S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

I like Misery, more then I thought I would. There is just one minor thing that bugs me a lot, and it's a lot up to taste/opinion I think. But, when I am playing as recon, I expected that I would be able to insta-kill someone with a heavy knife stab in the back of their head. I can understand if I can't do it against exo-suited enemies. It's just that "melee stat" feels kinda useless, since I had to stab a guy 4-5 times in the head. (the first stab being while I'm undetected).
Can I tweak this, or? I started playing recon because I wanted to be sneaky up-close, but reconsidering going sniper, just because long range engagements are much easier. I think the damage it does is fine and fair when they know I am there, but it should be another thing when I am unnoticed.
I wish Misery let me enable the combat music. It was an option, why take it out?
anyone else find it relaxing to just sit next to a campfire and listen to stalkers talk and shit?
I listen to them playing the guitar. And when they put it away, I play mine :v:

Currently knowing 9 out of 11 songs in SoC, 4 out of 16 in CoP.
I remember when I was a playing a serial killer. I'd go into an abandoned building by day and mess around, and at night sneak up on stalker campfires and execute them at close range.
I called myself "The Campfire Killer"

You're the worst :'(
Just imagine someone being killed when they're trying to relax a bit and forget the harsh condition of the Zone.
Well the backstory I made up for it was that he was severely depressed and mentally damaged after a previous event. That event was a Kill the Stalker mission.
This is actually the post, follows post 432 and 434 I made a while back:

I know it's not a big deal to the hardcore Stalker enthusiasts out there and there are mods to fix this, but I hate how the FOV is fixed vanilla to like 60. You'd think by the third game they'd get this right even if it was made in 2010.
[editline]23rd January 2014[/editline]
Any good mods out there other than Misery 2.0?
I thought call of pripyat was the only one where it was 60?
At least, it's the only one I noticed it in and had to change it if it was

Problem with expanding that to say, 75 is that you get a 4ft forcefield around everyone. If you want a mod that's not pain in the ass hard as misery 2.0 is, 2.1 is worth a shot. If you want something completely different, try SGM2.2 english all-in-one on moddb.
AA2 related question; Is the weather meant to change? I've had complete overcast and fog for the past few days in Cordon and Garbage.

It changes, but fog does seem to be its preferred weather type. It is using a version of Atmosfear after all.

Holy shit, that's caused by the fov fix? I always assumed that was some sort of new thing they added to prevent the player from blocking npcs or something.

Also, there are LOTS of good mod for CoP other than Misery. But it's also based on your preferences of being "good".

Not certain, but i think it's hardcoded in the game. I noticed that with the FOV at 75 or higher, regardless of mods. It's kinda there at default too.

This is not hardcoded. It's the ph_box restrictor. It's a invisible 'box' around a character / npc that's meant to not make you glitch through them. I've explained a couple of pages ago, but it's located in
gamedata/configs/creatures/actor.ltx
for the player, and in the respective .ltx files for the other AI in-game. (monsters etc.)

inspired me to write a little thing
damn, i'm getting rusty
The air was filled with the stench of rotten eggs. Acid and poison seeped into the swamp water from chemical anomalies, turning it murky and bitter. Yet something lived in this God-forsaken dump. A hunched figure trudged its way across the swamp, listening carefully for any intruders. The monster dared not waste its energy in cloaking unnecessarily; hunger was already draining its strength. The mutant looked back towards the direction it came from, scanning the horizon for anyone for anything. When nothing showed up, it carefully delved into thick vegetation, making sure the path it took was unnoticeable.
Soon enough, a small clearing, a safe haven showed up. Hunger seemed to subside momentarily as brown, soft hands met and the couple embraced each other again. As their mouths intertwined, tentacles rubbing and caressing each other, the male heard rustling of vegetation on their right. While he was fairly sure of what it was, his instincts told him to be at the ready regardless. From the corner of his eye, he saw a small figure pop out from the midst of the weeds, not much taller than a flesh. The female opened her arms and embraced the young one, lovingly stroking its smooth, round head. The male affectionately looked at the exchange as small hands tried to reach the mother's tentacles with a playful twink in its eyes. While smiling, the female's eyes were filled with worry.
"He has lost weight again."
"I know. We have to go outside the swamp to find food. The humans know we are here. They will not approach the swamp to relax anymore."
The mother bloodsucker looks up at her mate, her eyes openly rejecting the suggestion.
"No. We must not anger the humans. Did you not hear what they did to the lair up north? They did only what they had to not starve and the entire nest was annihilated. We cannot afford risking too much attention. They've left us alone as long as we've stayed on the swamp. We need to find another way."
"This peace will not last. The humans will feel threatened as long as we live."
"Unfortunately. However-"
The male quickly raises his hand to invoke silence and gets up on one knee. He cocks his head back, sniffing at the air. Even through the thick odor of acid and rot his sharp senses detect human sweat. Fire. Metal.
"They have come. We must defend our home."
"No, we should hide."
"And then what? Starve our child to death? Come, we have to make sure our nest stays safe. Go alert the other two on the other side of the rot. They will aid us; this is as much our home as it is theirs."
The female grabs the male's hand as it is about to disappear into the thick of vegetation again. The father turns around and curves its tentacles, the equivalent of a human smiling.
"At least he will have much food."
As both of the parents disappear, the small bloodsuckers sits on the ground, confused. Loud banging and ferocious roars can be heard from the swamp. The child recognizes their parents' voices and starts rushing through the weeds. As it slowly wrestles its way through the thick, waist-deep sludge it finds the father and mother laying on the ground.
Unfortunately, bloodsuckers do not have lachrymal ducts.
Well, you'll have plenty of time to write this weekend ;) I'll hopefully be uploading PPx2.2 tonight!

Someone should .gif the part 2:54 - 2:56 lol

I just came across something that perfectly fits the STALKER universe;
"Morality is an opinion, not truth".
Made me think. It's true. If you choose to be a psychopathic killer that KSOses everything and everyone, it's your right to do so. I think this greatly applies to stuff like MISERY / Redux / SGM etc.
So I just installed ShoC from the disc and I was wondering that do I have to apply all the patches in order or can I just install the 1.0006 patch?

You need 1.0005 before you install 1.0006
Also if you will install 1.0005 first and then 1.0006 you will be fine

Okay, thanks a lot.
Having fun with Valley of Whispers analogue - Priest mod.
It has a really well made new location - Valley of Shadows.
