S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians
I really ask myself how we could let this happen. How I could let this happen :v: I myself HATE it when people do this, really. I've tasted vanilla of all 3 games several times, making sure i got everything the dev's want me to get BEFORE modding the damn game(s).
So, is there someone who is experience with GIF images? I want to make something for on the MISERY mainpage. The width will be 950px and the height 200px. It will be 2 images with 1 saying:"First time visiting the zone? Be sure to play it without mods first and taste the ice without adding sprinkles!" and the second one to be like the dead stalker on the ground in the FP .gif image saying:"Or end up like this".
IMHO best idea yet, should've done this before.
Now if ~artistpavel~ were to do the same, the STALKER community would become full circle.
Still, it's nice to see that most modders acknowledge this issue and the benefits playing vanilla gives to the gaming experience as a whole.
I like to see rookie stalkers complaining about "bugs" and "crashes".
Finished all 3 games on release (unpatched) without gamebreaking bugs and CTD.
Only had corrupted save in CS once.

I got a very nasty recurring crash in unpatched ShoC.
unpatched master-race
would play again, also, it seemed as if the A-life in the unpatched game was unrestricted I remember lots of strange stalkers walking around that I never saw in 1,0004 or above.
10005 patch for shoc removed grass shadows -_- I am updating to 06 soon as i want to try out OGSE

Even Clear Sky ? Well dang it, I thought it was impossible to beat Clear Sky unpatched, the game would always freeze for me at the part where you [sp]get mugged by bandits[/sp]. The freeze repeated for me every time until 1.5.07 but the game was still really, really glitchy and crashy.

Military stalkers (I mean ones with SKAT-9M armor) at Cordon, I take it ?
[editline]herp[/editline]
Yeah, and random mixed such as exo suited stalkers chilling in the rookie village, strange shit man.
I take it that was in the really late game ? Shadow of Chernobyl seems to free up the A-Life a lot when you do major things in the story like going through labs and especially when you disable the scorcher you start to see things like military moving through Army Warehouses and the aforementioned military stalkers at the Cordon. It seemed more unrestricted in the unpatched version for me too but even in patch 1.005 strange spawns can occur like for instance earlier this year a squad of 5 mercenaries came through to the Cordon via the Cordon-Garbage level changer. The game really finds a lot of ways to surprise the player in terms of spawns and A-Life behaviour. I don't recall seeing exoskeleton stalkers in the Cordon though.

In between an intermittent crash or two you would get really obscure spawns regardless of game progress. It seemed that to improve performance in the game they must have pulled back the A-Life through the patches.
I swear to god this is frustrating. Every enemy faction squad or base I assault has loners in it so I can't just grenade mortar it to death. Instead I have to very carefully ID my targets and then keep calm while systematically avoiding fire behind cover and assblasting everything to oblivion with my OP shotgun skills. What makes it even worse is that Duty is stretched out like the NCR of New Vegas. There's just not enough troops to cover Agroprom, Yantar, Garbage AND Cordon without more resource nodes. I have no backup and have to sacrifice border control to take over this base. I thought of grabbing Dark Valley from the bandits since it has two resource nodes, but then a very central hub of Duty's territory, the Garbage would be assaulted from both north and south by Defiance and Freedom respectively, which are essentially the only factions capable of standing against Duty and not get utterly skullfucked.
Freedom has tons of G-36 GoF troops and Defiance has Vintorezs and Grozas. Snipers have moist nuggets so that's not an issue but I'm waiting until one drops a TRG. I've ordered a Clear Sky Exo with some fucking lucky placement to have encountered the Nimble of TFW, some bandit that sells shit for crazy prices. Right now I'm saving up to pay that bulk amount of 78 000 rubles. Currently sitting around 75 000, but if I manage to clear out the Defiance base it's a guaranteed 100K or so.
Duty will prevail, I'm sure of it. Can't wait to see the exo Dutiers roll out.

Unpatched Clear Sky. Red Forest during night. At 2AM.
Have... Fun...
[sp]enjoy being royally fucked by psi-dog and his 30+ clones[/sp]
Duty? Pah, may the zone take them.
We Clear Sky are sturdy in our resolve and will stand any assault.
Does anyone know if it's possible for pseudogiants to spawn in the Wild Territory in SoC? It's my favorite location because of the whole mutant horde that comes in randomly. I just find it really fun to see entire squads of stalkers get wiped out in a matter of seconds.
Unpatched Clear Sky. Red Forest during night. At 2AM.
I could only dream of reaching Red Forest. I had multiple accounts of a "fun" glitch where the game would despawn the level of NPCs because of a blowout but then not spawn them back in so it would in "best" scenario just make me unable to trade there and in the worst case stop the game right then and there because a plot-important character despawned and did not come back.
But even in patch 1.5.07 I remember such joys being had at Yantar when the zombie spawning was totally out of control and the laboratory would stay in zombie control for ingame days because no loners spawned to recapture the place, the zombies were bullet-spongy as ever and any loners who did respawn would just get chewed up by the horde.

[del]To my knowledge not in Vanilla.[/del] Poltergeists do occasionally appear there though.
[editline]herp[/editline]
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wiki says that they can appear in Wild Territory but they're very rare. Huh.

I thought Clear Sky were supposed to be nice guys
I thought Clear Sky were supposed to be nice guys
I suppose they are like the quiet kid in the classroom, you could bully them and one day he jumps out the seat and snaps your neck.

I don't think Duty would even care about Clear Sky.
I thought Clear Sky were supposed to be nice guys
The nice guys with armour that could stop a bull elephant in its tracks.
Fat lot of good it did them, though.
I don't think Duty would even care about Clear Sky.
They are never shown conversing though, but in a war for land and resources like TFW? Yeah I think they would take notice of the small broken faction that sent 90% of its men to the center.

Technically TFW isn't canon however.
Technically TFW isn't canon however.
Eh, you are right as much as I would like it to be cannon it isn't, it does fill that gap in the story quite nicely though.

Old but gold :v:
Somebody should make a Max Payne pop-up dialogue picture of this.

Does it still crash? That was the reason I suggested it.
In all those years where I played Stalker I finally came to the conclusion that the inventory management is really great. Especially when it's a bit modded. The interface works really well for most part and the limited weight adds a new layer of depth and challenge to the game.
It's nice to prepare yourself for a trip or mission and try to minimize the amount of weight that you carry in order to grab some loot along the way.
Heh, funny thing is that I only partially completed CoP before installing misery. I got to pripyat, but didnt do much there, and havent completed any farther. I know what happens though.

How could you?
Pripyat is pretty awesome in CoP, I really enjoyed that part even if it can be a bit empty at times. The last few missions were a blast to play.
Why wouldn't you finish the game? You only had like maybe 3-5 hours left
Got bored of it/interested in a different game
