I've been meaning to play through OGSE in the holidays
I've been playing Last Light an I was wondering, what if Sergei sold the rights to the STALKER IP to 4A? A merging of Metro and STALKER mechanics with STALKER like open levels and Metro like attention to detail? It would be amazing
yes it is confirmed that steam patch the game to 10006 found this on spuf http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1426007&page=2 (post number 19)
Every mod I installed including Stalker Soup ran just fine, but they didn't have to modify any particular DLL's as far as I know. I guess I'll use Hispano Patcher for the first time! Nevermind, Hispano Patcher thinks my install is 1.0005. It allows me to install 1.0006 and 1.0004 but not 1.0005. Whyyyyyyy.
I hate to be "that guy" but I'm thinking of playing SoC and don't know which mods to install. My eyes just glaze over when I start to read mod lists. I've played and finished it only once, way back in 2008, on a budget PC on low settings. I've now got an AMD 7950, so I reckon I can afford to pimp the graphics a bit. So... from the OP, is the Facepunch Starter Pack sufficient? Is there a particular graphics mod I should try? Should I be looking for mods that add particular "features" or are those all shit?
depends how far from vanilla do you want to go. the starter pack is pretty good for going as core vanilla as possible.
Even so, not bad considering you still have to make the actual levels yourself using the assets
exactly, it's quite impressive that he got the terrain of Cordon so close to the game, even if it's not like it is in the real Zone i'd like to make a more realistic depiction of the Zone (in terms of terrain, foliage and locations etc) in CryEngine if I could just figure out how to port the stupid assets over
what if Sergei sold the rights to the STALKER IP to 4A
4A Games would not be a good developer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if the gameplay would be expected to remain the same - they're really good at making focused, linear and detail-rich FPS games with a lot of attention to detail but the thing is, making open levels with the A-Life system in place would mean that you'd have to sacrifice a lot of Metro's attention to detail if you wanted to make the game run in the first place. Adding to that their games show that they don't seem to give a shit about modding (well that's kind of fair, not like you can do much content mods for such a linear experience like Metro) they could make one good game about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but it would lack all the features that make S.T.A.L.K.E.R. really what it is and why it's still played today. In creating an atmosphere fitting the series though, I think they could probably nail it almost perfectly.
I've been trying to get anti-aliasing working for Call of Pripyat for a bit now. I've read that because of CoP's Deferred Rendering system, anti-aliasing is effectively made useless in the options menus, and doesn't do anything when adjusted there. I've tried activating AA manually in the nVidia Control Panel (I have a GTX 660ti), but that doesn't do anything. I've also attempted to edit the user.ltx file to activate that 'fake' AA, under 'r2_aa on/off', but that doesn't seem to work either. Is there any way I can get real AA working in CoP?
supersampling should work if I remember right.

Holy fuck misery 2.0 is hard. Iron forrest had 3 burers 5 bloodsuckers a poltergeist and a bunch of zombies. Not to mention that im now trying to get out at night overloaded and tired while there is a chimera and a pack of dogs roaming around.
I'm very new to the premise of supersampling, but it seemed to do the job just fine, thanks. I just reinstalled Atmosfear for CoP and I'm stunned by how intimidating The Zone is with it, especially in the middle of Blowouts. The sound effects and visuals are amazing, and I really do feel a lot better when I'm cozy in Skadovsk with all the other Stalkers.
considering a lot of them are ex-SoC devs you would imagine they could easily get back to their STALKER roots
Maybe it's possible but I remain skeptical, especially since at this point 4A has 'rebranded' themselves with Metro so their fans and the publishers would expect something like their previous games (the Metro franchise), making a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game where you have open levels and a lot of the excitement comes from the unplanned, ad-hoc situations created by the A-life system but it also leaves a certain downtime between encounters or sometimes the level is almost empty and not many events happen. This is fine in STALKER, this is what we've come to expect and what a lot of us like in the series since the certain degree of unpredictability creates extra replay value. But sometimes the A.I and A-Life in general just cocks up massively and creates situations where you have a dozen stalkers all standing in a corner pointing their guns at something - this isn't something that is only STALKER is guilty of - it happens basically in every open-world game that doesn't instance it's combat but it would be judged very different if it happened in a game made by what is essentially an "AAA" game development company. Then there's the issue of making an open world but also have it be of the same level of detail as Metro which is a nightmare in terms of both managing the resources but it's a considerable strain for the level designers as well - making levels that are open but every which way the player goes the A.I must act accordingly and they must see the same level of detail put to every area they might visit. Not to mention when you can't control the player's pacing like you can do in a very linear experience you can't cut corners in areas you expect the player to get by really quickly. Then there's the question with DLC. I'm not going to rag on 4A for putting DLC into the Metro games, it's more or less an industry standard these days but it's also basically a death sentence for the prospects of 4A's "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." attaining any kind of modding scene.
damn steam and his auto-upgrade mmh i found a guide to downgrade from 10005 to 10004 , maybe this works also for 10006? Give it a try http://www.moddb.com/mods/zone-of-alienation-mod/images/downgrading-your-soc-from-10005-to-10004
That method does work. Open your registry (windows key + R -> regedit). Navigate to: 32bit systems: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC. 64bit systems: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC. If you can't find it there, search for "installvers". If there is no "InstallLang" value located here, you need to add a string and enter the language code you use (for the US version, this is "en"). Install the 1.0004 patch which will install the files into a THQ folder in your Program Files by default. Copy all these files into your STALKER installation's gamedata folder. If you encounter an error saying the patch can only be used for "[en]", then replace the aforementioned language value with whatever is it in the brackets in the error message. Delete gamedata.dbc and gamedata.dbd as these are 1.0006 only files.

Please, yes. I've been waiting so fucking long for at least a goddamn Borz. Chechen weaponry is some seriously kickass shit. Those motherfuckers can turn anything into a gun.

So I'm probably pretty late, but oh well, can't be arsed to search through the thread. In the merge mod, the Groza uses 7.62x39 instead of 9x39. In one of the arena rounds, you're given a Groza. With two magazines of 9x39. So you get to fight six bandits with a knife and a grenade.
