I read the first three pages of this thread, and it was nothing but kids tripping over each other to call minecraft a bad game and claiming notch is a
"bad programmer."
Great to see that this game was a dud while minecraft is still going strong. Bring on the boxes suckers.
"Hey guys listen to me, I don't like the game and MC is better in every way. Bye now!"

thats the day where i plan to never give shit bout this again.
for those that dont realize that would be a year from his last patch.
edit: i seem to get most of my boxes from this thread. whats sad is its usually on something im right about. not my fault you dont get it.
Notch is a bad programmer. And this game is a dud because the dev is an idiot when it comes to PR. That has nothing to do with the actual quality of the game.
I put Cubeworld Wollay in to Google and one of the first matches was Cubeworld wollay dead. If he would just have a better line of communication with the people who bought the game it would be a lot more forgiving.
I can't believe it's been more than a year that the game is out right now. And still nothing too.
Exactly. I felt so fucking cheated when like half a year after buying the game, there was still nothing really new that made me not regret my purchase.
and I remember being super excited about it being available to download and was thinking to buy it.
glad I didnt.
I am glad I did buy this and currently don't have any regrets. I have gotten so much fun out of this after playing on my own with people on facepunch and people from college over the past year and I cannot wait to get more fun out of it from the next update. Wollay may be unimaginably slow and beyond god awful at communication but man have I had so much fun already I cannot wait to get back into this again whenever the update hits.
His work speed is unacceptable considering most people have had to pay money to play this but the game is really fun and I cannot wait to play more of it in the probably distant future.

Do yourself a favor and stop humiliating yourself. Notch IS a bad programmer, hell there's even unofficial mods that make the game faster by optimizing his code and/or adding new one. Even months after those mods were out, not much effort was put into optimizing the game, hell the game lacks enemies and there's a mod that adds hundreds of them. And they don't even bother giving the modding community the Modding API that was promised months ago (if not a year or more). So those who do bother to improve the game have to do it messing around with bad code and quite a lot of it isn't even documented properly because the code has been decompiled and all of the variables are obfuscated so we don't even know what most of them do until we mess around a lot with each and every one of them... Thankfully the people who make the decompiler have been replacing the names of those variables we do know so it gets less messy every version.
Anyways, I'm not saying Cubeworld is better on that department, no mod support, the game requires a relatively good computer to run and I have probably spent more time on Minecraft than I have on Cubeworld. However, the games aren't even comparable in gameplay, the only similarity is the "voxels as cubes" aesthetic, everything else is different.
I don't regret having bought either, although Minecraft was more than worth my money, Cubeworld was too. I paid $15 for it if I'm not mistaken and played about 25 hours with a couple of friends, that's more than many AAA games have given me before I got tired of them. I'm as angry/frustrated as the next guy who bought it because Wollay works incredibly slow and doesn't accept PR help if he can't do it himself, which is unfortunate because Cubeworld was one of the few games that I stopped playing not because I was tired of playing it, but because I'd seen everything there was to see and did everything there was to do. If Minecraft didn't have mods, I probably would have stopped playing it a long time ago as well.
That being said, the game is still being worked on and that's good news for those of us who bought it.

(such as a purchase not going right etc.)
so again in my defense, many of the boxes i've been getting, is people not actually taking the split second to think about it. they just see the first one and start stacking crates. again though this doesnt suprise me, a good portion of FP's userbase is like this.
I saw this had a new post and was a little excited because I thought maybe the update had come out or there was some more news!
Nope, just two guys writing walls of text at eachother.
Also, going back and re-reading it, I think he may have meant to reply to Tomcat, not you.

Was searching through my old posts and found my posts in here from the day the store was up.
I stopped playing around a week after and I've never played it again because it was so lacking..
Wollay needs to get his shit together.
Why would you bump this thread? Fuck Wollay and fuck Cubeworld. He's done like, what, 2 updates since releasing the Alpha? Disgusting.
despite my dumb rating on you, its agreeable the timing of his last patch being over a year ago now, he does need to make some kind of version of his new version, or atleast say why there hasnt been any kind of patch lately despite the progress hes made.
Fuck Wollay because the guy basically swindled a bunch of people and hasn't had the decency to at least talk to his fanbase. I don't know about you, but that's kind of being a massive shitlord.

It doesn't make sense to put so much effort in a game and then refuse to update it
If/when there is another update, it'd most likely be a really really big one. One that'll make people come back to play. At least I hope so.

You paid for an Alpha and that is what you've got.
Wollay has never provided frequent updates, you should be looking into a developer's history when you buy into Early Access.

i gotta come in here to interject
wollay has never made anything good in the past so it's hard to go and look at his history to tell if he's going to be a huge money-groveling asshole or if he's going to legitimately continue working on a project hundreds of people support
the concept of buying early access games is just something everyone on the internet has became accustomed to because, let's face it, in this generation NO game ever gets completed. If it's an AAA title they just force-feed you rehashes year after year with one or two lousy last-minute gimmicks added to make you feel like it's fresh before making you realize the game is set up to have an infinite amount of sequels, or else it's an indie project that just stays infinitely in early access stage. unless it's made for cell phones.
that's just the generation we live in now. that's next-gen: incomplete AAA titles designed to maximize profits on microtransactions and DLC or incomplete indie games that will probably never be genuinely "finished." take your pick
the difference between wollay (and a few other people) and other indie developers is that he literally just shat out a game and bailed on it after he made some money on it. at least other indie devs update their game and/or keep in touch with the community built around it. now that he's forever shit-stained on the internet as someone who never finishes anything, he's probably never going to successfully release another new game with his name alone so who cares

that being said i enjoyed cubeworld for the ten minutes that i played it

He has been maintaining a blog for some while and, were you to look at it, you would see that he very rarely updates. But if you are really unsure of a devs history and behaviour - ere on the side of caution, else you will only have yourself to blame should they fail to live up to your expectations. Nothing is lost in letting others test the waters before diving into a risky venture.
You said yourself that there are an increasing number of disappointing games - so why take an unnecessary risk?
That said, I do not believe Wollay has bailed. He has merely resumed his previous routine of going silent for long periods at a time.

The thing is, he made his game look very promising and made us believe there would be a shit ton to do, even though the game was just in alpha. Then when the game launched, all there was was a tedious grind and a little bit of crafting, but it didn't live up to the expectations he himself created at all.
That and the fact that he was more active when the game had just launched (albeit still inactive compared to other devs), make me as well doubtful this game will ever get a major update.
If/when there is another update, it'd most likely be a really really big one. One that'll make people come back to play. At least I hope so.
I very strongly doubt that the game will ever again be as popular as it was when he first released the alpha. Wollay really shot himself in the foot with complete ineptitude for communication. A very large portion of his customers probably won't ever even realize there's an update when he finally gets around to it since it has been over a year now.
this wollay hate is interesting
like, this dude started developing a game that looked awesome. so people demanded he let them pre-order it and play it early access. wollay was against this idea specifically because he's terrible at keeping people up to date and probably wouldnt patch his game until its released. now this exact situation has happened and people insist they've been 'swindled'.
it's so...enigmatic.

The thing is, he really made good progress in the beginning, when he first showed off his game. The community was really big and active, his blog got regularly updated, the game looked really really awesome... and he showed his community absolutely everything the game had to offer, so there wasn't really something players could discover themselves and get excited/surprised by. Now, if you know you're terrible at keeping people up to date (but seriously, how hard can it be?) then you just need to shut up about your game, not release a shit ton of information just to be deadly silent the year after and show off your game when it's almost ready for release, which is exactly the opposite of what Wollay did.

so he's bad because he let you guys see everything he had released before he went back to not revealing information? had he continued to reveal information, would you instead be angry about how slow development is going instead?
also don't lie the blog never got regularly updated

I'm not saying he's bad or anything, I'm just saying that he shouldn't have shown the whole game to us, only to make us realise a year later that the game is still the same and nothing really got added. People are bound to get bored of your game that way, even the big Cubeworld communities have died.
The only thing that made me 'angry' (but not really, there are plenty other good games) is the fact that he was too stubborn and selfish to accept help from others. It had to be 'his' game and nobody else (except his wife or however the other person is related to him) was allowed to help shape this game. There were countless offers, even from known developers, but he rejected them all and that's one of the reasons development never really knew any progress.

You don't do one thing then change your mind the last second and do the opposite, meaning he released something onto early access means after he changed his mind, but no he leaves just like some socially awkward teenager and pretty much says see you suckers while cashing in, double fucking standards.
