It's hard to recommend when you don't want a hardcore game~
Doom's Mod Merge? I don't recall if that had armor repair but go with it anyway because of the LURK weapons and freeplay.

If you don't like "hardcore" mods, Doom'sFreeLURK is a definite choice. You can repair stuff at Duty or Freedom base.

There is a lot of bloat, and unoptimized textures.
For example, there's some textures that add up to 120k kb, when they could just as easily be only 1k kb. There's quite a few of them, too, from what I understand.

For a good part, it's this. I love that the running joke revolves around the largest texture in the game being the pin-up they added to Yanov Station.
Texture compression is not a thing Miserys art team seems familiar with.
I have to lower texture detail and view distance to almost the lowest to not get immense stutter.
I had no problems in Redux on highest everything.
According to /vg/, Misery includes a cracked .exe; MD5 matches Razor's CoP crack.
If it's true, that's a monumental cock-up.

Yeah, this is what I was referring to earlier. It makes no sense either. I can understand if they were using the cracked executable as a base to modify, but it's untouched, completely untouched. This gets more and more frustrating as people dig. I can't wait for the upcoming TotalBiscuit Misery video to unleash yet more drooling unquestioning fans.

So I'm going to replay SoC. What mod should I install? Like what is generally considered the best mod? Something that steps the atmosphere up to a whole new level. Would it be misery or something else?

If you're feeling brave and have a lot of RAM you could try People Soup, it certainly brings the atmosphere to a whole new level (in terms of anger at least). I think LURK is in the top 3 SoC mods, my favourite is OGSE though. Also Misery is for CoP only, there's a WiP mod for Clear Sky inexplicably named Mystery but AFAIK it's dead.

I don't consider it likely the STALKER rights-holders will be bothered enough to chase them down for it, but it is a rather silly oversight considering they didn't do anything else to the exe (e.g. flagging it as large address aware)

I managed to resize a 12mb large texture file down to 2mb just by opening it with paint.net and saving it again. According to my eyesight, there is no noticeable quality loss.
Thats 6 times smaller than the Miersy texture file.

EDIT: Yeah, the MD5s match. The .exe is also 4mb smaller than the game's original .exe, just like the cracked one.
This is for the v1602eng_xrEngine.exe provided, not the Steam one.
