Greetings fellow stalkers!
I recently ventured into the zone for the first time in many months.

Alright, I've been playing CoP again. I've reached the part where you have someone recruit the Monolith squad guys. I remember it being buggy as shit, so I saved before I went to recruit them.
And, as I expected - the monolith guys started shooting the duty recruiters as soon as they came up on the hill. I quickly ran up before they opened fire on the recruiters... And the only person that's alive is Strider. The 3 other squad guys are unconscious. When I try to speak with them (I wanted to give them medkits), my game crashes. I have no idea on what to do now. I am friendly with the Duty at the moment - I've done most quests for them.

I reverted to an early save and Strider is still shooting the Duty recruiter. Fucking bugs.
That's great. I think the only save that won't have these guys hostile towards Duty is like 6-7 hours playtime to catch up to where I am right now. FUCK.

Motherfuckers, did you know that Duty in TRUE ukrainian is [B]борг[/B], while GSC has made it into the Russian translation [B]долг[/B], which like totally immersion braking for me. How can I write stories with Ukrainian, if Russian is following me everywhere.

The Polish translation makes Duty into "Powinność" which means as much as "Should-be-ness"

So I just reinstalled CoP and SoC. I played CoP right when the game came out with no mods. What are the major mods of CoP? Is LURK and Complete 2009 still the dominant SoC mods?
holy shit this game never gets old to come back to... never.
at least call of pripyat. it's way more fun when you make enemies with everyone, so not only is everyone shooting at each other, they're also shooting at you. also shotguns are fun as fuck to use. the winchester pump is my absolute favorite.
one thing i don't like though is how the pistol models all seem to be a bit to wide and/or look weird like the 1911 and the makarov... is there a mod that fixes this?
also when redux 2.0 comes out will there still be that wide open marsh area?

Yeah. Their ironsights as well as shooting animations are pretty bad. The only thing I'd love to see is their shooting animations play faster, as for vanilla, they're too slow that the pistols will likely block your sight when shooting.

it also makes the game easier by changing gameplay stuff, winds up making it too easy.

seriously this thing is a beast. i was shotgunning down mutants because they decided to descend upon the skadovsk or whatever en masse (no emission either).
pmuch everyone was dead and A-life was pouring in reinforcements from all around the map to rectify this mutant problem it had caused. i was out in the marsh about to go back and sell all my loot when some fleshes snuck up on me.
i got two with the remaining shells in my shotgun then pumped an entire magazine of 9mm in like a second into the face of the last one just before it slashed me, and probably would have killed me.
Automatic m9? bitch get on my level, silenced USP Compact would rape even bloodsuckers.

For Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat it's entirely obsolete ; you can get the same graphics from simply using the AtmosFear and Absolute packs and Complete for Call of Pripyat has been reported to cause save corruptations.
And what Schmaa said, it doesn't seem like it from the changelog but the experience is watered down significantly in Complete for SoC. Of course, if it doesn't matter to people then that's not an issue.

Not exactly. People still do play LURK but it's kind of fallen in favour of mods like OGSE, ZoA or the AMK+LURK weapons merge. However, LURK 1.2 is being developed and it's a whole different animal from LURK 1.1 and 1.05 (really, it should realistically be called LURK 2.0). One of the more interesting upcoming SoC mods without a doubt.
There's a [I]lot[/I] of new SoC mods that cater to various tastes. Generally speaking the "ye olde goode stalker mod" for SoC is considered to be AMK 1.41 which makes the A-Life much more dynamic, has features such as cooking artifacts , re-introduces some cut mutants and ups the difficulty in certain sections without going overboard in any of the aforementioned aspects. It's the real "vanilla 2.0".
One of the new hot mods in development is [url=http://www.moddb.com/mods/zone-of-alienation-mod]Zone of Alienation [/url]which is based off of AMK but features much higher challenge level, new guns, graphical overhaul and wide range of major rebalances in every area of gameplay. It's still at kind of an early stage of development but it's already a full-fledged mod.

Having played all the Stalker games I still have no idea which one I like the best
I don't even use pistols in any STALKER game apart from the very beginning
the pistol + ammo is really just dead weight when you learn quick inventory management

Funny thing happened when I was playing CoP
I slept in Skadovsk, waiting for the next emission. When it happened, I went out of there and saw a brown pile of something. I took a closer look, and that pile was 3 dead bandits just 10 meters from the door, then I looted 'em :v:
Starting a new Doom'sFreeLURK playthrough. Any suggestion? I'd like a faction that is similar to Monolith.
The reason for me not playing as Monolith is that they start in Pripyat. My laptop can barely handle that place.

The mercs are similar to the Monolith in that they'll have to rely on scavenging a lot since no one except the bandits like them.

For me rifles were actually more obsolete than pistols. Why should I carry something that heavy when a 1911 with 30 bullets is sufficient?

You can't hit anything at range, that's my main issue. And in some mods the suppressor on the pistol might block your view through the sights as well.
I'd rather carry a VSS with 60 rounds and be able to engage people at all ranges than a pistol and being able to engage is 20 meters.
