Arsenal Overhaul is good for adding shitloads of guns that actually have good sounds. OWR2 without the weapon mod is good for gun porn, but the addon pack that has the new weapons has the shittiest weapon sounds ever.

Also, my game keeps crashing all the time. It all of sudden freezes and you have to alt+f4 to get out and shut down the game via task manager. Any solution?

Another mistake. Always try vanilla first, then add sprinkles. (this is merely to capture the feeling of a game; how the devs wanted you to experience it. Otherwise we'll have instances where you're reporting stuff as being 'broken' while you didn't even try the game yet and it's part of the story lol)
I advice you to get this combination:

This will give you splendid gameplay and great visuals, while keeping the key story intact. It'll be a bit more challenging as the AI is pretty smart, but it'll keep it fun.

I did a few missions playing vanilla, like killing the stalkers for Sultan, but I accidentally shot the the friendly leader in the face, misstaking him for the enemy. Missions failed.
But the guns felt weak, like I was shooting a peagun. And you can barely hear your own weapon (atleast the AKS-74U that is.
My friend said you could start with mods or vanilla, it didn't really matter.

I'd say that for Call of Pripyat, there's no reason to suffer from the reduced draw distance and the scaled-down texture quality just because the computers at the time couldn't handle the increased view distance and upgraded texture quality of Absolute Textures (nature and structures).

For the sake of the story, always try vanilla. The only exception to this rule (for me) would indeed be graphical mods, but the association with Complete = Graphical overhaul just bugged me (and many others) as it does more than that. It actually managed to screw things up even more in the CoP version.
Trust me, once you've got OWR2 installed, you'll feel a hell of a lot more powerful, but so will the enemy NPC, so watch out. And most of all, have fun!
(Though, some weapons in owr2 sound as pea shooters themselves as well, but this will be fixed. I was rather annoyed by that so I took the sounds from a gun-mod i recently found and I'm using these in OWR2)

Well, my latest optimizations were so good that Bangalore can use a more diversified simulation.ltx he previously created that was choppy when playing. It has 88+ starting squads with 256 smart terrains! Runs smooth as butter now. I also think Borovos is working on a merge between a few of the maps and a new original map though I think the mod will be released regardless if that is ever finished.
The mod is going to be more then just a map pack and Alife. The mod literally cannot run without Pripyat Reborn at it's core since all the bug fixes and optimizations I have made over the years are pretty much required to run Alife of this size. OWR 2 will also be included. Aside from that, most additions will be necessities, like basic dialog function for traders, mechanics and sim NPCs. There will be a new stash system and removal of unused COP files among other things. We won't add forced features for "Immersion." If we do it will be optional and disabled by default. Quests may be possible but that is last on the list and they will most likely come after release as an addon.
Not only will the mod stand on it's own. It will serve as a base and give extra functionality and tools to modders who use it. I think Bangalore mentioned he may release just the maps, too, if you don't want to use the CoC "engine."

Only time I've seen that error with AN 3 is if you are using AN 3 full without it's all.spawn.
AN 3 uses an installer, so install that first. But rename the gamedata. Then overwrite AN 3 on top of Pripyat Reborn + OWR 2 + OWR 2 compatibility patch.

Goddammit >.< So many awesome weapon mods begging to be merged with an overhaul. I tried STCoP weapons the other day Lon3r, and your right, that m1911 is awesome. But vanilla environment textures, misc items, stash contents and loot distribution and enlgish voices, suck. Now if only I could figure out how to sucessfully merge with Misseri :I

Those animations are wonderful. You are right, the fire selector animation change when the slide is locked back is amazing.
How does one go about modding STALKER? I'm not talking about coding and all that crazy shit. Just small stuff.

What are you trying to achieve? For small edits, the gamedata decompiler and notepad or notepad++ is usually sufficient.
