All I can suggest is to switch all visual settings to the lowest, though you can start by reducing grass density/draw distance as it is usually the main cause for such an error.
now to figure out what grass draw distance is in russian so I can find the right slider

At least when I raised them up it took a while to resume the game and there was a ton of grass and I was getting 4 fps.

It's still pretty fun to explore though, the levels are huge and have multiple exits, I've just been clicking the russian till I get quests from sid and it's worked so far.
The second quest you have to go north to the garbage and kill a bandit to get some weird ball artifact from him - though that was probably pure luck that I managed to do that since there was no marker.
Also, I was vehemently opposed to enabling combat music for a long time, but actually listening to this stuff it ain't half bad

I'm looking into restarting (again...) CoP. My previous attempt was with Misery, which was an enjoyable experience, but slightly too "hardcore" for a casual run. I mostly want to finally go through CoP and explore all the areas without having to worry about too many peripheral stuff.
How does that sound :

And only now did I notice a couple few mistakes in the text.
Complete is a very old and somewhat crude merge of several mods, most of which have newer, better, more stable releases. OWR and Arsenal Overhaul are unlikely to play well with each other, unfortunately. I'm not very up to date with the modding scene at them moment, but I suggest some combination of the following:

Absolute Nature 3
Atmosfear 3
Absolute Structures
Particle Paradise 3
Variation Mod (if not already included in the weapon mods)

[/B]OWR or Arsenal Overhaul
[B]Gameplay:

AI Tweaks or Pripyat Reborn (that's what it's called, right?)
There may be some crossover here, I haven't done much research. Google around for how to merge them together, I think you can find some patches somewhere.

My advice would be to avoid Complete like the plague. It makes the game easier, buggier, and is extremely outdated.
If you're looking for graphical improvements, you might wanna check out AtmosFear 3 and Absolute Textures. For guns, OWR is a really good choice but I doubt it's compatible with Arsenal Overhaul without some tweaking. As a final touch to the game, I would get either MSO or Pripyat Reborn(I do not think there is OWR compatibility for MSO though).

Complete is number zero on my list of mods i would play if i wanted the core game left alone. Just get Absolute Nature, Atmosfear and maybe a minor weapon mod. holy shit double ninja'd.

It works fine with Atmosfear 3. It's a stretch to call it a merge; the weapon configs are all that needed editing.
I would say that MSO is still the leader at making the game, and especially Pripyat, more active. Pripyat Reborn NPCs are smarter, but once you've done the missions, the maps become a wasteland. MSOs revamping of the NPC and mutant spawn system makes all the difference for me.

Late reply I know. But fuck context sensitive cover mechanics.
They're just something left over from console games.
Max Payne 3 was one of the few games that did context sensitive cover well, because you couldn't rely on it entirely.
Q&E leaning also has the added benefactor in many games that when you lean to the right; you also lower your profile.
