Am I the only one who hates the CoP MISERY mod?
I do not hate the mod as a whole, but I really dislike a lot of the core mechanics in it. I couldn't brind myself to play it until I used some of those patches that were tossed together from /vg/ in the days after the release.
I do hate those that praise it from the high heavens. However, those people provided /vg/ and this thread with a whole load of laughs after a bunch of posts got screencapped. They were the somewhat stalker version of the "artistic integrity/artistic vision/entitlement" things from the Bioware shitstorm, and the Misery defense force personified the concept of "It's not broken, y-you're just too casual to cope with the completely intended features. The game is completely functional!"
Those very same people then openly and warmly accepted the official patches (which fixed what they were saying wasn't broken) as if they had never spent hours calling people entitled casuals.
I ended up uninstalling Misery once I reached Pripyat, and went back to Redux.
The concept and aim of Misery was really good. It wasn't anything original within the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modding community of course, but the large number of people on the dev team and the word of mouth advertisement really spurred on some nice changes. But sadly they ended up being corrupted by other mechanics, and the large number of people working on it likely lessened the quality, all things considered.
I guess my dislike can be summed up with the following statement:
I hoped that Misery 2.0 would be an expansion of Misery 1.0, without any absolutely massive additions. Instead, we got a whole load of not entirely thought out (many broken or unbalanced) changes, as a nice side of artificial difficulty. A lot was fixed with the official patches, but the general expeirenc eis still a step down from Misery 1.0.
In my opinion, of course.

The cinematography at the start was actually really good.

The only thing I ask myself when people post stuff like this is;
"Why is there never ever any argumentation?"
They usually just throw it out there to get a reaction of whoever and go on with that :v: Explain yourself instead of throwing loose statements around, so there's room for discussion.

Also, my most anticipated SHoC mod;
Anyhow, far away southeast of the town of Chernobyl resides the town of Stari Sokoly which houses a border checkpoint and a very familiar looking granary, with the Vehicle Graveyard being right north of it :

Little bit late, but that's gives me the chills. It's weird to be so familiar with a location, but never having actually visited it. Just imagine visiting it in real life and knowing every detail of the building, but never having been there before in person.

The GSC did guys a huge tour around Chernobyl to map the levels, so it's possible every house/building is modeled after a real life counterpart.
What a shame, the full game without THQ intromission would had been a blast.
EDIT: Jesus, I have like inversed dyslexia.

I had that when I went, with a couple of places. The Pripyat cafe, on the river for instance. The CoP version of it is so eerily similar to reality, right down to the 80's vending machines just outside.
Same kinda thing with the bookshop, and also the hospital to a certain extent. The kindergartens too!
Basically, the dev team did a pretty good job of recreating Pripyat in some ways.
Also, those 8 bit tunes are fucking awesome. The bar one especially, so so good.
What a shame, the full game without THQ intromission would had been a blast.
I get a bit upset when people make it out to be that THQ was some evil EA-like company constantly breathing down GSC's neck and being the only reason for the game to get dumbed down like it did when the thing is that GSC as a company constantly failed to produce tangible results in the game development department. I can't even hope to imagine how difficult it must've been for the GSC employees to try and make their grandiose vision into a full-fledged game so I guess I'm really in no position to judge them either but really they wasted THQ's money for several years and it's a god damn miracle THQ allowed them to even finish the game given how long the project spent going through revision after revision until the gamewas finally put out. Without THQ finally stepping their foot down and forcing GSC to releasing something , S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wouldn't probably have been released at all.
[editline]herp[/editline]
You can try and come up with excuses for GSC since the game did go through some massive revisions from the sci-fi game into the stalker we know now and you could say they weren't familiar with the engine they created, half the team leaving mid-development et al. But even that wouldn't fly when they repeated it all over again in Clear Sky even though they were mostly using recycled content and some that wasn't was content nearly straight ported from old SoC builds! The project was again delivered late, in shoddier condition than SoC 1.0 and only had maybe 75% of the promised content. Call of Pripyat had a different project lead IIRC and was a smaller game overall so they delivered that game on time as well but word from the GSC when they split again in 2012 said that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 team that had promised to deliver the game around 2013-ish announced that they still would've had two more years to go if the project hadn't been put on ice. THQ hadn't had much anything to do with GSC since the release of Clear Sky (hence they couldn't use their Plastic Wax studio to make those expensive CGI cutscenes) so all it point out is that it was GSC's own fault for not being able to deliver projects on time instead of the evil THQ somehow hamstringing their effort. I love the games GSC put out even in their unfinished forms and I truly admire the vision and game design concepts of the guys working for the company but there's really something amiss when you consistently can't keep delivering your projects on time or make way too optimistic estimates. THQ was a kind developer to them, without THQ the series probably wouldn't have seen the light of day and I thank them for their patience but any other company would've straight up given GSC the big ol' boot in the ass for fucking up with their deadlines like they did with Shadow of Chernobyl.
Meanwhile WolfKOTTO (from Gunslinger) does this
These are really cool animations, and the transitions are very smooth. I can't wait to see how it would look in-game. Does the guy have a paypal where we can contribute ? Bethesda animators get paid for not achieving 20% of this quality.
Etc, wanna go on Steam some time soon mate?

also shouldn't that guy be pulling the charging handle back after he loads the new mag?

Not if the old mag wasn't empty. Does anyone know if that guy has an ETA on the release of that mod? Viewmodels and their animation were always the biggest problems in STALKER for me, so with that mod I'd probably play it a lot more than I would have otherwise.
Does anyone have the link to the megacoz stalker mod repository?

As I said, I'm trying to stay off Steam for the foreseeable future. If it's important, I'll get on some time this weekend.

Ah, I misunderstood your previous post, just went back and read it. Hope things are ok.
It's quite important and regarding Redux, so it would be nice to chat :) I'll look out for you at the weekend.

Only thing I'm worried about is that he doesn't use the same professional reload for all NPCs. I'd rather have the vanilla reloads than these for bandits, for example, who most likely have zero military training.

You bring up a very good point. Having different animation sets for different NPCs would be incredible
