S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

Hey guys, I recently tried to get back into Stalker with CoP. I installed the Complete mod, and now I crash after some seconds on the main menu when I set my render mode to Enhanced Dynamic DX10.
Specs are:
Intel i3 @ 3,10GHz
GeForce GTX 460
6 Gb RAM
Also, the more I turn down other graphics settings, the longer it will last before it crashes. But even with every other graphic setting low, it still crashes within 5 minutes.

Oh boy
Is this a bad thing to do
Yeah for your first playthrough use stalker soup even if you dont have ShoC
I got about halfway into the game on vanilla before quitting, and my saves were apparently gone, so I figured it was a good time to try a mod

Oh in that case, we have a long list of good mods in our own Facepunch Mod Repository.
Also the usual Misery-shitting because we're all Redux fanboys :v:
Speak for yourself. Only modder I can both support and like is the guy who made the lightsabers and bicycle bloodsuckers.
That's a real modder with vision.
Big release of their long-awaited next version. It's more buggy than something with "extensive beta testing" should be. Also the usual Misery-shitting because we're all Redux fanboys :v:
Two of the only reasons why I like Redux so much over Misery, other than stuff like the textures, is that Redux is a lot more polished, and Redux hasn't got all the shitty ~deep~ advertising teaser shit and hasn't got a stupid fanbase that will defend it to the last breath.
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
I haven't tried Misery 2 and I will give it a go at some point, but from what I've heard, the dev team has spent so long working on it, and it's riddled with problems already
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
Apparently weapon damage is fucked too.
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]

lol
Okay, I take it back, I can't even launch Misery without crashing. :v: When I did get in, before it started crashing, it seemed interesting, but the gunplay felt off, like it was a bit weaker than the first version of the mod. I actually like all the new items though, I'm always happy to see more meds and other usable survival gear.
if you give the artifact to the bandits, the bandit will give it to beard and then the game crashes right after that
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
btw can items like textile sheets and hammers actually be used to repair equipment? i can't seem to find a way to use them but they say they can

I think that you're gonna cricize us to the last breath on the other hand :)
Still - I would encourage you to try it out, this will propably not change your approach (of being our heaviest critic) but it'll at least make your criticism justified.
Generally - Misery was never supposed to be a mod for everyone. This is actually very funny that on one hand almost all gamers complain about modern games being too easy and simplified but on the other hand majority of them expects it and wants to play only such games.
Mods like Misery are to satisfy different needs thou - needs which commercial titles will never be able to fulfil as they are products which need to be sold as widely as possible. This is what we think hardcore PC gaming is all about.

These 'supporive materials' only - they suplement the repair process. You need a dedicated repair tools to start the proces - just read thru descriptions of items.

A Misery developer is actually on this forum? I would like to use the chance to say that I enjoyed your mod. It's broken, but I have a lot of fun with it, like with first unpatched Stalker ShoC. I really liked the units you gave to food and electricity and stuff, not just abstract numbers, long descriptions are fun to read even though most of them doesn't fit my screen (1680x1050). I appreciate all the time you've spend on this and gave it to the community expecting nothing in return. The brown sucks though, but that's your artistic vision and I can understand.

I don't hate misery by any means, don't think that, but it just requires work.
Also I do prefer more difficult mods. Easy mode mods are just boring as hell.
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
I'm still going to give it a go anyway.
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
also I feel as if I'm becoming infamous as a misery hater
[editline]asd[/editline]
It seems alright so far, but i've already noticed that the AKM and PPSh sights are misaligned. Starting with an STG-44 also seems pretty stupid
Matter of taste I guess. Fact is that it does the trick of preventing using eadibles in the middle of combat which is the main point.
Tada, I've discovered that's why stimpacks exist! The descriptions not fitting on screen is still ridiculous but oh well. Also to the people saying weapon damage is fucked, AP rounds are a must when fighting human enemies.
Or a 1911 with DU rounds... That works too.
I'm still going to give it a go anyway.
Great - looking forward to your impressions.
(...) AP rounds are a must when fighting human enemies.

Yep + note that AI (for the first time ever in Stalker) is also using AP rounds against you (especially higher ranks) - thus the 'disproportion' in dealt / received damage which many people feel. Its done very much on purpose thou (philosophy of 'equal chances').
(same goes for for ex. night combat - vision of higher-ranked NPCs was tuned for player having a nvd on him - without one, they will purposely rape the shit out of the actor)
(...) It's broken.
Well - tbh after reading most comments I remain quite happy with bug / issues situation. Its all minor stuff - for 60mb of purely text files consitituting the script / config data its very much within the acceptable boundaries.
Does anyone have the link to AMK: SE on hand?
[editline]31st July 2013[/editline]
for download I mean
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31109343/AMK%20Sidorovich%20Edition.7z
This is the version I've been using with the download link taken from The Zone Manual.
I must say, I do like a lot of the custom models that are being used for stalkers aswell as the attempts at making yanov station and skadovsk more 'homey'
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
I'm a bit confused though
why does Pilot have a PKM

I mean jesus christ I thought he was just a guide
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
Also not sure if this is a mod or a stalker problem but

[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
also

Pilot has a random weapon selected from 'master Loner' roster.
The 2nd one is a bug obviously connected with cusomized system of generating jobs for NPCs in s_ts - funny that thru tens of hours of testing a team of 10+ testers were not able to detect some stuff which reveals itself in first 24h after release to wide audience :)
3rd one - fuck, I knew I'll forget about this text in the end lol
Whats nice though, is that this is one of the few mods with bolt action rifles with animations that dont suck dick
Hey troj, welcome to facepunch mate :) I'm looking forward to trying misery when I get back home in a couple of days!
Took me 4 mosin nagant shots to down a merc.
AP or not, it should not take that many shots to kill a human enemy
Took me 4 mosin nagant shots to down a merc.

Yeah, I've been finding that too on closer inspection. Anywhere from 3-7 headshots with an SKS to down mercs, armoured Stalkers and even bandits. Apparently the resistances are fucked, so I'll retract my previous statement. AP at least makes it more bareable.
2.0 has given me an actual fear of hearing "Cheeki Breeki" from around a corner though. Fucking bandits can resist 3-4 shots of buckshot at close range. Terrifying.
So from what I read MISERY 2 is a little (a lot?) buggy, won't stop me from trying it out though.
I knew the head-shots thing will back fire. I play a lot of MP shooters - so for me difficulty was the main focus. Still - people prefer predictibility, so I guess thats the way to go...
Btw its controlled by this set of lines in configs\creatures\m_stalker.ltx:
bip01_neck = 1.85, 0, 3.5
bip01_head = 2.80, 0, 3.5, 3
eyelid_1 = 2.80, 0, 3.5, 3
eye_left = 2.80, 0, 3.5, 3
eye_right = 2.80, 0, 3.5, 3
jaw_1 = 2.25, 0, 3.5
Just adjust the first value as much as you want. You might also post here - never too much inspiration as far as I go.

~Realism~, baby!
Still remember Misery1 bandits with titanium heads. 3-4 headshots with Mosin\VSS - 0 fucks.

Aha! I hadn't worked out that the breakdown was for those. Thank you, I've been tweaking it around to personal preferences. One of the most wonderful aspects of the game really, easy config edits.
Have to say, you're handling all the complaints well! It has lots and lots of great ideas overall.

Plus this: (optional)

Adjust the volume so that the guitar at full, campfire at half or 1/3, rain at 1 volume bar.
Enjoy :)

Yeah, tell me this, though: I was ambushing a group of Freedomers with my Skorpion machine pistol. The one with very light armor, the regular Wind of Freedom suit drops within 4 shots, while the one wearing Guardian of Freedom seems to not care about my bullets. Did you somehow manage to implement bulletproofing for certain calibers while wearing heavier armors? Or is this just some kind of freak accident? If the former is true, then I really am happy because it's something vanilla STALKER never really employed.

I remember Misery1 with OP Recon. Begin with VSK-94, get fine tools, 5.45x39 caliber upgrade and GG. Seriously that was the most OP thing ever and gave you a super easy game to complete :v: especially since Preobrazhensky's car ammo was still intact
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
Okay guys seriously though, this shit has so much detail and complexity that I will have to study this and make IRL notes about shit to even understand what's going on. I remember Croguy telling me about how complex Shadowrun is. This is starting to remind me of what he described.

This is very much on purpose - resistance of NPCs very much differers depending on armors.
Plus - this is not simple 'ammount of healt' matter - it really works as an armor meaning that he will drop much faster from penetrating, AP bullets (a lot of work went into enabling it).
Generally - in inventory you have protection bars - move your mouse over them an popups will appear. One which is important in this context is 'bullet protection' one - it should make the thing clearer for you. After reading thru it - start studying ammo descriptions and descriptions of armors at traders.
In short: you need to take into account armor classes and pentrability of certain bullet types.
You should also read thru descriptions of all other protection bars.

Yep - that was the plan.
For ex. note that you have entire famility of proximity trigerred explosives at your disposal. They play pretty well with recon class.
