If you've looked at any recent shots or took the time to watch the updates on Moddb, you would've noticed they're doing something totally different from LURK 1.05 / 1.1 :v:

*Shrugs* After playing the original for like 10 minutes and having my eyes melt from the sheer horror of its graphics. I never bothered following it afterwards.

Unpleasant aesthetics were pretty much just an artifact of 1.1, which is unfortunately the best known version.
The LURK team is pulling out all the stops for 1.2. They've set the standard for modelling and sound design in Stalker mods.
They've set the standard for modelling and sound design in Stalker mods.
This. I don't think I'll ever release something again that would be below this standard, and I'm speaking for myself here. They're seriously pushing the limits with the engine. I love it
I've nearly finished STALKER: Southern Comfort, and i really like it. The setting is new and interesting, the story is riddled with holes though. Wouldn't mind seeing a game based on it, The New Zone sounds awesome, and i kinda liked The Tribe.
Well, the stalkersoup manages to impress me with its overall balancing so far. The gunplay feels just right from what you can get out of Stalker. Playing on stalker difficulty (because loading times do not make for a fun experience save-loading every encounter for me), and it all feels nice. Enemies' accuracy is just right for them not to be elite snipers but manage to hit. Hits are painful, but not instakills (headshots though, player should always be exempt from OHK headshots, ALWAYS). Same rules apply to me, with the exception of limited ammo.
Mutants are a shame though, TOZ two-shotting bloodsuckers is just easy mode. Mutants are rare as fuck on vanilla levels so far, don't know why, is it normal? Haven't visited any added ones so far.

My probably biggest problem with Southern Comfort was that the author was too reluctant to let go of the old setting and it really dragged the experience down. He's showcased clearly that he can make a new setting (though the backstory to the new setting was kind of unbelievable) and create interesting setups instead of relying on the videogame series of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to carry him through. As such, he used them too much as a crutch in writing. Here's to hoping that GSC disallowing him from using the official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series' brands, characters, factions and anomalies would encourage him to have more faith in his original material because it's in my opinion strong enough to stand on it's own.

I remember the first version of the soup I played I had the BA-5. Shotguns seemed incredibly broken in that version, as after impacting bullets seemed to do some drop-affect causing incredible damage. I ran through wiping out the Monolith to some strange 80s sounding Russian action movie music.
Well the installation is complete, guess no going back now. Everything seems to run fine as far as the loading and entering new game... Good luck to me.
You will never be the same again.

The backstory isn't exactly an impossible situation, it's entirely possible that the US had installed labs like the X-16/X-8 complex and did the same research after word got out about what was happening in the Zone. Plus, [sp]The chinese were already there, taking as much shit as they could, so they were interested as well.[/sp] It's not a big stretch, Mercs were all over the Zone from day one, which means that the US could've hired them to snatch up documents from the labs. It's possible that the US had decided to use Pakistan/Al Qaeda/Taliban to make their own Zone by nuking Afghanistan and then conducting their own Noosphere projects.

Slav noosphere is the best noosphere.
No, really. I just can't envision a zone inside a "western-western" or "eastern-eastern" (Well, because soviets are "western-eastern") setting.
I finished that book and i have to agree with Muukkis, way too much stuff from in the games. It felt like an addition to the story, less of a new story on it's own. When i first downloaded it, i was hoping for a little more originality, but c'est la vie. Nevertheless it was a good read, very fun. Also jesus fuck, i read all but 50 pages in a row in one night.

I have the PDF, just gotta get my gasmask, vodka and sausage ready.
Well i killed both the rep guy and the merc leader, again. I get this crash every time i approach them though.

Wait what, i don't have a D:\ drive.
I'm done with LEGENDARY. The guns are to nerfed. It took me a whole magazine to kill a bandit in a trenchcoat. That isn't fun, at all. Gonna move to ZoA next.

Just go into the config folder in gamedata and edit stalker damage resistances for firewound. For SGM i put rookies at .2 resistance, then built up in .15 increments for balance on the other ranks.

Not sure what guns you're using. I've gotten a sniper AN-94 and it's taking everyone down in 5 shots or less.
Pretty much every NATO rifle I've come across is pretty decent too, once you get to the bar and beyond the weapon diversity goes nuts.

I miss making stalker videos

In ZoA enemies are kind of bullet sponges but not too much and the mosin nagant pretty much is an instant kill anywhere except for exoskeletons I think
[editline]12th March 2014[/editline]
Or its just that most weapons you find early aren't too good other than the mosin nagant

We're working on it.~
Recently we actually made a breakthrough regarding audio - using hookin scripting we can now do stereo audio instead of being limited to mono, meaning Daemonion can add a lot more dynamic range to environmental and firearm audio effects.
On the graphical front, our particle artist Buddie is working on photorealistic muzzle flashes and various combat-related particles. Millenia is working on texturing a G36 modelled by Maxi VZ. I'm finishing up miscellaneous models and clutter before moving onto fleshing out the gameplay in preparation of a closed beta.
However, we -are- looking for more people to come on board - especially modellers, programmers and general engine wizards.
Heh, I might once apply. The SDK's like an ex-wife I still love. I despise her and I just want to kick her in the groin, while when she actually does what I want I'd just hug her and love her.
I also know my way around particles but having 2 particle guys working at once .... impossibru. I did once made a sheet with new anomaly placements for PPx, but I've never used it to it's full potential. I might share some resources with you guys instead of actively working with you, too.
We'll see. At least I've known half of the teams members for a while now.
Also MISERY 2.1 release set to the 18th of this month.
plz modeleres join redux were more exciting make bildings w/ us ok

we ned u mor
Vanilla is better than I remember; I haven't played STALKER without mods in 6 years. My only complaint is the accuracy of most of the guns and how many bullets bandits can take before dying. Military I can understand since they're probably wearing ceramic plates, but not these cheeki breeki bastards. And grenades feel under powered.

I don't know what's going on in the video review since the video doesn't really play for me but the written review is pretty spot-on and fair, one clunky comparison to World of Warcraft notwithstanding.
while playing the game without using iron sights and wearing no armor.
That's video game video review magic, they probably chose to show fast action rather than slowly creeping up behind a bush and then firing single shots with iron sights that cover 1/3rd of the screen. The whole "wearing no armor" gimmick was probably done to make a point showing the player dying on-screen, not that they would have played the whole game without using any armor. Although going with the default armor at that point is essentially the same as not wearing any. Point is, that it's a fairly standard review that does those things because it has very little time to actually showcase anything of the intended "proper" gameplay and the only thing that's in my personal opinion wrong with it is the World of Warcraft comparison and saying that this game has hundreds of different NPCs without pointing out that most of those NPCs are just there as cannon fodder instead of serving an actual purpose in terms of the plot.
saying that the AI is too hard
This is quite an annoying complaint in regards to Shadow of Chernobyl at least because the A.I is pretty fair but it's not retarded which I like in an FPS videogame so it annoys me when reviewers think that the game's A.I should be dumbed down.

World of Warcraft comparison, saying that the AI is too hard, and other complaints all while playing the game without using iron sights and wearing no armor. Complaining about things like the inventory weight system as well saying that the game should prevent you from picking up more things instead of telling you that you have too much stuff and can't move.
Ah, the day we can have our own STALKER loner squad and command it like if it were Brothers in Arms will be the best day of our lives. Because, really, STALKER is just lacking that little strategy/team squad strategy touch
