S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians
Biggest bullshit I ever heard.
The most profitable and valuable items are now an utter trash?
Then what's the point of living in the Zone? I mean, this is the main reason for stalkers to stay - making money from gathering artifacts.
gj Misery, lore-unfriendly mod #1
Gotta agree with this, even if it is for "gameplay" reasons.
best pageking
"We found headshotting too easy so we made an armor system that makes no sense in gameplay or realism sense"
"We found artifacts too easy to make money out of so we made them heavy as fuck and not even that expensive"
Really, I want to ask you Misery devs if you got the same objective you've striving for? The mod seems like a clusterfuck of ideas varying from realism to challenge to lorebreaking sillyness.
Not to mention jets are unnecessary and would serve no purpose in The Zone.
The only reason I could imagine a jet or an airplane in general flying over the zone would be air recon for ground troops (like the military or mercs), but that does sound highly unlikely. Also I don't think the zone would be very suitable for Air vehicles since Air-Anomalies exist. If I remember correctly Stingray 5 got hit by an air-anomaly.
Doesn't the Zone airspace have anomalies that fuck them up?
Unlike the helicopters, jets would probably fly high enough that they wouldn't be touched by the anomaly fields so that wouldn't necessarily contradict the lore.
The only reason I could imagine a jet or an airplane in general flying over the zone would be air recon for ground troops (like the military or mercs), but that does sound highly unlikely.
Yeah, they would be prohibitively expensive to fly around and satellites would do their job much more cost-effectively especially since the Zone (even the expanded one seen in the games) is not a huge landmass, the actual hot-spot around the Zone where stuff happens is probably ranging from 30 to 50 square kilometers and even that's being generous.
Artifacts are meant to be the most valuable thing in the Zone right?
If they are it sure as hell isn't really represented in any of the vanilla games. Your regular, often-found artifacts range from 750 to 2500 RU and especially in SoC it's easier to farm guns for profit because while you can't carry as many they're a reliable source of income unlike artifacts that are only randomly spawned. In Clear Sky you'll easily burn the artifacts' worth of money into suit repairs and medkits / bandages that you consumed while hunting for those artifacts. It's only in CoP where artifacts actually return a huge profit and it's worthwhile to sell them (Beard's artifact orders) but the economy becomes completely trivial as a result. If you want to make the economy scarce or at least something that matters at all then you have to either make compromises in terms of "realism" when it comes to the economy or create huge, artificial money sinks to balance the income you get from artifacts and weapons that get hauled in.

I gotta agree with this one. Realism isn't making everything harder. In reality 1 Bullet to the head should kill an opponent. Making enemies more resistant to headshots despite them not wearing any protection is exactly the contrary of this, and makes it somewhat unrealistic.
Giving them more health and more resistance is just making them more difficult, but not realistic. Stalker did the difficulty part right.

Honestly, I think the MDT suffer from a "too many chefs in the kitchen" problem. There really seems to be a serious conflict of design choices with the end result being "Throw it all in the pot and call it goulash". I appreciate their work, I really do, but ehhhhhhh.
Also OGSE is too hardcore for me, those turrets, those fucking turrets. Now that my boss is being held on suspicion of terrorism, I have too much free time, so new version of the OL modpack it is! I need to get my SoC on.

Seriously, use a fucking VOG-25 grenade launching device. One direct hit blows them up, the turrets aren't hard. I don't understand the complaints about those things.
alll hail to glorious Redux 2!
and gunslinger..

I struggled to get anything more than a Makarov! The Stalker I'm meant to save to get my starting gear dies every fucking time. I'm not deriding the mod, but I just don't have the skills!

iirc all the stingrays got hit by air anomalies because they didn't realise they moved after a blowout, meaning their maps were wrong
iirc all the stingrays got hit by air anomalies because they didn't realise they moved after a blowout, meaning their maps were wrong
Didn't one or get shot down by a Gauss Rifle?
That was what the surviving soldiers suspected happened to the helis, but it was in fact the anomalies.
[editline]Edit[/editline]
"• Decreased overall RAM consumption with 100 MB
• Lag and stutter reduction due to file optimization"
Did the Misery team use that DDSopt tool that I was playing around with a while back? If so, nice.

At least one was shot down from a gauss rifle iirc
Going paintballing today in an old abandoned Russian factory/warehouse. It'll be rainbow stalker for me, bitches.

Don't forget to issue the menacing Bandit battle-cry.

I guess you need to play the soup for 5 months and then go back to OGSE.

In my OGSE game I got lucky pretty early because the military attacked the Cordon outpost and wounded Wolf who had some AK-SVD hybrid. I stole that and killed most of the military.

I don't disagree! I haven't mustered the courage to delve into People/Stalkersoup. Someday I will, and on that day I will truely be a man, forged in the fires of Russian madness. For now, it's back to LURK I suppose!
IMO Stalkersoup isn't really that hard, but I just arrived at X18, and I guess it will be a really long way to go.
Quick question about the SOUP. On the map I see a fuckload of new areas. Are they all used for the main Questline or are they optional?
Well time to get back into TFW again. I hope I don't get fucked over again by constant crashing after making a small bit of progress.

I've only gotten to talking to the Guide as far as the main quest goes. It broke there as he didn't accept any Groza i gave him. No, they're for show or side quests AFAIK.
"hello commander, operation stingray was a great success. all the helicopters blew the fuck up and crashed and we haven't heard of any survivors also our agent we sent in sent us pigeon mail asking why the rarest and most dangerous wonders on earth are selling for the worst prices imaginable. i believe it is time we send in jets. things can only get better from here."
Also, what? Artifacts now sell for 30% less?
What the fuck are the Misery balance guys thinking.
[sp]Oh, now I remember. MMO-tier gearchecks and extensive beta testing.[/sp]

I just thought of something: raiding the CNPP while this is playing would be great.

Just kill all the bad guys in rapid succession or reload the game. Extra points if STALKERSOUP.

Replace gas mask with chicken mask. Make the drop weapon key throw your gun at lethal forces.
I'd play it.

Hotline Ukraine?
Can someone tell me how to edit the sprint for CoP?
I downloaded Reloaded, which is working very smoothly for me. But a blowout came, and I couldn't even run to cover without running out of sprint. If I didn't have meds I would have died.
I'm not even over the max carry limit, or close to it at all.

By sprint you mean speed or endurance?

Even if you're not carrying much, your sprint will run out after a while.
To counter this you could drink some Energy drink, or have an endurance artifact.
