Does Misery still hang/stutter a lot?
This patch does nothing to fix that; it's just a rebalance thing.
I'm going to try it myself to see if it's true, one sec. EDIT: Yeah, the MD5s match. The .exe is also 4mb smaller than the game's original .exe, just like the cracked one. This is for the v1602eng_xrEngine.exe provided, not the Steam one.
[del]The MD5 from my Misery download has the following md5 which differs from the one in your post: Misery2 MD5: 2ee7f546d41aeaaaf4f196e8d5316e89 I just downloaded Misery 2 Today.[/del] See post below.

The installation zip has 2 xrEngine.exe files, i'm referring to the non-Steam one. EDIT: You checked the MD5 for StalkerCOP.exe it seems; that one is unrelated to what i'm talking about. I'm referring to xrEngine.exe in the bin folder.

Does anyone have a program or something that can help me optimize Misery's textures?
Does anyone have a program or something that can help me optimize Misery's textures?
Afaik there isn't such a thing. The main reason is that they're saved in a DXT compression format that isn't very suitable for them e.g. one kind has an 8-bit alpha channel, which is naturally useless for non-transparent textures. The only solution I know of is to go through them all with Photoshop or a similar program with the right plugin for the file type and re-save them in the appropriate compression format.
Does anyone have a program or something that can help me optimize Misery's textures?
Photoshop, Paint.Net.
Hang on... Skyrim and Oblivion have a tool called DDSOpt that does exactly that. CoP uses the same texture format. I wonder if the tool would work for Misery's textures. I'm going to try it out.
The more I watch this train wreck, the more I think that they should've had an open beta instead of relying on the whole thing being a great surprise bomb for the fans that they'll accept. That carries a huge, HUGE risk and thankfully they're taking it reasonably well. Open beta would've spoiled the surprise, but considering how much they were revealing already it wouldn't have been a death wish and could've avoided all this outrage easily. Thorny, please do an open beta at least SOME point, the community is the best bug-finding tool, I swear.

It's about a quarter of the way through, and has shaved off 150mb from 750mb processed so far.
It's about a quarter of the way through, and has shaved off 150mb from 750mb processed so far.
You beautiful bastard, I've done a quick run through with some of the uncompressed stuff and it works. I'd been doing this by hand, hadn't come across DDSOpt in my hunt for a batch method. Thank you! Victory Music.

Nearly 350mb saved. Going to start up Misery now and see if it explodes in my face or not.
Surely that stuff about the misery .exe can't be true? Is there any proof? /vg isn't exactly the most reliable source?
What? Link pls.
So far, the only messed up textures seem to be UI elements (menu backgrounds, scroll bar etc) It's easy enough to avoid; exempt the UI folder from the optimiser. Will report back on any other messed up textures. The reflections on the hands and knife also appear to be faulty. [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] It just occurred to me that the graphical corruption occurring on these textures is the same as is exhibited on some in Skyrim when put through the same tool, so it's not that it's not suitable for CoP textures, but rather an unavoidable consequence of trying to compress certain types of .dds file. [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] The flashlight sprite has a single out-of-place square. Not noticed any other reflective texture errors so far; in-game weather is currently raining and i'm running at maximum DX11, so shiny surfaces errywhere.

That's just [del]Gold[/del] Platinum.
Nimble's texture exhibits the same corruption, as does the food bowl next to him (just the bowl, not the food in it for some reason). One of the boarded-up windows, the one on the player's right when facing him, has a corrupt reflective map. The ceiling texture seems to be massive reduced in resolution. I say seems to be, because I never really noticed it before and I can't remember if it's always been like that :v: A purple square can be seen to the bottom left of the light in Nimble's room, on the wall. Slight problem with reflective map of floor on Skadovsk on part of the outside. Seems to be an issue with a floor decal when dynamic light from the player is shone on it. There seems to be minor corruption on all the human NPC models. They are a significant chunk of the total texture size, so they'll probably need to be manually optimised, as with the aforementioned exceptions. [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] Quite a few reflective map errors in Owl's place. I'm thinking all the reflective maps either need to be exempted, or optimised manually; they seem to be the most prone to corruption, second to UI.

These few picture sum up the errors i've encountered so far. Thankfully they come from only 2 sources; reflective maps and UI. This greatly simplifies the process of solving it. UI can be exempted (indeed I shouldn't have included them in the first place, as I remember from my Skyrim days that they're specifically exempted), and reflective maps probably can, as well (though it might be worth seeing if they can be optimised by hand). At the end of the day, one should still save at least 300mb with this solution, though I feel more testing may still be needed. Decided to install LURK 1.1. Game crashes right after i launch it without error. No loading screen, any solutions?
Holy shit, that Top-5 posters.
Damn, late as shit, but how haven't I gotten up there?
Out of curiosity, what does stack trace exactly mean? I used to play CoP with MSO and AtmosFear and after about 30 zone days, my game started crashing with that reason. It also happened after a little while with TFW in Clear Sky.
It means so many things listing what it is or is not would be a waste of time as nobody could be able to complete the list.

Odd, none of the textures exhibit corruption when opened in Photoshop. [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] OH wait, wrong folder :v: [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] This is worse than I thought; going through the folder, there's quite a few textures with errors that aren't limited to the 2 previous categories. If too many of them are fucked, might have to go through by hand after all.
Is there a way to prevent stack trace errors? I have a feeling that in MSO and TFW it was because too much AI was being simulated but I don't enough about the engine to make a conclusion like that.
