S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

Decided to do Autumn Aurora 2, i'm in the process of installing and patching. I had to do a few updates to Stalker too, I bought it retail when it came out so it's 1.0 out of the box. While the mod was downloading I played vanilla for a while it still has its charm, master is like easy to me after Misery haha.
I can't wait a proper translation for that fabulous looking mod. Dem fur suits :v:
Stalker had them Clear Sky jeans
Suits with the fur,
The whole bar was lookin over there
He hit the flo, he hit the flo
Next thing you know
Stalker lurks low low low low, low low low low
Is Autumn Aurora 2 that harsh on computers or is it just my configuration?
I run a 2500k + GTX760 at 1440p and I feel like I'm getting around 30 frames outside with AA off and grass draw distance at around 150m (with no prefetch because otherwise it stutters).

You can try lowering the grass distance and messing with some of the shader settings, but there isn't much else you can do. A lot of it comes from the new weathers; if it's clear and your view distance is maxed then your framerate will be lower that you're accustomed to.
150m is more than you need, 100m already covers a pretty damn massive distance
lower grass density for more performance
i use a GTS-250 and get an average of 40-50fps when not streaming, 60+ indoors
last thing you can do is decrease lighting distance, because of the tall foliage and rather small map size you barely notice the difference anyway

This is really weird.
My config (Q9950 @3.4Ghz, GTX260 Black Edition, 6GB RAM, 7200RPM Samsung spinpoint F1 and ASUS P5Q-T Deluxe) can run AA2 at phenomenal FPS. I get around 90 at times and in combat / heavy pop. areas 60 at min. This all at 1680x1050, maxed. Both of your configs (the i5 config even exceeds mine) should be quite on par
Try tinkering with your settings in the nvidia graphics control centre. I've noticed setting everything to default with xr_3da will result in less frameloss. I had stuff like forced AA and AF on that greatly reduced frames in stalker.
AA2 is neat and all, but the respawn times are really making it a chore to play. When you enter the Garbage, kill the bandits on the right side of the road, go help defend the hangar, then come back and see that the first group of bandits is already back... it just makes the world feel so static. Like the reset button is going to be pressed the second you look away or move on.
Crap I don't like the sound of that at all. I hope it won't be as bad as I fear.

2560x1440?
[editline]25th January 2014[/editline]
How much RAM do you have?
I'm running it off a laptop with a 2gb 540m. I turned the grass density down a bit and now it runs great. In fact lowering the grass density makes it look better too.
Since you guys are pros at this series, which mod/s is the most indicated for a dirty casual like me?
I have Clear Sky and Shadow of Chernobyl
By casual I mean not liking dying in 10 seconds after leaving the safezone from a mutant gangbang or something

Vanilla on Easy then. Or Complete on Normal.

I've played about an hour with ZRP's spawn manager and there haven't been any issues. It'll take some more time before it's obvious if it's actually working but I don't see why it shouldn't. If you haven't started a new game yet, you could make the changes and benefit from them from the start.
what's with the weapon accuracy in vanilla clear sky anyway? Can't hit the broad side of a barn 10 meters away with most weapons that don't come with a scope, even while low crouching, and the shotguns are just so bad sometimes it feels I'm shooting blanks
Then you get the vintorez with pinpoint accuracy

I'm asking about mods that don't add bullshit that makes the game "realistic"
I already played the games
Am I late with this? Not logged on in a while, how's everyone doing? :)

Then tell us what kind of content you want.
Stalker is not an easy game by itself and I know plenty of hard mods without ~oh so realistic~ bullshit.

A compilation that adds improved textures, ambient sounds, improved effects, AI tweaks, new weapons. That kinda stuff.
For Clear Sky I found something called Clear Sky Complete. Is that good?
Also Ghost Land, that looks interesting as well
In fact lowering the grass density makes it look better too.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the ridiculous grass density when you kill an enemy and then spend the next 2 minutes searching for the body, I don't put it past half way personally.

ye, and 8 gigs
also my card is OC'd about 15-20% although I made sure that nothing was forced on in the nvidia settings
[editline]f[/editline]
grass draw distance was set to 100m already, hmm
at least there's about 10~ish fps difference between about half maxed settings and approx. 75% slider settings except texture quality

Complete is bad in every way. Don't even think about it unless you are a super casual who never played a FPS games.
There is Clear Sky Reloaded for better graphics and AI tweaks.
For SoC graphics you can go with ZRP and Argus texture pack. For more weps and gameplay changes take a look at OGSE and LURK.
Also Beac, we need to fix the "preferred mods for SoC/CS/CoP" links in the op.

I haven't started yet. So what do I have to do to make the respawning more bearable?
fixed the FPS issue by turning grass / shadows down a notch, apparently supersampling has less of a fps effect than grass
now for lab x18 fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck ;~;
I haven't started yet. So what do I have to do to make the respawning more bearable?
Just put this file in your gamedata\scripts folder.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/3zlc8130msczmg5/se_respawn.script
The numbers at the top of the script can be changed to your liking as often as you want, though it takes a while for them to take effect. And like I said, I'm not 100% sure that it's actually working, but it isn't causing crashes or anything.
Having a few issues with AA2:
The game does remember the graphical settings once restarted, but everytime I start a new game, it always automatically slides all the graphical settings up to max, except grass distance. Static Lightning also goes Full Dynamic Lightning when starting a new game.
If I try to change the settings when the map has been loaded, the game crashes.

Anyone? I really want to play AA2.
Anyone? I really want to play AA2.
It seems that AA2 has a script that sets a number of user.ltx variables to pre-defined values and no subsequent changes will stick.
So try this:
- Delete/backup any user.ltx files you have.
- Go into your gamedata\scripts folder and backup then open the tadek_spawns script.
- Go down to line 407 and comment out/delete the functions that are full of console:execute commands. It's ~150 lines worth of stuff.
- Now backup and open the bind_stalker script. Go to line 463 and comment out the tadek_spawns.set_console_on_start () line. Then go to line 543 and comment out the tadek_spawns.set_console_on_load () line.
- Load up the game and see if any changes will save.
I've never known of a mod to do this before. There's really no reason for a mod to lock in certain console values and remove the option for the user to (easily) edit them. You can't even change the value for cam_inert with the way this is set up.
I don't see this causing any issues but you never know. I'm guessing some of the values are an attempt to guarantee the mod looks a certain way, so that will certainly change, but other than that you should be OK.
EDIT: One last thing... You'll need to go into the shaders\r2 folder and open the shadersettings.txt file. Comment out the #define SATURATION_FILTER and the #define CONTRAST_FILTER entries at the top. Everything is too dark otherwise.
Using the game's default lighting settings does change the look of the mod. It's less... bleak looking I guess you could say. Personal preference and all that.
Could anyone tell me which file armor and weapon upgrades are handled in? I found a bug with an upgrade for some helmets and armor that doesn't do anything in Misery 2.1. It's been there since 2.0.2 AFAIK.
[editline] nope [/editline] Found it myself, thought i'd have to dig really deep, but i found it right off.
Trying to fix this damned bug, the stamina increase for the Sphere helmets and the screen helmet are broken, i'v even copied the module from the clear sky armor, which that upgrade does work in.
