S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

better performance and cheaper price, what more can you ask for
256GB for a hundred twenty quid.
i've been shopping at the wrong place bro.
Are there any playable SoC (or CS/CoP) mods that do things like add back in the old Cordon, or Garbage, or is LA the only one to attempt to do so?
They look so god damn large even compared to CoP's areas.

There's loads of them with 1935 being at the top, altough that's not level-port only.
Why does lurk keep getting installed if I do a clean reinstall of SoC? I completely wipe any evidence of lurk on my harddrive and after reinstalling the game it boots up lurk.
Just some fast responses:
1st of all @[Green] - sorry for not responding to your suggestions earlier, I've been in sort of a rush lately.
Generally its not that I am escaping discussion or neglecting other ppl arguments or sth - its exacly the opposite, which I think you've already noticed in how v2.1 works (althou its no longer entirely our tale now - v2.0 was :) ).
Its just that, we had to make some decisions here and there to have the entire thing more or less coherent. And generally - whenever we could opt for 'making an exeption' or 'keeping things work as a system', we opted for the second option so that gameplay and results of choices are predictable.
Also - thanks for all the other comments here. I am glad that in the end you've bought the concept.
---
Now, some short explanations on recent stuffs:
@radiation
Actually in Misery - and maybe its the only mod around that approaches it like that - one can completely take the 'outside radiation' out of the picture by simply using a gasmask / filtered helmet.
This has significant combat repercussion - as it expands tactical options by allowing you to use radiated object as covers (and there are plenty of them around maps).
There even has been a lore effort done to explain why it is so:
http://media.moddb.com/images/groups/1/8/7693/UI_External_Radiation.jpg
I generally encourage you to read all other pop-ups for protection bars in the UI which are high-lighted in this news feed:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-misery/images/realism-ui-overhaul#imagebox
Values are to be compared with item props, conclusions on equipment effectivity are to be drawn out of that. Everything stated works as stated.
@AI vision params
The way x-ray works is that AI can either be set to see in darkness or not. If player purchases night-vision which allows him to see in darkness and AI is set to not see in it - player becomes omni-potent and kills everyone without retaliation.
So the only option when setting the AI is assuming that every NPC uses night-vision. This results in a situation in which player not using it is purposely impaired.
After you purchase the nvd and start using it for example to explore buildings when it is raining outside - NPC behaviour starts to make sense.
No matter how long I think about it I see no other way to go around AI visibility in darkness thing.
@AI reaction times
Well - 'lighting reflexes' is purely a matter of skill. We opted for competent bots in Misery - thats all there is to it. Especially in v2.1 the reaction times at close range for highest ranked NPCs (as they are depended on NPC rank) have been set to around 255-350ms plus variated vision penalty (counted for ex. based on wheter player is moving and how fast, wheter its dark or not etc.).
Above value might be a bit high (highest humane reaction time are around 200ms) - but I personally don't feel NPCs to be faster than me or than semi-skilled MP-shooter players. Plus I really wanted to make bots in Misery something which can make you better at shooters generally.
One has to remember that Stalker is unique for being the only 'RPG' which at the same time is a competent shooter. The second part has always been almost equally important to us.
@Repair kits
Please read this examplary post:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-misery/forum/thread/upgrade-of-a-sniper-rifle#951325
It works exacly the same for all other weapons and armors. its only a matter of insight that you put into it. If you don't want to put insight - you can pay mechanic to put it for you ;) Or just settle with purchasing new stuff.

OK thats all from me for now.
[bracing for incomming shit storm] ;)
SGM has pretty much confirmed my thoughts about CoP's stamina drain being annoying as hell.
You run a little slower, but it lasts a hell of a lot longer, only becomes a problem when you are overloaded, and you don't have to consume energy drinks like a drug addict.
I vastly prefer this system to vanilla.
How's FXAA in CoP look? Thinking about using it since AA in CoP decreases performance a lot
I use SMAA and it works well. FXAA tends to make text really fuzzy.
Paste your clipboard here after a crash, but I bet it'll be a stack trace:
So in SGM 2.2 I went through the swamps, got the part for the mine detector, came out of the swamps, got the mine detector - and now when I go back to the swamps it crashes as soon as it starts to load
What do
Huh, well that explains a bit.
No mention of this issue anywhere. Why does this shit have to happen to me
E:\priquel doesn't even exist
You need to install the patch.
For future reference, the "File :" line doesn't refer to any of your drives, but to the relevant file on whatever computer was used to compile the game.
It's amazing how good AA2 looks, and with a fraction of the loading times of CoP + Absolute Nature lite even with prefetching enabled.
really enjoying my playthru of Autumn Aurora 2
btw has this happen to anyone

Why do your binocular draw animations look so nice? In my AA2 he just brings it up and it's very basic and barely noticeable.
Finally got the lurk out of my soc (had to install and then uninstall lurk). Now I'm trying to play AA2 but it crashes as soon as I start the game. I'm not getting any error report either. Can anyone help?

What patch version are you running?
Did you completely uninstall LURK?
Did you ever modify the .dll files?
Did you " " " .exe files?
Try installing SHoC again + patch 1.0006?

Pretty sure I got rid of lurk. When I installed SoC again everything was back to normal. I'm on whatever default version steam is. Didn't mess with any of the .dll's or the .exe. I've reinstalled SoC 3 times now with no luck.

I think steam is on 1.0006.

Oh, no wonder.

You have to delete SweetFX from your steam. It doesn't work with Steam.
I somehow missed that second line. I disabled the steam community but didn't do the other one. Clearly I'm smart enough to survive again in the zone.

Heh.
One tip;
Do not go to the military checkpoint at the cordon immediately, south of the rookie village. They'll mess you up.

Screen res. What do you play at and at what FOV?
Suggestions for a mod for CoP? Don't know what to pick. Misery looks cool but I hate the "oh so hardcore" mentality

Trying it will prove your point. Don't assume stuff based upon others opinions. I always recommend people to try it out theirselves

I am not going to download a whole bunch of mods each worth several GB just to see what they are like
I don't assume anything, if I don't like what's been suggested after I tried it then I'm going to move on to the next
