I feel like modding could save this game if Wollay were to create decent API.
He's already mentioned he has no intention of making the game moddable. He's one of those devs who sees others messing with his game as basically a personal insult from what I've seen.
I don't think that's an alpha priority
not a priority*
Apperantly none indeed, this game has been a disgrace...
disgrace is the perfect term for it
he should be ashamed.
9 months without a patch, what the hell was he thinking

he hasn't released the game yet though, he released an early access for pre-orders with absolutely no promises to update it.

He is accepting money for a product. He has an obligation to his fans to keep on working on the game.
We're planning to release updates regularly. Updates are free.
This is taken from the Cubeworld homepage. It makes sense if 9 months is considered regularly.

He is working on the game.
Also, is that referring to the early access or the full product? By saying the updates are free, I'm thinking he's referring to the full product.
I didn't even get a fucking chance to play the alpha properly since it crashes and freezes my entire computer thanks to the fact it's not optimized for my system, boils my graphics card then driver crashes, that's what I figured out, nothing I can do about it. Wollay better needs to release some update if he wants to even keep any dignity he has left.
Such a goddamn shame. This game was so magical when my friend and I first started it. Then we were like "...well what do we do now?"
That was awhile ago...
Every time I come in here and see new posts I get excited.
itt: wollay has abandoned us
Such a goddamn shame. This game was so magical when my friend and I first started it. Then we were like "...well what do we do now?"
That was awhile ago...
well whenever he gets around to finishing the questing system and implement that along with his other things im sure are finished, there will be lots to explore.
The new updates he's been working on look nice, but I don't feel that great since he'll probably just go disappear for another half a year after it's released. He hasn't broken that pattern yet.
I think a lot of people are forgetting that he only opened up alpha purchases in the beginning from the community demand for it. I mean sure, he caved into it and we should blame him for that, but his development cycle was slow in the first place. Nobody had heard of this game for the 2 or so years his blog existed before he put up alpha purchases. Blame the people, not the developer here.

Plenty of people had heard of it. Hence the demand for the alpha and the amount of sales that were made. And note again that, as has been said repeatedly over the last 8-9 months, simply communicating rather than falling off the face of the planet for half a year at a time would have helped this issue immensely.
Wollay didn't have to insist on doing every single bit of everything himself damaging his public image, he didn't have to disappear for months on end further damaging his public image, he also didn't need to keep all updates private to his testing team until he feels it's ready for the public essentially killing his own game before its full release when he could have a separate update stream people could opt into.
The vast majority of the issues surrounding Cubeworld and Wollay falls squarely on Wollay's shoulders.

indeed, i think a couple of people said they'd host shop for his game so people would buy it through them and all the information would be processed on reliable servers. he declined and went with... amazon was it? either way week 1 of its release was a nightmare for people wanting in.
part 2 was how unstable servers were, thankfully he fixed that issue and as the game stands its very stable if not badly unoptimized, but once you explore a good bit of your region, reach level 1000 it starts to get pretty empty for things to do. thats mainly lack of a efficient quest structure like he plans to implement.
and the final nail in his PR's coffin is in fact his lack of communication, he said he'd try to get the forums back up which would ahve helped immensly with his PR, but from what we can assume, most of his work has been soley on the game itself. so no real effective way to drop him a message of anykind unless it has to do with a purchase question or something.

The community is partially to blame for it existing in its current state. But his development cycle would still be painfully slow whether he released it then or five years from now.

To be fair, he was getting ddosed really really hard.
If amazon wasn't able to cope with it properly, I seriously doubt anybody else (who was offering him help) could have done any better at that time.

yeah true, i couldnt remember if he was getting DDoSed before people said they had problems buying or after. its been too long and his lack of actual updates goin out made me among others lose most interest in following the game.
hoping we'll see something next month, but doubting it based on what hes said in recent tweets it might be more like the month after next.
I cant say i blame you all for getting hyped about it and buying it, i was hype for it, but i've learnt from many things to wait for the community backlash before anything else.
(P.s. i knw the backlash came a long time after its release but i've been dicked over a lot by many things that i just cant get super hype enough to get anything on release anymore without waiting 4-5 months, it's why i'm always late to the party on every game since 07)

lets hope his optimisim about how the quest system works means we'll see an actual update.
Next update i'll host a server. Mainly for testing to see if any changes were made and also system testing on my rig. more than qualified im sure but i mean the whole thing. network etc.
I know Wollay doesn't like fast travel and wants people to explore, but the player teleporting would actually allow server owners to spawn immobile bots in cities and people could teleport to them.
New biomes confirmed, this update will probably be very big

Blog post about quests.
man i know what times he posts his stuff usually but im always missing them as they happen.
need to set twitter up to notify me so i can try and get some questions in.
So the dev did wake up?
So the dev did wake up?
He'll go back to sleep soon enough.

Hibernate
looks like hes gone again. 3 days in a row of no confirmations of anykind other than his new quest system will be much more to the style of the game.
