sorry guys, but LA is dead..

Reminds me of Black mesa pre-alpha/alpha leak if i have to be honest.
The difference between an alpha leak and an almost finished game leak is huge. This is almost the final product, just not fully stable...
I wouldn't be surprised if Dez is overreacting; He's been sending death threats and various insults at random Russians all day.
Also Vintar has been posting in the comments section and he's got a far cooler attitude going.

Dez is the head of the project, but I hope that some members will keep on working on it.
Also, a lot of hate has been going around russian forums in the past years regarding it, no wonder when a russian game tester leaks it, they will be mad on the whole community. No one seems to care there even a little bit that it could have been a fully commercial product, with a much brighter future.
EDIT: also that dez comment and my reply just got deleted, so I guess they are still rethinking.
When did the Russian and English STALKER communities start hating each other? Did I miss a memo or something?
i wasn't under the impression they did but I have little interaction with the russkies

Some of the hate was understandable though, like that time two years ago, I think, when Dezowave representative opened up a recruitment for scripters IIRK on one of the bigger forums, and then denied every single one saying "well guess we're full", and then whole affair got deleted.
At least that's what I was told on ap-pro.ru. Then again, most of the communities are plagued by these unreasonable elements, mostly modders who feel threatened by LA. I fully expect the leak being broken apart and integrated into other people's mods as we speak. That would be pretty shitty to see parts of LA in some shitty "R.E.B.O.R.N. 3 Scarrs Raveng pt.2".

Not sure how I feel about this
When was it going to be a paid for expansion? I always thought it was just a free mod.

There were some questionable and not-really-open talks with GSC over having it published and endorsed as an official mod and addon for SoC. I don't recall anything more than general hinting and some basic collaboration over content found in the mod, though.
Isn't LA for SoC?
Isn't LA for SoC?
It is.
From what I've heard though, it's... kind of it's own thing. At least the build that was leaked works on it's own, and there was some talk some time ago about it being more or less "stand-alone".
Yeah, it's more like SoC is LA's "base"
Plus didn't they do stuff like work with GSC to incorporate that unfinished SoC patch and shit?
Official statement from Dez
Some testers have decided to ruin years of our hard work and have leaked the unfinished Lost Alpha to the public. This leaked version is not finished and not prepared to be released by any means. It contains render bugs that we've been working on since February among the other ones that prevent smooth gameplay.
It is stolen copyrighted material and it is illegal to download it.
Modders are forbidden to use any of its contents until official release.
Links to the leaked files won't be tolerated here nor the discussions about it. Any support for the leaked version won't be given either.
This unfortunate event crosses out any chances to release LA as an official addon to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. LA will be released as any other mod without official support from GSC.
In this situation we've decided to release the official version of Lost Alpha on 26th of April 2014.
On Chernobyl disaster 28th anniversary you will get the most recent version of LA. It won't be completely finished as we wanted it to be but at least stable and finishing the game would be possible.
On this day there will be official presentation of LA in Warsaw during 'Park in The Zone' event.
Man, why does every overhaul mod replace the LR300 with an M4
I don't want a fuckin M4 I want an LR300
Does anyone know how to fix the bug on OGSE where Kruglov wont move during the measurements mission? I go through the passing out thing then Kruglov just stands there and does nothing.

For some reason there's this prejudice against LR300 going around. People say it's literally zero chance to meet LR300 anywhere because it's a scrapped prototype and M4s are a lot more plausible, but what the fuck, same overhauls often add stuff like XM8. And are perfectly fine with FN F2000.

Fn 2000 is at least used by some armed forces(like Slovenia)
On the other side i have no idea how LR300 would get to Ukraine, i don't think they even make them any more

I mean come on, just some generic backup AR sights would work.

But it's so unlikely that either of them (and probably M4s) to make it to the black market in any noticeable quantities and make their way to the Zone. But then again, so are AS "VAL", VSS "Vintorez" and a couple of other things. Completely realistic arsenal of stalker would be fucking boring and contain a variety of pistols, bunch of hunting rifles, rare AKs, a couple of sniper rifles and that's it. So pretty much everyone equipped like Clear Sky in vanilla CS.
...So, wait, LA got leaked and now they're going to officially release an early, stable build?
I'm simultaneously upset and excited.
Not an "early build", it's the game, so basically polishing up whatever they have
The arsenal isn't that much about being adequate as much as it is about being iconic.
I mean seriously most of the factions ride on the fact that they all usually tote super unusual guns a Pleb can't afford or have unless he's in the cool kids club.
On the other side i have no idea how LR300 would get to Ukraine, i don't think they even make them any more
A lot of the weapons, according to the original design document, were supposedly chinese knockoffs of whatever weapon was concerned, so it's possible that the "LR-300" we see in the games can possibly be a chinese copy.

Yeah, I guess that's one of the reasons why GSC went with the AN-94 instead of the Vepr, which is what Ukraine's armed forces actually used. Or rather, had, because they were never really officially adopted for usage.
I wonder why more mods don't make use of the "fake" specular maps SoC has for weapons.
In AA2 it's only used on the walther p99 and the SVD but it would look really nice being used on other weapons.
Official statement from Dez
God, I missed a lot of things during my absence. It's really sad to see years of work being sabotaged like that. (Not that it's going to kill the development process but not being able to polish your work before releasing it must be really frustrating)

Well the thing is, specular isn't really used the way you expect outside of the static lighting renderer.
In DX9 etc, it instead uses the sky#small textures for 'reflections' on the weapon, alongside phong (I THINK?) shading for most models that have a spec mask in their textures.
The sky#small textures are also used to calculate the hemispheric lighting in the game as well.

...I just realized how much I missed working with X-Ray.
:saddowns:
As much as things have sucked for dez and his team lately, I gotta admit I'm stoked as fuck for LA finally coming out.

It feels a bit...hallow. To know that everything they strived and worked for, the goals they had, and the ambitions for success only fell short because of some testers who leaked it.
I know a lot of the people working on LA from the past 5 or so years and the dedication they have towards their projects and how much it meant to them to achieve what it was about to be. I know for a fact many if not all of them are either fuming in anger, or heartbroken over the event.
