the steam version of SoC doesn't really care at all how your .exe or .dll files are modified
Hard mods are very mentally draining :(

But you always want to play more
Use FOV switcher, as said above.
Somehow the cam_inert guide has not been added to the OP despite being suggested about 10 times.
console > cam_inert x
x = 0 to 1
0 = least headbob
There are more commands, but I forgot.
You can also use 0.1

Hyped, again.
Hi Facepunch
I'm playing SoC for the first time and I got to the X-16 lab in the Yantar. I'm getting my ass handed to me every time I go in there. I was able to reach the giant brain, but upon leaving, zombies keep shredding me with their smg's. I first went into the lab with 1 ak-74u/2 (with a scope and a grenade launcher) and over 1000 rounds of ammo, 17 medkits, 6 scientific medkits, and 7 military medkits. By the time I've reached the brain, my ammo is reduced to 5 rounds, my medkits are almost depleted, and my brand new monolith armor is almost broken. How do you guys handle this place? It seems almost impossible. I've learned snorks are able to be killed with a single bullet to the head, but since they're jumping all the time it makes it difficult. To conserve ammo, I started wrestling with snorks (jumping around them and knifing them) but when there's more than one I get mutilated. (I already aim for the head when shooting anything and I've been using the weapons dropped by the zombies as well.)
Any tips for a rookie that would be particularly useful for the X-16 lab? It's going to be my 5th attempt next time I try.

On my last playthrough I had to leg it once I turned off the brain. I only survived the pseudogiant because I had like 10 grenades. So, don't forget that you don't have to kill everything. I ran past the snorks that I could and shot the zombies with my last clip.

Play a higher difficulty if you're not. Enemies can get bullet spongy at lower difficulties.

aim for the chest and up, and save/heal often.

My 74u/2 wasn't really effective against the first psuedogiant I encountered. If I'm already low on ammo, I feel like I'm going to be in even more trouble.

I've been playing the game on master.
aim for the chest and up, and save/heal often.
Will do.
Also, how do I deal with mind controllers? How do I rid the effects if there is even a way to do it.
How do I rid the effects if there is even a way to do it.
The Controller effect should go away after you cross over to another level or quit the game and reload (though the levels are small enough that crossing to another level should be easier).
Also, how do I deal with mind controllers?
Get behind cover and start spamming grenades at them if you're not good at popping shots from behind the cover (cover isn't 100% reliable and especially in Clear Sky if the Controller initiates the attack to a certain degree it'll succeed regardless if you pop back into cover before he "launches it).
There's a really cheesy tactic you can literally curbstomp them no effort with but I'd rather you discover it on your own because it makes otherwise pretty imposing enemy just ridiculous. until you play AMK/ZoA that is....

Usually, I recall killing controllers with a knife only in case I didnt have cover. As they make you drop your gun and not your knife, you can rush to them and wtfuckstab them in the face.
playing the game with super jump and super speed is fucking amazing.
you get to hurl yourself across the battlefield, get to vantage points otherwise unreachable, etc... basically the more creative you are the more fun it is. but i didn't mess with health or anything (in fact i made all the weapons more powerful in general), so even though i may have a kickass nest at the top of some 4 story building, and can jump away at any time, one well placed bullet could take me out. it doesn't really feel like i'm cheating, just makes me feel like my character has super powers or some shit
i suggest trying it if you haven't already. all the variables are in the actor.ltx in the creatures folder.
here's what i set the variables to myself.
jump_speed = 18.0...
...sprint_koef = 6.8 ;7.0 ;7.5 ;6.9 ;7.6...
...ph_crash_speed_min = 1700
ph_crash_speed_max = 3000
ph_collision_damage_factor = 0
yeah yeah you can change values and stuff.

someone refresh my brain, the controllers are the little Yoda guys who use the force to pull away your weapons right?
from what i recall, pistols and 'nades if they take your main away, otherwise run around like a girl from cover to cover and shoot when they arent

Those are called Dwarfs, Controllers are the humanoid looking creatures that mess with your mind. Like pull your view toward them and smashing it back into your head, and in some circumstances or mods turning normal stalkers into zombies.
Be careful 'round controllers, as they can streak quite a bit of damage on you if you don't react fast.
I can't seem to find this item spawning mod I used a while ago.
it's for CoP, it allowed you to spawn a bunch of different stuff but also allowed you to spawn squads of NPCs that stuck together instead of a bunch of individual NPCs.
Be careful 'round controllers, as they can streak quite a bit of damage on you if you don't react fast.
Exactly, close the distance between you and the controller as fast as possible. You can either knife him if you have the balls and medkits or just fill his face with lead.
I would imagine a true Controller to hide in an attic somewhere while affecting anyone coming into it's psi effect's range actively. By taking over subjects one by one it could stage ambushes and a small bandit checkpoint of it's own, either devouring it's own subjects if nobody comes by or making mind controlled stalkers attack the bypasser while taking over the distracted stalker's mind and eventually making him eagerly slice his own throat for it.
I mean it's a commander type of mutant, its powers depend on, well, controlling. I'd imagine its larger brains to be capable of holding sovereignty over quite an amount of people or an even larger amount of mutants. The trick to killing the controller would be either systematically picking off its subjects or rushing past the defenses and putting a god damn bullet in the lair boss' head.
It's a very interesting concept as a mutant and of course I understand that the game can only do so much, but I find the mutants overall very fascinating and think often how they really could take full advantage of their abilities. I mean a controller maybe wearing a trenchcoat could disguise itself as a stalker at longer distances, surrounded by mind controlled stalkers. Closer by the psi field would reveal the true nature of the beast but perhaps too late if a small campfire party isn't prepared. Of course, zombies are very expendable to something like a controller and can die of starvation or defending their master anyday. The controller would have free reign in eating as much as it wants, whether it's the stalkers themselves or their food. I'd imagine it to be capable of consuming both equally as well, being largely human in origin anyway.
What do you guys think? A lone controller just walking in a straight line and doing consciousness bitchslaps to you seems underwhelming for a mutant with such great psi abilities. They are after all ranked to be quite dangerous in the game's lore and intelligent as well, at least compared to every other mutant which are completely feral.

IIRC:
GotZ
or
Atlas
So the only two mods for CoP I have are atmosfear 3 and absolute nature lite, and I can't get to the stingray 3 crash site without the game CTDing. Tried uninstalling Abs nature lite to no avail, and if I remove atmosfear 3 I have to start a new game because loading a game just crashes my game.
Not sure what to do.

oh right, the ones you fought in soc when getting to strelok's stash.
yeah, i just spam 'nades and lean and try to get headshots.
Playing modded STALKER drunk was the worst decision in my life. First, I was non-sober to the point that Oculus rift had nothing on what I experienced playing it 1 inch from my monitor and 5.1 headphones. Secondly, the moment I met Talking Flesh I screamed and alt-tabbed. I knew they were supposed to talk from the old stalker scripts, but I wasn't expecting it in the actual modded game (I had to reload a few times because I thought I was imagining things). Next, the emission. That was somethhing out of this world for me. I even recorded it on the second try.

You speak russian? Shit that must make playing stalker mods 1000x times easier.

I'm a native Ukrainian so yeah
So, I finally read Roadside Picnic. Good book, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the games apart from the concept of anomalies, artefacts and, well, the Zone itself. Oh, and bolts, the deadliest weapon in a Stalker's arsenal.

Well, the games are very loosely based on it.
