I hear tell of rumors on the CW forums about the demo being released today or tomorrow.
I'm not getting my hopes up, but it /would/ be nice. I've also heard rumors of the alpha being released on the 9th (of july). Same as above, it would be nice.
my advice? dont believe anything on those forums not written by pixxie or wollay. if some one else wrote it they have nothing to base it on. the best feed is wollays twitter and watching the stream. not sure on the main website cause hes currently working on it. could it mean hes adding the account system and the demo? who can tell. only wollay truly knows
So much shitposting on the forums.

I'm not believing it, I'm just saying it'd be nice.
Will it have multiplayer?

deticated servers*
When I first saw the title, I thought this would be just another cheap Minecraft clone.
Yeah, then I saw the trailer. Holy crap, gave me a right proper voxel stiffy.
https://picroma.com/cubeworld#multiplayer
Awesome, can't wait to host a server for this.
Due to the voxels it looks like it wouldn't really take that much load on any computers running it, either, so all of my friends who have crappy computers can play.

Looks can be deceiving. Your computer has to crunch a lot more numbers when the whole world is represented by voxels.
But wollay probably optimized the fuck out of loads of it.

This game is basically perfect for an mmo
It sure is!
But do bosses/monsters respawn around the world?

voxels are easier to optimize than models, and it's in c++ and not java.
voxels are easier to optimize than models, and it's in c++ and not java.
Voxels can be more difficult to optimize than models. It all depends on who's doing it and how they're being handled.
I trust wollay more than I trust Notch (or, more accurately, Grum and Dinnerbone, the only two actually working on things...)
Wollay is a really down-to-Earth developer. It's pretty sad that his game hasn't even come out and he's already twice the quality developer Notch will ever be.
That's a fairly bad idea actually. You could exploit something like Cheat Engine to basically access the entire game for free that way.
Not really, he can just make it so that monsters don't scale above 5-6, acually had the same idea when i wrote that reply but figured out how to stop it several ways in a minute so i guess wollay can as well.
This looks cool but why Minecraft comparisons?
They're alike in basically no way other than style and even that is pushing it

You have to remember that the cube world world is simpler, the lowest block on a stack is much higher then in minecraft where you can acually dig down. From what i've seen just regular flat ground is 2 voxels deep (You can blow up the grass block but not the dirt one under it) So cube world works more as a regular map in 3d games being just a 2d plane but rendered in 3d and with voxels (ie Less cubes in same space = Lower Ram and no underground faces needed to be rendered)

Because cubes! :downs:

Yeah it's true but each game has their own positives and negatives that separate them. But all people have different taste. And I feel like they are both good but cube world looks better so far cause it has an impressive way of making the mmorpg gerene and have a good feel. But minecraft can add that still with mods but ehh I like the idea of this since it comes with quest, pets, voice chat (hopefully with private channels for users who want a party), dungeons, and much more. So I feel Minecraft is by far defeated cause this can be even way way better. And it's only in Alpha and it's already spread so much, gained a fan base, and people are eager to toss their money not even with a finished product that's not even available to the general public yet

But minecraft is more of a sandbox/adventure while this is more of a open world RPG / Adventure two different genres and goals, I think it is unfair comparing the two

Notch hate bandwagon! Choo-choo!
Notch hate bandwagon! Choo-choo!
Well to be honest, Notch did become lazy, abandoned the game, and then tossed it off into other hands way later down the line.
Notch hate bandwagon! Choo-choo!
Yeah, I mean, it's not like I have legitimate reasons for disliking him as a video game developer. Like going back on the majority of his promises for Minecraft until he finally decided to ditch it. He's the real-life example of someone who made promises, did more successful than he could've ever imagine, and decided to half-ass and get lazy because of it. I like him as a person to be honest, but as a dev I despise him.

Notch actually is a pretty terrible programmer.
Even Grum agrees, Minecraft's codebase was far worse before he hired others. That's saying something, considering it's still shit according to him.

They should really rewrite the entire game in c++ it should only take a few months and then they can add native mod support while they are at it.

i don't think looks can be deceiving because you cannot dig down which means everything under is wasted ram (Ofcourse he could have a dungeon which is 100000 blocks deep if he wants) but if nothing is under a block it's the last block of the stack. Otherwise wollay is an idiot which he does not seem to be :P
there´s no underground rendered except where it needs to be. some gameplay vids show this pretty obviously in their world minimap; the ground is only 3-5 blocks 'deep' but when the edge of the minimap crosses a body of water you see the depth on your minimap. Same thing with dungeons and caves. when the edge of your minimap crosses those, you see the depth of that as well. I'm absolutely sure Wollay hasn't built the engine to render a shitload of faces underneath your feet while there's no viable way to getting there and even a reason for needing them.

it's like

instead of the minecraft version of
[t]http://puu.sh/3tdv3.png[/t]
where black = rendered faces
(afaik)

Not really but yeah, MC does not render faces that has blocks all around it only faces which has air next to them which means all tunnels underneath the ground gets rendered. But for the basic understanding those pictures are right!

I was more referring to bit where Minecraft 'looks' like it has easy-to-handle graphics, but in reality is much more demanding.
Cubeworld might also be doing a lot of things that make it demanding, too. So we may be surprised if it doesn't run all the best on our computers.

Oh yes for sure!
Just received word that you can buy the alpha and try the demo on the picroma website.
They've just taken it down temporarily for testing, but should be back up soon!
