You're awesome [Green]. So I am not alone after all, there is still hope in this with-windows-8-infected world!

I was actually joking about how the grass looks very similar to XP's default background. I'm using W7 :v::v::v:
I'll give you a little tip. At the lower left corner of a user's post there are icons. If you hover over them right at the corner there they tell you generally speaking what OS, browser and stuff they're using.

But muh windows 8 transfers files faster than 7 for large mods and shit which is good because i'm using a slower spinning HDD.

If the price>space ratio ever improves i'll be upgrading to a SSD asap.
Having a slower spinning HDD ain't good for recording :/

That's true, I am waiting for reliable good and cheap 512GB SSD's though, only STALKER and some 3D / 2D programs are on it + Os

Lovin the horrible framerate, makes it a real joy to watch.
I wish there was a mod for SoC that makes it so different armors change your viewmodel arm, I love that in CS and CoP.

If I have understood correctly, LURK 1.2 is seeking to implement that kind of feature.
It's a shame so many of the more polished, bigger mods are for SoC. If we could just merge all the content from the other games into CoP plus those huge mods we'd probably have the perfect STALKER game.

Less is often more when it comes to mods.

Agreed. I like when mods add in content but it's much better when said content is of consistent quality and it comes together to form a coherent mod where all elements are thought out properly. I mean, there's a certain charm to those weird community compilations for SoC but the amount of content alone doesn't mean it's automatically good.

Well it's been out for much longer and modders are more comfortable with SoC's mod tools but there are many mods in the works for CoP as well.

Oh god, this video brings tears to my eyes.
It feels sad to see how massively they butchered the game.
Dead City, Swamps, Generators, Old Garbage, full CNPP and other huge maps.
This is the only thing I can't forgive to GSC.

Talk about being disillusioned after reading a preview on a magazine and then buying the game to find out how actually it is.
Do you remember the "AI was so smart it finished missions/the game before player" or something like that?

That's what I'm talking about. Lots of cool things wee scrapped.
Older builds as best proof.

It was less the A.I being super intelligent or capable but more of thing where they gather clues leading them to solve the mystery of the Zone on their own - it's not that hard to design given their existing A-Life simulation but what the GSC explained in their Clear Sky video is that they found that the fully A-Life driven world they had created was hard to get working consistently because sometimes it would be very boring or nothing happened and other times it created some very interesting situations so they saw it best to give the game a controlled story backbone and make the A-Life support it.

Here they talk about some stuff about their game's design principles (not just Clear Sky but some SoC stuff too) and the relation of A-Life driven gameplay to more 'controlled' one and their desire to gradually shift toward a more and more A-life driven gameplay. Too bad there's no "making of Call of Pripyat" at least yet anyway because it would be interesting to hear how GSC felt that they had achieved some of their A-Life related goals when they had arrived to that game. And honestly, I think that while CoP had some limitations like stalkers not being able to cross between the three levels the idea and execution of a freer, more A-Life driven gameplay where you're allowed more framework to investigate and explore opportunities yourself without the game directing you everywhere directly was realized rather well.
I'll never understand why people consider CS to be the bastard child of GSC. Modders tend to ignore it (except for TFW), people tend to skip over it, and it generally doesn't have as an approval rating as the other games.
Despite that, it broke a lot of ground and paved the way for CoP's gameplay. Dunno, just seems really odd that the general consensus for it is negative, all things considered.
I've not played it in ages but I remember the game pissing me off for some reason. Wasn't too keen on the swamp starting area and if I remember right when I played it vanilla on Master the armor was made out of rice paper and disintegrated after you got hit 3-4 times.
Someone please correct me but Clear Sky is my least favourite of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games.
1) Shadow of Chernobyl
2) Call of Pripyat
3) Clear Sky
Imo anyway.

It's old reputation as a horribly crashy clusterfuck probably lived on to the point where people who have never played it are repeating what others say about it oblivious of the fact that the 1.5.10 patch made the game much more stable (though Limansk and CNPP still suffer from crashiness and save corruption. Some of the other things I can think of though is how many of the maps are very inactive in terms of A-Life or Faction Wars after you clear them and the fact that while the Faction Wars have an interesting premise, the Faction War you wage for Freedom and Duty are kind of disappointing in contrast to the more interesting dynamic of the Bandit / Loner / Digger conflict where you have the standard tug-of-war waged across the maps but there are also some small quests to make it just a tad more interesting - I think that having some missions where you take out enemy faction's smugglers or assassinate their leaders / take out the faction's sympathizers in false flag guerrilla operations in the fringe maps would've made it much more intriguing than it currently stands, especially how the enemy faction just straight up respawns after you kill them. TFW made the Faction Wars more fun but there's only a scant few mods that even try to address the problems in the main game and even those tend to focus on showing off new graphics stuff. In the end though, it's still a good game, just not what a lot of people expected after SoC - while I would agree with those people that Clear Sky is lacking in some of the stuff that makes S.T.A.L.K.E.R. such a unique type of experience it's still a solid experience and I like that each of the games tries to hit it's own "niche" instead of all of them being in the exact same format. If GSC had had more time to develop Clear Sky and implement at least some of the actually new maps into them game as well as making Limansk a less linear more exploration-friendly area I think that CS would've been at least equal to the other two in popularity.

it's glitchy, the balancing is wonky, one of the main gameplay mechanics is broken due to dumb AI, bad ballistics, too many fucking grenades, bad optimization......
the only good thing about it is that a) you can join bandits and cheeki breeki
and b) that it has all the old ShoC maps with the fancy new graphics

It's just not very good compared to SoC. It was the first stalker I played through and I'm not sure how I managed, tried it with complete, reloaded, and whatevers and it just felt so awfully boring. The moment you get to Cordon was enough for me, that fucking stupid machinegun is such bullshit.
Also I remember the story parts of the game being utter garbage.

I hate Clear Sky because it's got a bullshit difficulty. You start the game having dodge super accurate heavy machine gun fire from the military which kills you almost instantly! An asshole with a pistol can kill you in a few hits from a kilometer away and if it's a dude with a shotgun you'll probably bleed to death. And that's only on the second difficulty setting! And it's still just as shit on the easiest difficulty setting too!

This.
Plus the MQ in Clear Sky was so lacking in pacing aside from one part it made the game extremely frustrating to get through.
"Hey, you just killed these 40 guys at this construction site? Let's go kill 80 more guys in the village ahead, and then 40 more guys in the tunnels ahead, 30 more after that, and finish the game with an all out war!"

Yeah...
There were two of them

I mostly avoid it because of the bad balance. It's also got the roughest start of any of the STALKER games; neither SoC or CoP give me as much frustration as CS does in the Swamp. It's a shame, because the Swamp is a really cool area, but it's full of annoying crap like radioactive water and shortages of medical items mean you're constantly bleeding out during fights.

And you know what the kicker is? Nobody makes a mod to fix the balance they make mods to make it harder. Like how the fuck can you make it harder than it already is!?
