Lol at the last part "without fucking with the balance or adding mountains of guns. Is L.U.R.K. a valid choice?" No, my good sir. I'd say, try a texture pack in combination with the darker nights mod :) I could recommend you my texture pack but It always feels cheap, but here you go: www.moddb.com/mods/photo-realistic-zone-2
Yeah, L.U.R.K is pretty much the opposite of what he wanted.
Beac my dear where were you today on Skype
Seems you two have a talent for bad timing
Anyone have any opinions on Paradise Lost 4.3.1? Or a link?
Can anyone recommend me a good Clear Sky mod that balances the game and add some stuff, but nothing to fancy?
Beac my dear where were you today on Skype
you messaged me just as I was out getting a haircut and were gone when I returned :P I'm away now till Sunday

Installing misery. Gives you an FOV choice. Already a massive thumbs up here. [editline]27th August 2013[/editline] Does my class mean I can't use another type of weapon well?

[editline]27th August 2013[/editline] Does my class mean I can't use another type of weapon well?
I'm honestly not sure how hard the classes affect weapons/gear. I was able to use a sniper rifle, etc more or less fine as a Recon.
I have a 7970 so it should've been more than enough, but clear sky + absolute nature, absolute structures and atmosfear is running at a really bad framerate (I'd say around 20). Any ideas why?
get 13.8 Beta drivers, overclock your 7970 to 1100/1600 if you can. You should have no issues what so ever, I can run BF3 with everything maxed out on stock clocks and no dip below 60FPS, even when playing 64 player maps.

I see no need for myself to really get them until it's pushed out of Beta. (Sapphire HD 7870 GHz Edition GPU)

Just trust me on this one mane. But that was an hour ago so you probs already made your decision.

damn reminds me of a couple user made anomalies i once saw for CS. in other news, Loner1, you dont want to make an AmeriMerc angry, you have three weeks to give me the wizard rifle. edited: i'm kidding take your time! edited: three days, you have the arrow on the door.
The 13.4 RC drivers are wayyy out of date, the 13.8's have been improved in both stability, performance.
Is Way to Pripyat worth playing? Speaking of which does anyone have the links for it? I know there's a patch or something for the English version too.

[editline]27th August 2013[/editline] How am I supposed to repair guns myself? [editline]27th August 2013[/editline] Holy fuck do firefights in this get so much more intense than normal stalker. pretty good mod. the prices for items in the shops are just so ridiculous though [editline]27th August 2013[/editline] wait what the fuck, i'm getting shot through walls and floors all over the place by AI that can see me before they see me. what is this
Is it me or is the AI in Lurk absolutely horrible, they are pretty accurate but at times they just walk straight to you without shooting. Furthermore it's really easy to sneak around them.
Is there any way to skip the Cordon/Swamps in SGM 2.2? They're tedious as hell and the hard-on the devs have for random anomalies make it frustrating and even more tedious to move around in them.

I've been playing around with writing some stalker fiction, and I thought I'd share a little excerpt with you and hear what you all think. I want to explore some elements of the Zone that I think are understated or forgotten in most stalker stories, and are fairly well represented in the Metro series. I am referring to the spiritual side of things. As appropriate as ghosts and such are in Metro, I think they honestly have better justification in the Zone, as well as being quite fitting. None of that for you all yet, but if you like this, maybe you'll see more of Misha the reporter.
“Look here Reporter, are you sure this is what you want? The Zone is packed with danger as much as it is full of riches. It is a dark and strange place. If you go, you likely will not come back, but if you do, you will be changed by what happened to you there. Do not take my words lightly, as many skeptics do. Death is not the worst fate you might find in the Zone, only the most common.” As Misha crawled on his hands and knees, those words echoed in his head. Red had warned him that just before ducking into the tunnel. He was a trafficker, one of the few people willing to smuggle people past the military cordon into the Zone. When Misha had ducked after the trafficker, the tunnel had been only so low he needed to stoop, but now he had to crawl and drag his pack behind him. How far down the tunnel were they? Seven hours had passed since they left behind a cellar to go down the damp, earthen tunnel. The only sound in the stale air was that of labored breathing. Red kept a swift pace, even on all fours. Eventually the tunnel began to slope upward. That was hours after Red had forced a stop to rest. The tunnel had grown so small by that point Misha thought he would suffocate if the trafficker slept too long. Misha wasn’t sure how long they spent in that pitch, suffocating black. He nearly didn’t notice when they finally emerged, but the full moon was unblocked by clouds, shining pale pricks of light through tangled brambles to illuminate the dimness. Cautiously, he lifted his body from the dirt, until he felt thorns against his back. He crawled on hands and knees, but he gulped in the cold night air. No air had ever tasted so sweet. The hedge dipped into a small ditch after a while. Eventually a cloud passed across the moon, just as the ditch began to deepen. The effect was gradual, but after a while Misha was ducking low on his feet behind Red and dragging his pack behind him. At first, Misha had welcomed the cold wind after so long in the still, stale tunnel, but as the wind grew his muscles began to ache in ways Misha had never thought possible and each growing gust sent a deeper chill into his bones. How much farther? The bramble ceiling began to sink. Soon Misha was back to dragging his belly on the ground. The ditch opened up underneath the monstrous bramble. They were in a small pond bed. Misha could see Red’s silhouette searching in a corner. “We eat, then rest here during the day. We continue tomorrow night.” Misha sat against the ditch wall, and fumbled with his pack. The cold numbed his fingers, making them clumsy. Just as he pulled a surplus military ration from his pack, a light blossomed with the sound of flint against steel. A dim orange glow swelled, making Misha squint. “Put that away, I include this meal for you, pro bono publico,” he said with a quiet chuckle. He hung a small iron pot by a tripod over our little fire, and began producing things from his bag. He withdrew a can of soup, some hard black sausages, and two loaves of bread. Using a large knife he punched through the lid, cutting it away from the can to pour its contents into the pot. He cut the sausages, plopping piece after piece into the pot, but his eyes never left Misha. “The Zone is going to chew you up and eat you.” His rough voice held no anger; it was a low murmur foretelling the future. “When the first stalkers came to the Zone, the military estimated their average lifespans in day, and then weeks. They had no experience of the Zone, didn’t know the danger, and didn’t bring the right kit. Guns were rarely found on stalkers found by military patrols. By the second year the stalkers brightened up. Rarely became always, a few began wearing gas masks, and the military estimates grew to months. Slowly they learned how to prepare themselves better for the Zone. Even four years after the Second Expansion, the military estimates most stalkers never survive past a year. They die of hunger, exposure, and sickness nearly as often as animals, monsters, their brothers, or the Zone takes them. As for the rest, only about a third of them do survive. They’re the tough ones. They’re the hard hearted, lest the Zone break them. They’re the ones who fought against the Zone’s pull, trying to drag them under, sucking them down as they clawed over their friends and cast down their enemies to appease the Zone’s hunger for souls. Those are the men that have struggled, scrounged, fought down to tooth and nail… and they have survived. What does that tell you?” Misha sat silent, studying the steaming stew bubble over the fire. When he had decided to write a story covering the Zone, to follow up on the stories of so-called “anomalies” in the ecological disaster, this was not what he had expected. After reaching Kiev, Misha had managed to make some underground contacts that were willing to talk about the Zone. He listened to a hundred strange tales, until one night he heard a tale that changed his mind. He was a grubby man with a small wrapped package, who demanded Misha buy him vodka for the story. His story was no less outlandish than the rest, but when he finished he beckoned Misha closer. Misha leaned forward until he could smell the liquor on the man’s breath. In his hands was the package. He peeled back part of the wrapper that revealed it was around a large mason jar and inside… Inside was something small that emitted a dancing golden light that seemed to pulse with life, but as soon as Misha saw it, the wrapper was back over the jar. Perhaps Misha looked cowed, because Red spoke as he ladled stew into two trenchers he dug out of the bread loaves. “Don’t fret now. Old Red here has friends in the Zone that’ll help take care of you if I put in a good word. Tomorrow I’ll take you past the reach of the daily patrols. You’ll be ten kilometers from the Old Cordon. The military still uses the stations, but they only patrol beyond the horizon about once a week there. Four kilometers south of the Old Cordon, and four kilometers east from the road you’ll find a cabin. When I leave you, you’ll be almost three kilometers east from the road. You should make it. Wait there and someone will come take you to see Sid. He’s lived in the Zone for nearly a decade, so that should tell you how hard he is, and he’s twice as cunning too, but he’s a good business man and usually keeps his word. Now dig in, this is the last feast you’ll have for a while.”
"I don't give a fuck, but call a chiropractor just in case." Or, that's what I'd say at least.
Sergei seem to have gotten very suspicious of others ever since the guys pushed him into the whilrwind. Some would say that he always had a pair of eyes on his back.
Speaking of that, Sergei Grigorovich needs to be pushed into a whirligig anomaly.
wait what the fuck, i'm getting shot through walls and floors all over the place by AI that can see me before they see me. what is this
Kinda late here but everyone having this problem should go to game options and turn off Hardcore AI aim, it really fucks things up.

I remember playing one of those batshit insane Russian mods for Clear Sky, where you start with nothing but a half-broken pistol and no ammo. The next task is to deal with full-exo-VSS-SPAS mercs. It was unfair but still doable, cause you can sneak up their arses and take out at least half the camp before getting spotted. On other hand I had Misery with makacock termibandits.
Is there a mirror or torrent for AMK Sidorovich Edition, for some reason I can't find a good site to download it. The one on Moddb is broken.
