Wizard shotgun. Everything you shoot with it magically drops dead to the ground.

AKA the double-barrel shotgun in SGM :v:
i've heard good things about Doom's mod thing for SoC, isn't it kind of like TFW?

Lets you choose your own faction at the start. Plus weapons from LURK and a freeplay mod.
Therefore it's called Doom'sFreeLURK. It's a good mod :)
Are there any mods similar to Oblivion Lost on ShoC for CoP? I'd like to have some fun with recruiting and stuff
What mod would you guys recommend for a first-playthrough of ShoC? I basically want it to look as good as possible without touching the core gameplay.
There are just so many mods and so many acronyms its confusing as feck.

There's a starter pack that's basically ZRP + max shaders + absolute stalker textures, which is only bugfixes and graphics.
But I don't know if you should use it, vanilla stalker has a unique charm to it with its cheesy yet vibrant textures.
Also, what's the best version of Narodnaya Solyanka available right now? I'm still playing some technobacon stalker soup and after a couple of playthroughs with it it's not russian enough for me.
Edit:
Actually looking at the starter pack it's even slightly more vivid than vanilla. I didn't remember absolute stalker like that. weird.
If you for some horrid reason like the idea of BROWN = REALISTIC you could go for a misery-style graphics mod called Autumn Aurora. The shaders are amazing, but the textures are awful.
Zone Reclamation Project is very recommendable as it's mostly just a bugfix and in the installation you can choose what gameplay changes you want to be included like whether you want to enable weapon and suit repair at faction technicians or not.
I was under the impression in Misery that the main repair kits were reusable, and it consumes the little items in addition to a reduction in it's own durability, but nope. 10k repair kit gets eaten up like a bandit in a whirligig. Seems to be just way cheaper to get Cardan to repair everything (or Nitro, depending on who you have the best discounts with). It's not like you're far from them, anyway, unless you're going through the Pripyat tunnels.
Also, it seems they changed the prices of things without changing the associated dialogue (e.g. 500 rubles to break into Snag's box according to Cardan, but he takes 3800 instead). CfP had that problem as well iirc.

oh man it's LURK guns too?
fuck the main story IM DOIN THAT SHIT
so well time to do a new run using only atmosfear + absolute textures n structures
any other graphical mods i should use? ( im a graphics whore )
I liked the gameplay of Doom's a lot, but holy fuck, what a depressive and gloomy atmosphere.
God damn, I'm trying to enjoy sniping niggas, not minding the weather.
i hope the one on the FP repository is up to date
Just tried a bit of Misery 2.0, it doesn't seem as bad as people are exclaiming. UI definitely needs some work, can't some descriptions and also the AKM Rifles have missing descriptions.
Not as buggy as people think of it.
It only crashed twice for me.
Buggy does not mean crashy.
I've been running the Redux mode with the Atmos and the texture packs and I've been having random crashes.
Is it usually that buggy or should I play around with my video settings and what not.
Also, I tried installing just Redux and adding the most recent Nature/Structure + Atmos packs and it would crash when starting a new game. I thought that was the correct way to use the addons?
All those remodeled maps makes me wish someone would make a Metro mod for STALKER, it would be perfect with all the things in the game already like crazy ass anomalies in the tunnel to Kitay-Gorod, offline A-Life in various stations/tunnels, Quests would be easy to make up with all the info the game already has, like an excursion into Park Pobdy, or just even exploring the abandoned lines would be sweet, Faction war between the Reds and the Nazi's, Weapon upgrading mechanics and etc.
speaking to wounded stalkers seems to crash the game
speaking to wounded stalkers seems to crash the game
I never had that happen, hrm. Were you using the single-part archive or the two-part?
two part, happened right after i finished the stalker hit mission, one of the stalkers was on the ground and when i tried to speak to him it crashed
[editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
it happened twice, so may just be that specific area or something i dunno
Some guy over at /vg/ has (thankfully) released a small patch tofix some of the issues people are having with Misery's attempt at difficulty. (Weird economy prices, mutant damage, idiotic resistances for NPCs etc)
I believe there has been some tweaks to anomoly damages too, 2.0 gave like +960% damage to the sniper class, for example. NPC resistances are now similar to that of the vast majority of other mods, which is to say, almost the same as vanilla master difficulty.

Outdated patch notes (contains most updates/features)
Economy fixes:
More rounds per box (roughly doubled still less rounds than vanilla)
(Hopefully) increased the amount of rounds dropped by stalkers (roughly trippled)
Changed the base weapon prices to be 1/3 of what they were (still almost double vanilla)
Fixes towards ridiculous immunities:
Set actor (you) to vanilla immunities for novice difficulty*
Set other stalker's immunities to vanilla master difficulty.
Set mutants to vanilla strengths (the cat was reduced based on the dogs, still is a bit stronger)
*This is because I think there are forces at play with how killable you are other than the immunity levels this is a hasty somewhat lazy attemt to
counter them. If after playing you feel too tanklike change the actor immnities on all difficulties as you see fit. 1.0 is 100% damage taken, .50 is
50% damage taken, .30 is 30% damge taken, and so on.
Having played with this, I can say it's a vast improvement in my opinion. It didn't take me 4 point blank pistol rounds to the head to take down a trenchcoat wearing bandit, nor did it take 3 near point blank sawnoff shells to take down a rookie suit stalker.
like the sound of that, do you need a new game?
like the sound of that, do you need a new game?
Nope, it's all config tweaks, you'll be fine.
like the sound of that, do you need a new game?
No new game required. It's doubtful that future unfuck patches will need a new game, either.
There's another guy over at /vg/ working on his own patch, which will include fixing repairs, among other things.
(I can't understand how extensive beta testing reuslted in no complaints regarding repairing. It's currently cheaper for me to buy a new suit entirely rather than repair one past 50%.)
Also, Mosin using 7.62x39, what the fuck.

Yeah when I saw that I got physically sick. Why would you need to do that when there is fucking 7.62x54r in the damn game already?

I don't know, but I feel nauseous. When I saw it, it felt like somebody had just set fire to a litter of pups in front of me.

Remember mod creators, when you mess up, you mess up like this.

This is pathetic really, users basically fixing up the mod.
This is pathetic really, users basically fixing up the mod.
It's all preference, really. But I do find it difficult to even attempt to defend some of the changes made. Other than the bloat, making people spongey enough to soak up several pistol rounds to the head, sawn off rounds to the chest or Mosin rounds to the neck/chest annoys the hell out of me. The economy is completely and utterly fucked, and is nothing like the scrounging, hard-done-by economy in Misery and IWA. I mean, seriously, 30k to repair your starting armor, 70k to repair an assault rifle used by half the stalkers in the skadovsk and in zaton?
If you go look at the misery bugs/forums etc, you'll see a lot of people blindly defending some of the "improvements" under the pretense that it makes the Zone "more hardcore." But, it doesn't, it's broken/dumb/bad/stupid/tedious. It's as close to artificial difficulty as they could have got - giving enemies bigger health bars, and giving you a smaller one. The gunplay in Misery 1.0 feltpretty good, but now? Pfft.
But, it's preference. As hard as I find it to defend these features, obviously there are some who enjoy them. They don't see the features as broken or bad.
The people who do have released their own patch, and will likely release more, as so far the "extensive beta testing" is evidence enough for many of those playing and working on the mod, that xyz is fine.

Things like this are making me laugh, though. People who are calling out anyone attempting to reduce the level of artificial difficulty (re: reducing the amount of point blank pistol shots to the head it takes to kill a trenchcoat wearing bandit) as casuals, or saying they aren't hardcore enough to deal with Misery. Letting practically unarmored bandits soak several Mosin rounds to the chest or pistol rounds to the face isn't "hard" it's dumb, and a horrible attempt at making the game harder.
