;42305325']Nah man, this marks the time of a new era for the true Zone. It will have a chance of recovering from the radiation that's plagued it for so long. To me the greatest shame is if Ukraine decides to rehabit Chernobyl's exclusion Zone properly one day. It's a beautiful area to visit. Perhaps they could arrange it into like the largest radioactive park in the world?
It's already essentially a huge nature reserve, with time it could be done into a totally amazing park, with guided tours and exhibitions explaining various things about the disaster, along with accounts from people who evacuated and the like.

That's the depressing irony of the situation: but more interesting and beautiful a place is, the more likely other people are going to want to visit, ruining in part its beauty. One of the great things about this sort of place is the solitude, the feeling of a genuine connection with a place, which is shattered if you're just Bus #44 booked into a hour-long guided tour of Yanov with complementary drinks and a novelty keychain.

Who did you go with, Beac? SoloEast? Did they show you that documentary on the way there? [editline]25th September 2013[/editline] Also, my PC is working again! Time to get on the Misery 2.0 train about 3 weeks late!
@Beac Feel my jealousy ... damn. @The rest Seriously advise people to look at this guys channel, he posts some interesting stuff http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZWcX_cX-xSPRysHnfIRRPg/videos
Why are so many people modding CoP? Can SHoC not get some love? :(
Why are so many people modding CoP? Can SHoC not get some love? :(
They are both great but I believe CoP has more capability and support. Better starting point.
I hope better doesn't mean easier. :(
LURK and OGSE.
LURK = fuck knows when that will be done. I'm putting it in the same pile as Lost Alpha. OGSE = Not heard of it, checking now. :D
oh my god that was the best day ever go on a fucking private tour [editline]25th September 2013[/editline] [t]http://i.imgur.com/dWbcbcs.jpg[/t] [editline]25th September 2013[/editline] that is about 1/10th of how awesome today was
Thats seriously one of the best pictures I've ever seen of the zone. You can see Pripyat, The CNPP, and the Duga 3 array along with a lot country side. 10/10 Beac
It's amazing how dense the trees are
I might just say fuck it, install RELOADED, and play CoP again. All because of that image.
I might just say fuck it, install RELOADED, and play Clear Sky again. All because of that image.
ftfy
I only have CoP...
in total for the transport, tours and accommodation at chernobyl, 870 USD [editline]25th September 2013[/editline] uploading photos and doing blog stuff now, will report back in a bit
now just gotta add airfare to that thought i imagine kiev isn't quite a hotspot this time of year
How does Clear Sky compare to Cop and ShoC? Thinking of picking it up next steam sales.
Why are so many people modding CoP? Can SHoC not get some love? :(
I am modding 3 SHoC mods at the moment, where as 2 are serious works and 1 is a wizardry mod for the fun of it.
He's the author of Sky Anomaly mod.
I know he is, we talked and exchanged particles :)
It's amazing how dense the trees are
Indeed. I wish LA is going to be like this. I really hope it will be a great platform to further develop levels on because of the improved engine. I can already see amazingly dense 1:1 levels of Pripyat made by the modding community. Imagine Pripyat 1:1 scale with lush vegetation and anomalies lurking in the shadows! My dream :)
How does Clear Sky compare to Cop and ShoC? Thinking of picking it up next steam sales.
I think it doesn't compare. CS was (for me) a clusterfuck of ideas poured into 1 thing. The quest bombardment really put me off of it, but, with some mods it's a quite good game. Doesn't compare to SHoC's atmosphere or CoP's visuals though. Also, for the rest, another cool mod you might want to look at. Hope it gets released though; http://www.moddb.com/mods/borscht That release date isn't right ... I hope. Yes, it's kind of like http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl And for you weapon freaks like me; http://www.moddb.com/mods/arsenal-overhaul
How does Clear Sky compare to Cop and ShoC? Thinking of picking it up next steam sales.
On a Steam sale, you pretty much can't go wrong. I'll admit it's probably the weakest of the three overall, but it has some really good adaptations of the different areas and the factions are fun to play with. Way more fun with TFW, but still pretty fun.

Time to get on the Misery 2.0 train about 3 weeks late!
Yep! Haha yeah, along with the ridiculous music videos right at the start! The documentary is brilliant, it's probably my favourite of all of them.
Thats seriously one of the best pictures I've ever seen of the zone. But yeah, that view was just astonishing. I have loads of photos from up there that I'll upload. The climb up there was awesome, 16 stories of ruined soviet staircase with interesting stuff on every floor, and then wobbly flimsy metal ladder-stairs up to the roof hatch which had just been 'blown' open.
It's amazing how dense the trees are
That is the thing that every single representation of the Zone in games gets wrong. It is so dense in that city, you can only ever see 1-3 apartments at once of the entire city, and you can't even walk down the main roads properly as they're just forests. Pripyat in CoP for example is just totally wrong, as nice as it looks. I don't know how to describe just how dense the vegetation is there in real life.
Pripyat in CoP for example is just totally wrong, as nice as it looks. I don't know how to describe just how dense the vegetation is there in real life.
Can't wait for Redux 2.
Can't wait for Redux 2.
Me neither, but I won't be making a more realistic vegetation Pripyat in Redux, it would be way too taxing for most PCs. Maybe another mod ;) [editline]26th September 2013[/editline] also we went to the mofuckin' book store tours aren't allowed there ;)
I didn't see these in here so [t]http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/9513/119491390.1/0_d6778_1613b263_orig.jpg[/t] [t]http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/6708/119491390.1/0_d6779_205a49ac_orig.jpg[/t]
That's the depressing irony of the situation: but more interesting and beautiful a place is, the more likely other people are going to want to visit, ruining in part its beauty
I'd kind of disagree with that because it's the unguided and "self-authorized" tourists that have been contributing the most to "ruining" the place by stealing objects for "souvenirs", spraying graffiti all over and up to and including destroying monuments by using them as targets for shooting. At least with guided tours people can be stopped short if they litter or do any of those unwanted activities.
How does Clear Sky compare to Cop and ShoC?
It's a good shooter and on the surface it seems to have the things inherent to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-series but the system it replaces the SoC / CoP A-Life simulation with makes the majority of the maps incredibly static, almost to the point where you can pretty much say that there's nothing going on in the map unless it's an active part of the Faction War system and that takes a sledgehammer to the replay value of the game. Then again if you just like to breeze through the missions it's an entertaining romp that should hold you over until you're done with it. Then you can get some extra replay value with the TFW mod which scraps the story and focuses on Faction Wars / Freeplay.
;42313258']Did you find a Monolith antennae and pray to your Stone and Savior?
Unfortunately not, but we did visit the monument to the friendship of the peoples that was just across the road! It's almost hidden by forest now :(
Pripyat could do with a tree surgeon or two Barkeep is looking pretty mysterious today
