It's only a few weeks. Honestly, I'm expecting it to be like SoC after waiting for it since 2002. It won't be quite what I expected but it's still one hell of an experience.
I still think that their quality probably surpassed most other mods. Even if it turns out to be a crash-prone hunk of junk it'll still leave a bigger impression than your standard touch-up with a dash of better guns mod. Remember the valley of whispers? I still think it was one of the better CoP mods because it didn't rehash stuff from other mods and games. LA sort of does it, and we've all seen the mangled and broken beta builds, but none were modified to such a degree.
Hopefully it'll provide a good baseline for mods thereafter, assuming they let people eventually use the content.

It's fucking ridiculous that the stalker games have a ton of options for changing up the graphics, but nothing for FOV. What .ltx or .whatever file do I open up to change that in SOC?
You need to replace a .dll to do it. Can't remember where one can find replacement .dlls, though.
Yeah, I used a patcher last time I played through but it's crazy that I have to do that. Can't I just go into the dll and change around a few values?

Frozen Zone update.
This cutscene is not going to be in the game. Just testing a camera tweaks.

Axon1988 • an hour ago You know these testers (at one point I was one of them) had to all sign a NDA, and mail it through registered post to GSC in Kiev. So there were some real serious things going on there. And I know that Dezowave have been working really hard at this, only for it to "end" like this. It's sickening.

I think we should be careful with getting too hyped; eventually it's going to reach the point that it can't ever be as good as people want it to be.
It is good though. I don't see how we could overhype it.

You sound just like Amerikanka when say that. In old days of Sovetskiy Soyuz, we have to physically pry out and replace bits in hard drive to get computer to work. And then only game permitted: Tetris. Good times, Tovarishch.
Underground areas merged with outside levels are annoying imo. You hear everything that's going outside, really distracting. I wish the audio engine would be better in Stalker.
I wish the audio engine would be better in Stalker.
I agree, it would make it that much more immersive.
I agree, it would make it that much more immersive.
10 meters underground, still hear bandits whispering overground. Is there really no way to make the audio better?
Way to Pripyat is actually really good mod
Is there really no way to make the audio better?
The only really way would be to use a lot of space restrictors, like L.U.R.K. 1.2 is doing in terms of the audio, in that when the player crosses an invisible "threshold" to what is deemed as being "inside", the audio switches to appropriate indoors ambient track. The L.U.R.K. dev team audio member explained, though, that these space restrictors would have to be added manually for every single indoor area.
Frozen Zone update.
I hope those footstep sounds are just placeholders because they sound way too loud, especially when climbing that ladder. Nonetheless I do have high hopes for Frozen Zone and can't wait for its release!
Just saw somebody post some screenshots of the leaked LA build. It looks wonderful, and to think that build is from last year gets me excited.
The leaked build, from what I've seen, is actually fairly complete. There's some lighting bugs in R1/Static Lighting, and some iffy geometry in some areas...But holy hell, it's beautiful. Atmosfear for SoC seems amazing. Dem lens flares. It's version number is 1.0rc3. And the engine is modded to HELL. You can see your own legs! And there's lots of features that I assume are backported from X-Ray 1.6/1.5, including the improved shadow cascading from CoP 1.6.02, sun shafts, DoF, alongside some other, mysterious goodies like possibly dynamic hemispheric lighting. This is just from a convar dump, of course. [editline]4th April 2014[/editline]
10 meters underground, still hear bandits whispering overground. Is there really no way to make the audio better?
You can place sound occluders in maps, but they have to be made in some weird way. I remember trying to make them work in SoC but having poor luck unless I fucked with the bar's sound occluder.
Seeing my legs is gonna increase my immersion quite a bit. Also its great that they backported the sunshafts. So many games (and stalker mods) use screen-space sun shafts which I think don't look too good, but CS/CoP's sunshafts are some of the best I've ever seen in a game and increase the atmosphere a ton. I can't wait for people to make mods for LA. Imagine playing LA with LURK 1.2's weapons :D
OGSE's screenspace sunshafts are actually really good, they look almost properly volumetric. But nothing beats REAL sunshafts. I think there's also better particle lighting, too. My friend sent me a screenshot of his headlamp casting light on a wind/dust particle. :v:

I don't think that it would become obsolete necessarily. I think one of the best things a mod can do is provide a solid foundation for new mods to move forward from. If LA can become a base for some of the bigger mods eventually we really could have that perfect STALKER experience.
Do you guys agree with dezowave that because of the leak people would end up making their own mods rendering the real LA kind of obsolete or something?
That's why they're releasing it ASAP. A 99% content complete version of Lost Alpha was leaked. There isn't much they can do except simply finish what they have now and push out a supported, more polished version. If they took any longer, modders would tear LA apart and and most of the content would end up in some Russian guy's shitty kitchen sink mod. LA seems like it'll have a really stable, expandable, powerful engine base for other modders to base on, along with a metric fuckton of content. Maybe we'll even get a tweaked SDK, as well.
I'm looking forward to Lost Alpha R.E.B.O.R.N.
I'm looking forward to someone inevitably shitting every one of SoC, CS, CoP, LA, old build, and custom levels into a single mod :v:

They have that strange SoC feeling but they don't look as weird. Plus the weapon bob and sprint anims seem great. Although the weapons themselves still have the original textures which might seem odd given how good the game looks. But man, looking at vids LA's maps look so huge. It's like what I was hoping CoP's maps were gonna be like before I played it.
