Some of the stuff looks good but a lot of the stuff looks way out of place almost as if it is too high-res. It reminds me a lot of some Minecraft texture pack that was about photo-realism but it ended up looking ugly as fuck because it ruined the style of stuff entirely.
Texture res needs to be proportionate to level/model detail
I think trying to texture a game is about finding the appropriate texture for each thing youre going to redo, not just slap on the highest res you can find in the hope people without knowledge of the subject go like "Wow so amaze"
edit
You know, some of the stuff he does looks nice, although it needs improvement.

And some of the stuff just looks horribly wrong

Not trying to rip on him, but I tried giving him advice and guess what :v:
The default textures have never been bad and I never saw a need to replace them, sure maybe ones in higher resolution but never a complete re-do.
I mean come on that last pic is pure laminate flooring.

That is some very nice decking.
[editline]1st January 2014[/editline]
How about a mod for Stalker that replaces all the textures with equivalents from the Sims?

Imho much better. Takes time, but anything HQ takes time.

Take a look around I'd say :v: http://www.moddb.com/mods/photo-realistic-zone-2
It looks better graphically, but I'm not sure it's really true to the original. In the original, the tiles look to have a terracotta glaze that isn't really reflected in the new version.

This being true, I think it's about trying to maintain the shapes of a texture / use of it more than the material used. For instance;

And many, many more examples can be given.
Honestly, I think that you, as the texture artist (I in this case) is the master of the 'feeling' he/she wants to display in his / her textures. What I mean with this is, is that if I decide to change the feel of a certain place in the game (rookie camp) with new textures which are unlike the original ones (stucco wall vs brick) I have the right to do so, but under the explicit rule that it must match the environment.
Meaning, it doesn't matter what material you try and capture, as long as it feels realistic for the environment to be in. Dante, author of the hd mod for cop, goes to CGtextures and just (without doing anything) copy / pastes the files in a diffuse and saves it, creates a bump and is done with it, while that above texture took me approx 2 days to create :v:
It's late and my English isn't very clear atm, but I hope you understand and get my point here.
That is one lubricated Wolf.
GUNSLINGER mod strikes again.

I still prefer Greasy the Trench Coat Bandit over lubricated Wolf, though.
Holy shit!

That's some lvl90 magic.
What is this and when will it be finished
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! That looks like Metro or something.
Looks really good. My main gripe is still the sky light / ground light balance. Sky's too bright, ground's too dark.
What's a really terrible russian mod that is incredibly difficult?
I know theres people soup but installing that is like going through a fucking maze.
I want to make another video like this one

I've said this before and I'll say it again.
Frozen Zone's dev team isn't composed of wizards. It's composed of sorcerers.
Its full of......

No, not just any Russian can accomplish this.
A Russian can accomplish NLC. A Russian wizard can accomplish the Soup. But only a Russian sorcerer can accomplish Frozen Zone.
coded with vodka and borscht as opposed to lower programming languages
Don't forget exclusive bandit AI coding.
if (cheeki)
-Frozen Zone Amazingness-
It's like the dev team is composed of Russian Gandalfs with vodka for blood.
So I bought stalker CoP a day ago knowing jack shit about the series.
You can just picture my face when I tried to walk across a bridge and then suddenly exploded because of a anomaly ( I didn't even know anomalies were even a thing! )
welcome to the zone
