It feels a bit...hallow. To know that everything they strived and worked for, the goals they had, and the ambitions for success only fell short because of some testers who leaked it. I know a lot of the people working on LA from the past 5 or so years and the dedication they have towards their projects and how much it meant to them to achieve what it was about to be. I know for a fact many if not all of them are either fuming in anger, or heartbroken over the event.
Nothing fell short. No work was damaged or lost. No money was lost either because it's free. The mod is still in development and the only difference is that it will be released in 'early access'. So for those of you who want to wait for the final bug-less release, it makes no difference. So, some people will play the buggy unfinished version while the proper version is still being made. You guys are blowing this thing out of proportion. I get it why the developers are sad, not trying to be a jerk, but let's just go easy about it and act like someone died. [editline]3rd April 2014[/editline]
Is this really what the lost alpha map is like? [t]http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/271/lazonedream.jpg[/t]
Some locations are different/in different places, but overall look & feel is the same. I kinda feel it needs frames around playable levels, like in older builds. Because of how good they're masked in the map, having hard time navigating sometimes. Also I love the fact that [sp]Sid's bunker is bigger[/sp] and [sp]you can see your legs[/sp]

And as such the road they were hoping for, being able to commercialise the work, is now no longer an option, and as such is a pretty hefty blow to Dez and his team. Given circumstances and plans for which I myself have no right to disclose after talking to Dez himself for the past couple of years and his ambitions following Lost Alpha and his dream for afterwards, which Lost Alpha would have been a stepping stone towards. So in a way maybe to some it's an over reaction. To those who understand the entire story and also know what exactly the aim was for Dez, it's a pretty big deal considering the events that have unfolded.

But at least I can say that the mod looks beautiful and I doubt anyone will be disappointed.
Alright, I obviously don't know the full story. But at least I can say that the mod looks beautiful and I doubt anyone will be disappointed.
I apologize. I re-read my post and felt like I sound like an ass in that post. But yes. On that matter I agree. Leak or not. I hope it doesn't turn detrimental for Lost Alpha. Especially seeing as the amount of hurdles and problems they have had to overcome and how far they have come in regards to those hiccups. And how fantastic Lost Alpha looks and appears to play.
Jamie you're too kind
Jamie you're too kind
I...thanks...I guess? Not sure what I did. :v:
Why is lake yantar so up north anyway?
The "real" Lake Yantar is to the left of Rostok, where it should be. The Lost Alpha developers are simply using the Build 1935 Yantar in place of the current, SoC, Yantar.
Also I love the fact that [sp]Sid's bunker is bigger[/sp] and [sp]you can see your legs[/sp]
I have a feeling the 2nd one is going to increase my immersion by a lot. I hope they have different arm textures for each armor too. Also I love [sp]The old-build style weapon bob[/sp]
Dunno why I didn't get around to trying AA2 earlier, it's actually pretty good. Is there a weapons expansion for it, or am I confusing that with another mod combination?
Holy shit LA is #1 on ModDB right now
that's not surprising at all
I wouldn't think all of black market would work for the Zone, honestly, M4s would probably be more interesting for other buyers. Especially given the weapon's shitty reputation, hardly a lot of people would buy it for the Zone conditions.
The M4's actually a damn good weapon if you take regular care of it. It's lighter than most rifles, and the short overall length and telescoping stock makes it wonderful for dense vegetation or urban environments, both of which are quite plentiful in the Zone. You just have to keep it clean and lubricated.

Gotta love walking through it and exploring the entire place with all the tunnels underneath it and abandoned structures on the surface.
You just have to keep it clean and lubricated.
Like any other gun ever made. I don't disparage M4, I don't know much about it, but it really has this reputation that's stuck to it. Especially around former USSR. And then again, given the setting we're talking about, why would someone possibly need M4s over AKs? Both would work, but one of them is cheaper, more widespread, easy-to-get round caliber etc.
I'm still kind of disappointed that we won't get the older, larger Yantar which really felt more fit for its name. Gotta love walking through it and exploring the entire place with all the tunnels underneath it and abandoned structures on the surface.
We are getting both. Yantar is going to be like the old, huge yantar. And the SoC yantar is being re-used as an unrelated cement factory. This information is on their moddb.
And then again, given the setting we're talking about, why would someone possibly need M4s over AKs?
I find it kind of funny to argue about Zone logistics because every explanation behind a gun being plausible to be in the Zone or not be in the Zone doesn't make sense, or makes sense, depending on your viewpoint, so long as you're willing to argue in favour of it. But to answer your question, I'd understand some Mercenary groups, particularly ones that hail from NATO-type countries and have military experience in the special forces of those countries, would want to use the weapons they're more familiar with, know the ins and outs of, and benefit from the extra precision/technical jibberjabber that supposedly raises that one weapon above the rest so therefore there is a need for western weapons as well as slav ones.
Huh I guess some people hate Duty.
Considering that yeah, some loners hate Duty and Dutyers carry Mein Kampf occasionally, something about this makes me think that Duty is not the developer-favorite faction.
So I decided to tag along with a Duty squad to the Shevchenko in Misery, only to have all of them get blasted in the face by the loners hanging out in the ship. Huh I guess some people hate Duty.

I'm wondering what the current map looks like, but I don't want to search up videos.. I'd like for it to not be spoiled too much for me.

dezodordezodor 16mins 19secs ago replied: New Comment stalker had 4 leaks before release, but 3 of them were 2001-2 variants, and a 4th was from 2005, but just a mp beta, which wasnt interesting. Half life 2 leaked in 2003, which was a pile of this-and-that, clearly wasnt finished at all, and the game was released in 2004. LA leak contains a 2013 autumn beta, which contains the whole game, all levels, all story tasks, just with tons of bugs of course, and a new rendertest. Now we should delay an other year, and remake the game to make it interesting again. Maybe you can not imagine how much pressure is/was on us during the years. If we would work on it for months, maybe a year again to change it, by the time we release it, modders will rip the current leak into pieces, which will appear in modpacks, and interest will be completely lost. Even if it would be released on steam or anywhere, mayority would download it from torrents, or elsewhere. Now it will be free, will be supported, and if you like it, or would like to support us with money, we have paypal on our main site. It was a hard decision, which had to be made so quick, but you have to understand that wee do not want to chain or life to a game, which will never be completely ours. LA is 50 percent GSC-s and 50 percent ours. We discussed the possibilities we have now, and found out a nice and working, maybe even profitable (in long terms) way for both sides. You can be sure we will start something new after the release of the current project, but more info later this year. :)
It's all going to be okay :)
Honestly I don't think it's that big a deal. He's right, a lot of full blown games have had leaks and gone on to be fine.
definitely gonna be throwing a good 30 quid at the devs on release
All's good now. "Thanks" to the leak, we will finally have the real deal this month, supported and patched, as opposed to maybe having screenshots and videos up until the summer or most likely even autumn [sp]of 2015[/sp] Leaker is still piece of shit for screwing over the team, but community might even benefit from it to a certain extent. It certainly influenced Russian community in a good way, before yesterday people were looking at LA with open hostility, suspecting that it's going to be a spoof, now there's zero doubt and a lot of people express their willingness to support Dezowave with money after the actual release. And we still have L.U.R.K., Redux, new and crazier editions of Soup and a lot more to wait for. I'm glad that dezo seems to be optimistic.
Just a random FYI, not really related to the discussion: Valve didn't change Half Life because it was leaked, they already started working on the 'new' storyline and levels long before the theft. Also, I'm not sure if I completely got what they said. They're saying that they won't work for an extra year, but instead just finish what they started and move on? (Which I would prefer, because even the leak is awesome)

(Which I would prefer, because even the leak is awesome)
From what I understood, yeah, he says that they had a choice they had to make on the spot - either rebuild everything, taking an extra year (which is assuming they would just do it properly and dedicate more of their personal time, and with no mishaps and fuckups etc), or release it as close to stable state as they can on 26th and then further support it. I'm glad the made their decision in favor of releasing the thing. Another year or more would've most likely just killed the project once and for all.
eventually you just have to let go and I think that time has come now for LA tbh, I cannot wait though, it's out the day I get back from training camp woop
eventually you just have to let go and I think that time has come now for LA tbh, I cannot wait though, it's out the day I get back from training camp woop
I shall be half way across the world by the time it releases, and won't be back till Late July. :suicide:
