Man, I need to get back to playing R.E.B.O.R.N. Another Way again sometime soon. I got to [t]http://i.imgur.com/Zt9YrC6.jpg[/t] or so the last time I played it and stopped for some reason. Also, have any of you played the other R.E.B.O.R.N. where you play as a woman? I'm simply wondering if it's pure trash or at least worth playing just for the sake of it.
;43685734']no fuck that
i am not running across zaton because of a fucking alpha squad
no
you better be running with 60 kg of weight on your back for full immersion
Watched it before the Stalker games came out and still consider it as a good film.
Because of having a few philosophical thoughts in it a bunch of idiots say it's too deep and another bunch of idiots say it's short and boring.
I don't think it's fair to label people idiots just because they find the movie boring or too deep. People have different tastes after all. And besides that movie bears little to no resemblance to the games anyway. You can totally love the Stalker games, but still "hate" the movie.
You are not justified to call people idiots based on their personal opinions.
But whatever, I found the movie to be boring and way too long.
the characters had no arcs to them, no development whatsoever
Well there's the scenes at the end where "Chingagook" explores his thoughts and his reasoning for being in the Zone and the other characters reveal their true intentions on why they came to the Zone so it's not like it's a completely pointless film, there's character interaction and a degree of drama as well in the end. It's been kind of long since I watched it so I'm bit hazy on the details but there was a certain character development, there was something happening in the end.
I kind of agree with the other sentiments you had in that I find it a bit overrated at least in terms of how the general S.T.A.L.K.E.R. community seems to rate it in that I feel that plenty of the scenes are too long, even if they're meant to convey an emotion of the characters. Still, I disagree with your assertation that it only rides on the coattails of the video game series as far as it's cultural importance goes ; maybe that's true in the case of 20-somethings but it's had a certain cultural connotation to Chernobyl, I distinctly recall that when Chernobyl happened, people sometimes called the hobos who went to the Exclusion Zone to scavenge for junk they could sell "stalkers" since the film was only released a few years prior to the Chernobyl nuclear Disaster of the year 1986 , so the connection between the Tarkovsky film "Stalker" and the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone well predates the videogame series.
And besides that movie bears little to no resemblance to the games anyway.
"Little to no resemblance" is kind of a big thing to say when you consider that most of the major plot motifs are essentially the same.
You have the Exclusion Zone versus the Zone of the films, both of which are abandoned and cordoned off and they have dangerous not because of a natural occurrence but because the events that were of basically supernatural origin have caused there to be anomalies and weird phenomena that are dangerous.
Despite the Zone being locked down, people still want to venture to it because they have heard of the mysterious "Room" and it would grant wishes. "The Room" and Wish Granter also share similarities in that they are implied that they don't make necessarily your stated wish true, but rather your innermost one, something that you don't even realize you want. The Zone in both the movie and the game series are also implied to be living, sentient beings to a certain degree and the characters of neither really actually know if it is actually true and if it is true then to what extent ?
The nature of the Zone is also similar in regards to the basic rule of the Zone : "Do not bring in weapons." which is relatively funny considering S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was made to be an FPS but it's there in that the Zone has made military vehicles (and in fact, all kinds of vehicles really) break down for mysterious reasons without a few exceptions like Death Trucks and helicopters. This is also present in the Tarkovsky film where the stalker and the group come across as an old military convoy that has been derelict for apparently years.
The movie was, of course, it's own thing and it can't really be reasonably compared to the videogame side-by-side but to say that they have 'little to no resemblance' sounds to at least me somewhat absurd.
[editline]herp[/editline]
That said, I agree with your point that not liking the 1979 film doesn't make you any less of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan, it's just that even if the connection between the film and the videogame series is loose, it's there.
Welp. Misery somehow fixed itself cause I have no problems with it anymore.
Weird.

I wasn't calling everyone "idiots". The keyword is "a bunch".
Example - you say "Just watched Tarkovsky film Stalker and it was not as good as many of you claimed it to be. Well maybe it's not for my taste." and then somebody other says "I checked Stalker movie, it's so shitty it's not even close to the games!".
See, this is why I said "a bunch of idiots".
Some of the noises in AA2 underground can be quite creepy, but also funny, I mean I'm pretty sure one of the stock distant maniacal laughs you hear was used in Scooby Doo. Also this has been bugging me for ages, what is making that cat noise you hear in the Cordon every now and then, its in Vanilla stalker too.
what is making that cat noise you hear in the Cordon every now and then, its in Vanilla stalker too.
That's just vanilla ambient. There's some oversights in the ambient in the way that SoC ambience has occasionally songbirds chirping while it's sort of implied that only crows are the birds that can navigate the Zone although I think even that's supposed to be just a general principle and not something that is completely true like the main bird variety in the Zone are crows but there would be a possibility for other bird species to exist too. The cat noises being in the ambient are probably from the time when GSC was going to incorporate cat mutants into the game as well but they ended up being cut. The same logic can still be applied to the cats as the songbirds in that there might be cats living in the Zone, just not in as large numbers as dogs do and in areas that the player doesn't get to see.
Two more Phantoms Zone screens

Man what the hell did you make me download
I started in the CoP zone with a fucking ginormous pseudogiant and a shitload of FUCKING GIANT SPIDERS WITH THE MOST OBNOXIOUS SOUNDS HOLY SHIT and everything is in broken english and there's zombies with RPGs everywhere and every few minutes my character gives off what sounds like a woman's pleasure moans even though he still looks like a dude and sounds like a dude when he gets hit and other stalkers talk like 12 years old who never went to school
Am I even seeing this it feels like I'm going insane
And there's random people screaming and now I'm phasing through walls I dont even know what is going on
And my guy goes "damn mutants!" every single time I reaload my shotgun
Is there any way to replace the inventory portrait in AA2?
you better be running with 60 kg of weight on your back for full immersion
not if I have a quick release
and every few minutes my character gives off what sounds like a woman's pleasure moans even though he still looks like a dude
I may be wrong, but I bet that's REBORN's way of telling the reincarnated Scar that it's the Zone quietly laughing at him or being amused/bored that he still hasn't kicked the bucket and will whisper sweet things in his ears. But, you know, REBORN.

I'm not sure if you already saw it, ManRod but Oblivion Lost Remake 2.0 for SoC is out and from the looks of it, it's like build 1935 but playable.
SGM, Redux, Dead City, MSO, several others, all for CoP.
Nope. Dead City is a massive trainwreck. Not even remotely close to SOUP/SGM fun.

Ye
I have no idea what I'm doing
I made my way to the CS base in the swamp then I got told.. something I can't even understand between the incomprehensible voice acting and the broken english. I tried joining freedom but their base is full of zombies so I went with clear sky instead and... now what?
I can't even tell if this is a joke mod or what anymore, if it was, then fucking bravo. If it's serious, this is the biggest mindfuck I've ever played so far
In Misery, is there some sort of über hack artifact container, gotta have them Compasses.

The icon is part of the ui_iconstotal image in your textures\ui folder. Just edit the particular part you don't like to whatever suits your fancy.
I'm not entirely sure this was in Vanilla but in AA2:
I was coming back from the escorting the scientist from the burnt chopper, I had a ton of great things to sell to the bar man when I was literally attacked by a sea of dogs and rats. There must have been at least 20 dogs and 10 rats, I climbed up to the windowed building the mercs shoot you from at the start and literally had to use all my grenades to kill them, they even chased me to the ladder.

See, this is why I said "a bunch of idiots".
I see and I do completely agree with you there. I'm sorry for jumping into conclusions too early.
