Ah, thanks, fixed. So yeah, that sort of stuff might be a bit much for my idea of a vanilla+ mod, but I know that I personally would play a mod for original ShoC that included that weird stuff. Also I prefer it if artifacts are of immediate obvious use to the player rather than being something you can only sell to scientists or where you need to scientists to study them before you can use them... but I do like the idea of there being certain unique artifacts that are strange, no-one has encountered them before, your PDA gives you explanation of what it is or what properties it has, and so they need to be studied before you can use them properly. Can also have some artifacts that are purely dangerous and have no benefits - what makes you think that reaching into an anomaly to grab a glowing rock will always give you something good? Again, that might be a bit much for a vanilla+ mod, though I personally like the idea. I basically want to make a mod pack that would be suitable even for complete newcomers to the game, and only add features that were originally supposed to be in there. Random blowouts were originally in the game but then disabled (and then implimented in Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat), and artifact activation is a feature that they fully coded in the game files as well, so I feel it adds back something that the developers intended. So, I'm going to see how well I do at merging mods...
This laser pointer is so impressive
So uhh, you know guys, that one of the older Lost Alpha builds has been allegedly leaked? Can't find anything in English at the moment, but a lot of Russian modding communities are discussing it since yesterday. I can post some screenshots, videos, even links that are going around if anyone wants. Can anyone confirm or deny? And before anyone says "April, 1st", yes, I realize that. But it has to be one hell of a big joke to stretch between multiple communities that hate each other.
How is the MISERY mod?
confirmed
Some testers decided to ruin our work. Whoever plans to download it i wouldnt suggest it yet. We will release a most recent version soon which is at least stable. The leaked one wasnt planned for public use, so anuone tries it shouldnt be surprised if we said we need more time to finish it. Links to the leak wont be tolerated here nor the discussions. Its a stolen material which is illegal to download. If you cant wait a little more then dl it but then youll need to download 10gb again in a few weeks. Support for the leak wont be given.Due to the unfortunate event LA wont be an official addon. Will remain free to download.
I hope that person who did it gets what he deserves. Something like this not only forces the team to release it for free as fast as possible (and it could have been a full game), but also kills any motivation and joy to move forward. They also planned to attend some events in the future, showcasing it, I guess that isn't happening either.

It was going to be sold as an official game/expansion with permission. I guess that is no longer the case huh?
From what I recall. It was going to be sold as an official game/expansion with permission. I guess that is no longer the case huh?
Yeah, with that leak it's most probable that it won't happen...
Yeah, with that leak it's most probable that it won't happen...
I never have personally understood why people "Leak" things. Especially something like Lost Alpha. I do agree. I hope some sort of karma or justice is acted out upon the individual whom leaked it.
I never have personally understood why people "Leak" things. Especially something like Lost Alpha. I do agree. I hope some sort of karma or justice is acted out upon the individual whom leaked it.
I don't understand it either. It's the same reason we're not getting that third book for TSW, because someone just had to set up a torrent of it and now Stuart doesn't stand a chance in hell of getting a publisher near it.
7 years of development was ruined in one day by a mindless twat. Wow, just wow.
Imagine doing something for free for such a fucking long time, and at the end it seems like all your work will finally be rewarded with being able to officially release it, make money out of it. And then some fuck ruins everything. Gotta give Dezowave alot of credit, seems like they decided to finish their work regardless. In their place I'd just release what I have then and there and tell everyone to fuck off and enjoy the bugs, crashes, balance issues, incomplete work. Or delete everything out of spite :v:
wow fucking fuck that asshole
I hope this ruins that dude's all future prospects.
Christ I'm hyped that there's actually a working build of Lost Alpha available for people but it also sucks how their work has been spread before it's supposed to. Here's to hoping they'll still continue working and plan to release a full build soon.
Shame they can't take cash for it now though :(
Dezowave doesn't deserve this shit, they've been working on this for too long and now they can't release it as an official addon. Also, 10GB? Jesus.
I wonder why this prevents them from releasing it as an official addon though...
I wonder why this prevents them from releasing it as an official addon though...
because if its leaked out everywhere publishers can't make as much money if Battlefield 4 was leaked 100% a few months before it came out, there wouldn't be much of a point in doing it anymore because a lot of people would just play the leaked version
I wonder why this prevents them from releasing it as an official addon though...
If the leaked version is incredibly buggy and horribly optimized, it will lead to morons assuming that it's current state is a representation of the final game, which could lead to unwarranted hate being leveled at the devs and the mod. I mean take rust as an example.
Crysis 2 was leaked, still sold well. Deus Ex HR was leaked, still sold well. Those are even SP games. The work on LA has already been done, it's not like the time invested would suddenly fly off and the content created dissapear on it's own. Closest thing to damage control I can see is having it follow the earlier plan of paid release. [editline]2nd April 2014[/editline]
If the leaked version is incredibly buggy and horribly optimized, it will lead to morons assuming that it's current state is a representation of the final game, which could lead to unwarranted hate being leveled at the devs and the mod.
and now they can't release it as an official addon.
Why? [editline]2nd April 2014[/editline]
because if its leaked out everywhere publishers can't make as much money if Battlefield 4 was leaked 100% a few months before it came out, there wouldn't be much of a point in doing it anymore because a lot of people would just play the leaked version
But it's not leaked 100% They say it's an eariler buggy, not finished release
I have a feeling that they didn't actually have a proper deal at all.
holy fuck if that's true then fuck that asshole jesus christ, poor dez and the gang sounds like an official release is pretty damn close on the positive side
Guys, please note that in Dezodor's statement, it's said
Due to the unfortunate event LA wont be an official addon.
instead of
Due to this unfortunate event LA wont be an official addon. Will remain free to download.
Might be that they couldn't strike a deal with GSC publishing and leak was unrelated. Because quite frankly, I too can't really see how these two can be related. Because with releasing it as an addon, on Steam for example, GSC loses nothing. Even if absolutely no one buys, which is unlikely: from the responses on forums I've been reading, people who used to be highly skeptical about LA, after downloading the leak they're now absolutely interested in seeing full version. Can't confirm anything myself, I decided against trying it as soon as I found out that torrent version was broken, but seems like the build is pretty good on it's own, but very buggy and shit. My bet is on leak being unrelated. [editline]2nd April 2014[/editline] Doesn't excuse the son(s) of a bitch(es) who decided it was a good idea to leak the stuff. They've got a special place in hell reserved for him for ruining the team's 7 years of work.
Sorry but that sounds incorrect to me, he's saying that due to THE event, it won't be an addon, that's about the same thing as saying this event. My 2 cents as a native english speaker
Might be that they couldn't strike a deal with GSC publishing and leak was unrelated..
I don't think that the wording would imply that at all, it's probably just an unintentional mishap by a not-native English speaker. But otherwise, I agree with your theory, because I've seen indications that Lost Alpha would've been free even before this whole shebang. Such as "will release for free" on their moddb page, before this thing was even brought to light. On the other hand, it, the leak as in and itself, would've probably been known by The Dez0wave team before the news were publicized so that might've been that. I do hope though, that people would find a channel to donate for dez0wave for their great contribution to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modding universe.
FUCK There aren't enough typefaces in the world to express my anger at this leaking fucktard Plot twist? [sp]Sergei Grigorovich leaked it[/sp]
Testers are the least trustable section of any dev team tbh; wouldn't trust them to fetch me an ice cream from the freezer, let alone keep secrets. Shame the devs got buggered over like this.
Reminds me of Black mesa pre-alpha/alpha leak if i have to be honest.
