Huh, I tried out Valley of Whispers and it is actually a good amount of fun outside of the whole can't-understand-russian thing. What kinds of total-conversion mods like this are there for the STALKER games that add a new map / new scripted missions?

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried to make something like the SoC Freeplay mod for CoP with all the old SoC/CS levels?
I'm pretty sure ones being made, I just cant remember the name of it

"New map" as in areas made from scratch or simply extra ones from the other games/builds? There's not really that much when it comes to completely new areas thanks to X-Ray being finnicky scaring modders away and all that. World of War for CoP apparently has some small extra level, Last Day (Последний День) for SoC has the Perimeter which is made to be pretty much what is sounds like, it also has some old build areas but was quite unstable for me and I never really bothered to complete it.
Anyhow, as far as mods with already existing areas added in go:
Shadow of Chernobyl
Вариант "Омега"
Упавшая звезда. Честь Наёмника
Dream Reader - Dangerous Area
Secret Trails 2
STALKERSOUP
RMA (a.k.a. Old Storyline Mod)
Clear Sky
Zmeelov (Not too sure about this one)
Call of Pripyat
SGM
Dead City Mod
The Way To Pripyat
S.M.R.T.R. (Not sure about custom quests, though)
G.L.A.D.I.A.T.O.R. 2 - Время альянса

I have always had an understanding that stalkers are good games, but I played the SOS for several hours and this thing is absolutely crap. I know it's an old game, but there's no clear story at all and I have no fucking clue what's the situation I'm in. And who thought it was a good idea to become too exhausted to even walk after jumping a few times.

You the what SOS? I think you accidentally left out half of the sentence there.
You the what SOS? I think you accidentally left out half of the sentence there.
He means SOC (chernobyl->shernobyl) and he's frustrated with the exhaustion mechanic and questline.

There's a very clear story if you pay attention and explore. There are no terminals with clearly written storyline for you to read like in other games. Check your inventory weight, you're carrying too much to jump a lot.

And didn't read them too. You could take a try here if you want to understand the main plot before you start again: http://stalker.wikia.com/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:_Shadow_of_Chernobyl As for the zone story, which is far more interesting than the main storyline, I advise you to be patient and to explore everything you can.
I usually don't have any trouble keeping up with the story. But somehow I missed the whole thing and found myself in a situation where shitty AI just shoots at me for no apparent reason and I have no fucking clue what the hell those invisible things are that instantly kill me. And the surrounding is fully static, I can't interact with anything. Something that I'd expect from an open world game.

Which one are you playing?
Something that I'd expect from an open world game.
Stalker isn't really an 'open-world'-game, it's more of an open-ended FPS with a hub world meaning that you can go about relatively freely about the way you approach situations but you're guided pretty sternly toward your next objective in a specific order.
I usually don't have any trouble keeping up with the story. But somehow I missed the whole thing.
You have a PDA that shows you your missions and there have been at least 4 characters who have detailed you what you need to do next :
Sidorovich, the merchant at the beginning gives you a task to get documents from the Army outpost at Agroprom while you, the player, want to track down a guy named Strelok
Fox, the guy who got chewed up by the dogs next to the Army controlled bridge outpost at the first level (Cordon) said that you need to go North to meet up with Seriy who has more information
Seriy, the guy who is at the Hangar at Garbage, tells you to go meet Mole who knows more about how to reach Strelok's stash or something.
Mole, the guy you rescue from the Military at Agroprom tells you the way to Strelok's stash (though the tunnels)
So you've been constantly directed toward your goal you just haven't paid much attention to what you've been told. The way the story progresses in SoC is kind of patchy since large bits and pieces fell out during the development but you should honestly be able to figure out the broad strokes at least.
So it's kind of confusing but there should be at least enough info that you figure out the general gist of it without having to read every single dialogue text option like in E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy.
Gunslinger strikes again.
Here I was thinking that sounded exactly like Project Reality, then I checked the description and they are.
Which one are you playing?
Hes Playing Stock SHoC i think.
I just got the STALKER itch, but don't know what mod to try out this time. I've done all the major ones I can think of (LURK, SGM, OGSE, Misery, Soup, Faction Fronts, SMRTR, OL, TFW, probably some others). Any suggestions?
I just threw that into Google Translate. Oh my goodness, I'm dying at some of the phrases.
"Neighbor threatened to make Sevigny testicular eggs, for which he spat into her pot of soup."
is this intentional?
It also says something about loving some Kindergarten, which makes it unintentionally sound like pedophilia.
I'm really looking forward to seeing gunslinger's toz-66. I love the sawn-off and a really cool animation and viewmodel would make me love it even more (I also kinda hope it looks something like this perspective wise)
Here, see if you can decipher this ancient text:
Seva Kaplan - Father-founder of the Russian radio in America - host, that has never missed a single day during his 20 year career. First 6 years of his life he spent in a communal flat, with no bed, he slept on a piano. Neighbor lady threatened to make fried eggs out of seva's eggs, for which he always would spit in her pan with soup. He's interested in sex since kindergarten and isn't ashamed of it. In 1997 hosted the legendary 5-day radio show from his hospital bed in New Jersey hospital in the state of narcotic semiconsciousness linked with burns he had received from explosion caused by jars of condensed milk. Many call Seva the Howard Stern of Russian radio. In cultural layers of immigrants Seva is widely known as a nephew Fanny Kaplan, who shot at Vladimir Lenin. Radio Show "Толковище с Севой Капланом" was called "Mix of minds without visual aid(I don't know how to translate that correctly)" (may 19,1998). Most unfavorite book: - "Also sprach Zarathustra", Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
Looks like it's just another mystery of the Zone that's going to be left unsolved. Pack it up, fellas. Nothing left to see here.

Oddly enough I feel the original weapon textures from STALKER games actually seem to fit quite well in CS.
Who is able to recognise this

Misery 3.0?
That's...That's Yantar's swamp behind the science complex.
What's with the near-identical rad trees?

Not brown enough for a 3.0 release
