S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

So I just had this discussion with a friend of mine about the next gen consoles and he said this:
You play stalker a lot and you like it a lot. Why do you want it to be PC only? If the developers would expand to next gen consoles people would be able to experience the same (just with a controller) and the franchise would expand
You don't want to know how much I ranted against him about this being the stupidest idea since ever.
It'd be good for expansion.
It'd also make people kill themselves after trying to fight PC reaction AI while using a control scheme comparable to the clunkiness of Arma.

Unless they'd do whatever made Metro Last Light playable on consoles, but I got no idea how they handle aiming in the game.
A console version of STALKER in and itself wouldn't be a horrible idea but I don't like the dangers that are inherent with a PC-only series going multiplatform. During the days of the original Xbox and PS2 they did what I thought was the best solution : make a game for one platform, then later down the line make a version of the game tailor-made for the other platform like Operation Flashpoint(I'm talking about the original one) for the Xbox or Deus Ex for the PS2, taking into account the system's primary control scheme and other issues that may arise from it (like Deus Ex for the PS2 having smaller maps than the PC original). However with a game being multi-platform and releasing at the same time for PC and consoles it's likely that the PC version going to be literally just the same game and like the 2009 Wolfenstein, have the console versions' unwanted additions like slow enemy reaction time and aim assist, non-PC friendly menus and inventory systems (Deus Ex : Human Revolution is particularly guilty of this) and other additions popping up since all the mechanics were designed with the consoles in mind from the get-go.
If the console version did not compromise the gameplay mechanics or the overall design of the game experience and modding of the game on the PC side would remain as easy (or difficult depending on your view) I wouldn't mind a console port for stalker. I still wouldn't buy it or even consider it over the PC one but I don't know if I was so fervently opposed to it.

Honestly, I try to take an objective view. Stalker on consoles, even if it's dumbed down, is a good thing, as long as it doesn't affect the quality of the PC version (and speaking of which, it'd be nice to see it on Mac and Linux). I wouldn't mind at all a PC Stalker that was ported to consoles, but the inverse would be annoying.
stalker on consoles would be dull without modding support

the controls wouldn't work well for a console imo, it would be like putting mount & blade on consoles. that shit just doesn't happen.
also shooters are garbage on consoles everyone knows that

If it was handled the same was as Metro it wouldn't be bad at all.
The inventory system it what would plague it in my mind, just add some radial dials and shit
So, Beac, you said not so interesting ... how about something like this?

I think what we really want is a source.
(And better anti-aliasing. I mean, I'm pretty inured to this stuff by now, but Jesus, those trees look like pointillism.)

True true true ...
I don't think we'll ever get it though :v: Not if they can't make money of us, which they desperately need as of lately. LA is prolly GSC's last hope.
gsc isn't poor by any means :P

Finding a big CoP mod without at least one asset ripped from Metro is surprisingly hard.

On topic though, this indeed is true :v:

thank fuck, a more realistic model for loners.
No self respecting human would go into a dangerous area where anything and everything can kill you wearing a leather jacket and track pants

But people in Russia wear leather jackets and track pants all the time!
But people in Russia wear leather jackets and track pants all the time!
Except Chernobyl is in Ukraine.
A very large portions of stalkers are probably Russian anyway

Ehhh, I don't really know about that and while I certainly applaud having more models and skins for stalkers, I like that some factions emphasize the "hobo with a shotgun"-look over crazy-prepared survivalists decked out in MOLLE gear. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the model in the picture is very good(other than the kinda tacky and ill-fitting looking scar on the guy's face) but to me it's less befitting of a regular stalker as it is a mercenary or an in-between of stalker and straight-up mercenary.
idk about that. surplus gear is extremely easy to get in russia and I would assume it would be the same in ex-Soviet states. if I were going to live in an area where I KNOW there are going to be hostile mutants and hostile people, I would bring more than just the leather jacket and track pants im wearing along with the family shotgun. I mean, that would fit for a bandit or maybe some more desperate loners that are the ones that are running from the law or things like that, but I feel like more prepared loners would be better equipped

I see a lot of stalkers as ex-military anyway, so...
