I mean when you decline the evacuation, I see no traders/guides on the map anywhere

Garik should still be back at the Laundromat unless something has gone horribly wrong.
Oh, that works. Thanks

Does anyone know any good tactics to take down the mutants "Controller", "Chimera" and "Poltergeist"?
The controller I usually just hide behind a box or something but I die of psy
Chimera ends up with me fanatically running around a tree in a circle and shooting at it
Poltergeist is just running around in circles hoping it won't touch you
:v:

Grenades from behind a slope / obstacle, sniper fire or peeping at it from behind cover. Or just rush it with a knife if it's SoC / CS vanilla or AMK where you can still survive the passive PSY-damage it's creating. Trying that in ZoA will likely get you killed because it's PSI-aura is boosted up from AMK and in CoP it gets you clawed in the face.
A good Call of Pripyat specific tactic is to get in close where it tries to come and punch you and just retreat slightly all the while blasting lead into it's face.

Sniping from afar or grenades if it's the dreaded 'Electro' variety.
Kiting it into other stalkers if it's the regular variety in Cop or double-tapping a TOZ-34 into it's face at close ranges.
"Poltergeist"
They're kind of a joke, any rapid-fire weapon will do. If I encounter one of these at the Wild Territory I won't even bother shooting them because there's not much loose junk they can throw at me that hurts and they usually end up aggroing a bunch of dogs who will then by distracted by the Poltergeist that they're not bothering me.
Use shotguns on a poltergeist, use shotguns on a Chimera, use shotguns on a Controller. Generally speaking every mutant except zombies are weak to shot. Poltergeists can be dealt with low crouching close to them and then getting a good hit, Chimeras are dealt with sprinting (sprint and once it leaps behind you, turn around, shoot and then sprint again. It won't leap fast enough to hit you if you're sprinting.) And Controllers are only deadly if you have distance to them. Close the distance and blow a metallic load all over their face.

There's some wisdom in that tactic, but remember that in CoP, Poltergeists can only "see" moving targets.
Controllers I find easy to deal with if I have a high-powered sniper. Of course, that won't work unless you're at a good distance. If it's something in close-quarters, use a shotgun or use some explosives. I find the best option for myself is to avoid mutants whenever I can; I'd rather say "Nope" and take the longer route than be caught using a good amount of my ammo/meds.
In all seriousness, a single 40mm grenade will drop a Chimera, so as long as you spot it from far enough away, a UGL works as a good panic button for dealing with them. Wait for them to leap, dodge, then sprint, then shoot.

It's not easy to do that when they have rocket booster guiding in this mod, also piercing my fully upgraded exo + dropping my weapon before murdering me

Oh yeah, what was up with the poltergeists in Clear Sky? I remember going to the Red Forest, clearing the bandits out and when I was peeking at the poltergeists below I saw one pick up a VAL lying around and the thing one-shotted me. Same thing with any other item there even though I was wearing armor.
I dunno but most of the time they didn't one-shot me even in completely vanilla game on master difficulty. The wood splinters and weapons didn't kill me in one shot but the radiators in the lower levels and the barrels sometimes did but sometimes they just took out a huge chunk and then the other Poltergeist would finish me.

My brother is playing SoC for the first time, really don't remember the guns being so terribly inaccurate in early game SoC, but he's still liking it.

I don't think he'll make it through CS.

In my country, it's a bolt.
In my country, it's a bolt.
If the Latvians call it a bolt, then your country has no excuse for not calling it a bolt.
That pistol your given at the start of the game really sucks, right? Or am i just terrible with the whole "aiming" thing?
I've just been struggling at the first 8 bandits...
