finding cool locations.
I'm also removing markers from the map, so players need to find the way themselves. But there will be signs. :)
Quest items will be put in a special inventory bag which is shared between players in multiplayer mode.
If you find an enemy with a '!', attack him and you'll get the quest! No need to find a quest giver first.
There won't be quest givers. The quests are just there and you need to discover them. However NPCs will give hints.
I certainly hope they have markers after you reach them at least. Otherwise finding shit you've already discovered and are trying to go back to will be irritating.
FINALLY HE HAS SPOKEN !!!!
Now to wait another year for a snippet of info. Funny thing is it has been so long I actually have no idea when it was the last time he said anything all I remember is that it was ages ago.
I'm ok with removing markers from the map, will enforce more exploration instead of straight up A to B moving.
I'm ok with removing markers from the map, will enforce more exploration instead of straight up A to B moving.
I'm okay with that too. It's kinda like the TES games in that way where there's few markers on the map until you get close enough to them. And that's what I mean with my post is that I think after you've discovered a place there should be a marker. It's completely reasonable to not have them before that point but after you've reached a dungeon or such then you either are forced to remember the way to it or are obligated to go through it immediately. That's why having markers appear after discovering a place should happen, otherwise the map serves surprisingly little actual purpose at that point.
So I'm just learning of this game now, but it sounds like it isn't worth the money in its current state?
So I'm just learning of this game now, but it sounds like it isn't worth the money in its current state?
It is fun but there are incredibly long amounts of time without the slightest bit of communication or response so you have no idea what is going on with development. You should probably hold off on buying this for a while.
As an example the last time he gave us any info was nearly 3 months ago.
