IIRC it actually affects NPCs detecting you, too, which is pretty neat.
It indeed grants you visual bonusses. NPC detection distance is decreased when you're wearing a ghillie suit. This also adds up to nighttime vision distance, granting you near complete invisibility if you weren't spotted. It's my fav. suit up till now
Also, Beac, we do have a changelog, but as this is the beta version, constantly updating the text file would be a hassle as we'd have to re-up it each time. I think that in the end, gathering all information and fixes + additions into the readme / changelog / patch file is a better way of spending time than constantly updating it (we use the moddb forums mainly for updating content and sometimes people tend to post in other threads and it gets all cluttered up)
Also, XeroG,
This shouldn't be happening iirc. I'll check with Troj wether this was intentional.
For those who're going to try MISERY 2.1 and don't have a moddb account, PM me with error logs please. I will post them on the bugs forums for you.

beta or not, why would someone download a new version without knowing what it does? I wouldn't. Don't want to sound harsh but it's an important thing in a release.

How good is it on daytime? I want to know how close I can be without the cheeki-breeki alarm going off
also does it work against mutants?

The vision range is 60% of the original when wearing a ghillie suit IIRC.
Also, no. Mutants can smell you so it wont work against them :)
What texture mods would you recommend for STALKERSOUP? And shaders? because the shaders in soup are fucking ugly
First impressions of Misery 2.1 beta build:
- Lower performance (I can probably attribute this to me not realizing just how big of an impact increasing the radius of A-life from the player has on performance. I just took it one notch higher than the default setting and welcome 20 fps.)
- Combat is generally speaking improved upon (I had a pistol fight with three loners at the Ranger Station because I wanted better gear from their corpses. I killed a stalker with a single headshot even though he had a Sunrise suit but three shots to the chest from another loner's pistol took me down easily. Weapons feel deadly all around and I like it...so far. Could be different at higher tiers of weapons/armors)
- New items seem to have neat purposes and easy-to-understand mechanics (You have basically steel pliers to pick up artifacts with and you can put them into containers where they won't bleed radiation a lá STALKERSOUP, and executed just as well too!)
- Sound world is improved slightly (Most sound files remain the same, but I did also detect a few new ones...though that could be just my imagination. Still, it's good in terms of sound.)
- No improvement on visuals just yet.
I'll keep playing tomorrow and see what sortsa things I discover.

Ai always kill you faster with centre mass shots than you can kill them at the start of the game with Pistols and stuff. I'm interested in if ballistics have finally be balanced.
And if the terribly Artifical AI and difficulty has been fixed and improved.

What's your specs?
Also, [Green], what's yours?
I personally don't have a single problem running MISERY. Granted I play MISERY soley on my pricy rig, not my modding / music rig.
For reference;
CPU: Intel i7-3770k @4.5GHz

Lol, that's very weird. Do you know the mobo by any chance? How much FPS are you getting and what's the res?

The motherboard is a 2013-something ASUS, average, FPS is about 60-50 with constant mini-lag-spikes, 1920x1080
What's up with the ridiculous shotgun accuracy in soup? My father used to own a soviet dual barreled smoothbore shotgun. He couldn't even hit a bucket from 60 meters, but one of the carcasses went trough the Kolkhoz brigadiers ear. Then he had to somehow fabricate a lie that it was not a bullet :v:
[editline]7th January 2014[/editline]
And he owned the classic horizontal double barreled one, too. We see a sawed off version of that, and it's even more accurate in soup.

Ohhh, micro stutter. Yes, that's due to the AI coming online indeed. The only fix for that now is decreasing the switch distance, but this will mean you're going to mess some things up :/ the default is IIRC 150m

Day 1 stalker PC:
Intel Pentium 4 single core @3,5 Ghz
ATI RADEON 9600 256MB VRAM
512MB RAM
5600RPM HDD
Loading times between levels approx 6 to 15 min, depending on the mod. I had instances where I'd play guitar and make myself coffee before I'd start a new game.
And It wasn't meant that way man :) I know the pain.
Also, [Green], I recommend both you and XeroG to try different switch distances. I feel like 225 or 200 gives me a pretty significant FPS boost over 300. I also haven't had a problem with the quests yet, but I'm not that far into the game as I'm merely focussing on PRZ2 for MISERY atm.
Let me know how things go and feel free to PM me. No PM will bother me (I get around 15 a day on moddb because of MISERY)

Please, don't think I have tons of money and upgrade my PC every 3 months :v: I had to work a LOT for this. Like, I saved up for a 400 series card but then 1,5 years later got that build. I had to give up stuff for this PC to happen and there' stuff out there 'worse' than what I have (meaning even better)
Also, my dad games and helped me get this together. He's been in the computer business for well over 35 years now so yeah :v: I'm sorry, once again.
Switch distances as in the distance where the game makes NPCs go into offline/online AI?
Is there a way to change it without reinstalling?

Most certainly,
Gamedata/configs/alive.ltx
scroll down and you'll see 'switch_distance'. Try different values and see what works best. I recommend staying above the 200 though

Are the digits ingame meters? I mean, since I'm playing sniper having long switch distances sure are useful. For example being able to snipe Shevchenko from Skadovsk would be...maybe 100 meters idk.
Then again, I've played through what I could in STALKERSOUP being a combat sniper, noscoping at point blank ranges and whatnot so it's not like I can't adapt a bolt-action for more unorthodox tactics.

No, i'm not doing that, i'm just saying that giving your pc specs as a "reference" is ridiculous/funny. Your pc is undoubtedly godlike. I'm sure there are worse pc's to compare to wich can run misery perfectly on all ultra high settings. But if there aren't, well, then the mod needs A LOT of optimization.
Yes, they represent ingame meters.
What I did to do the perfect switch distance was this;
- Enable crosshair distance
- Go into the game and go to the forrest where you spawn in vanilla CoP
- Measure the distance from there to the point where you get the most frames (I looked to my left, near the burner anomaly)
- Note that distance and round it up or down to decimal(?) / round numbers (5, 10, 15 etc.).
I got the distance 225 from this. I just came up with it a few weeks ago with testing our build although I never post bugs because I mod the mod :v: Did it good for me so hey, why not.
yes, metres

I can play MISERY in well over 60FPS as well on my 'Music / modding' PC.
For the purpose of not trying to look like an ass I'll leave out the specs, but it's dated from 2009 :v: The mod doesn't really need optimisation, as the base problems lies within the way Xray works. Someone like Alundaio could explain this better so I'll just quite his post from GSC forums:
Just increasing the stack size isn't going to do much. C Stack Overflows are caused by infinite recursion, so it can't prevent something that is hungry for an infinite Stack and nothing should need a stack size bigger then the default. If Xetrill finishes his dll we will see HUGE performance boosts with those string functions. Think of all the string manipulation that goes on, reading all those config values from logic and all that parsing done when objects come online. lua likes to create copies of string in memory for most of the string operations which is not only costly but time consuming. Not too mention garbage collection to clean up the mess.
This is why there is a huge boost in loading time with my gulag_general. There is a shit ton of string concatenation going on when those dynamic ltxs are created. It's 400x faster to just load those ltx files directly.
X-Ray Engines greatest flaw is parsing logic from strings. If I was going to do a story mod I wouldn't use a single condition list or info portion. Strings need so much memory.
As one of the dev team and therefore one of the people that had earliest access to the new version giving his specs as reference is perfectly reasonable. On top of this it's a beta, they have room to optimize and tweak now. There's no gloating or feelings of superiority involved here; it's just to know the difference in performance between as many systems as possible.
(unless loner1 does get some kind of boner over it in which case i take back every word :v::v::v:)
Doesn't seem the type, though. Really, y'all need to chill.
Oh and another thing I noticed regarding performance is that quickloading a save seems to reset my framerate into a good 60 (since that's my screen's refresh rate). I'm guessing this is because loading saves resets the Alife?
Lol hell no. I try and create my own mods for the very broad audience there is out there. Hence why PPx features many additions like 50% res textures, less particles etc. :v: 3 times the work, worth the effort.

No, scratch that. I see Yastiandrie and Troj have implanted some of PR (Pripyat Reborn) v1.12's scripts into MISERY 2.1 BETA which may cause this behavior.
I have yet to update to the 2.1 BETA as I am more focussing on school, sadly.
Ah, i'm giving up on stalkersoup for now. It's not that shitty it's or anything - it's realism modifications make the game even less realistic. The already mentioned shotgun accuracy, as in the shotgun is a god tier weapon for almost everything in this mod. I'm not even talking about balancing and immersion. is all just too overly frustrating. Does anyone know this mod? http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr&thm_page=1&thm_id=22013&sec_id=17 It's apperantly stalkersoup without the bullshit weapon accuracy and is balanced
