AFAIK you have to find/buy pet food then tame the animal according to the food it likes

You can get certain food items off enemies as loot or sometimes through shop keepers, these will appear in the pet tab of the inventory. Then you can equip it in your pet slot and run up to an animal and feed it.
Different pets like different food tho, for instance Rabbits will only eat Carrots (obviously).

the demo runs slow for me too, I think it's because it's generating terrain all the time.
So how do you start a server..? Do you just press server and it should say waiting for connection?

My dedicated server is now online and it will be 24/7. If you notice any lag etc let me know. I have it at 1 core, 1GB atm. I can higher the hardware template anytime.
