Will my stuff be safe if I leave it on a corpse and come back for it later?

Most likely not.
Most likely not.
Really? I've dumped stuff I didn't need just on the ground before and its stayed there the whole game

If you're talking about vanilla SoC / CS, NPCs do not loot corpses but the corpses will despawn eventually unless they are corpses of unique NPCs. Leaving stuff lying around on the ground also may result them in sinking through the level geometry so it's always preferable to find a container (any searchable container will be safe in the vanilla game). You're rarely if ever more than 100m away from a searchable container so especially when it comes to unique items it's better to be safe than sorry and deposit them in the "central" container of each level. For example in the "Garbage" level there are two containers that you'll walk across very often ; a blue stashbox in the little guard hut watching over the vehicle graveyard next to the Cordon level changer and another two blue stash boxes at the Duty checkpoint next to the Rostok level changer in the North part of the level. NPCs do not loot suits to my understanding but if they walk over a weapon they deem better than their current piece they can grab it.
If you put something in a stash container, it will be overridden if you find the stash.

Left it there anyway and thankfully it was all there when i came back a day later.
On an unrelated note, Bes at the garbage looks like Freddie Mercury.
In SoC, I always found the chest in the bar the perfectly place to store loot.

I'm sorry, Freddie Mercury looks like Bes.

I don't remember this being true in Shoc. I remember that once I did leave a bunch of ammo in a stash at the bar before I found the stash and after I found it, the items were just added to the stash instead of overwriting all the ammo I had in there already. I could be remembering incorrectly though, do you have proof?

Is it just me or did anyone even in vanilla stalker get a little iffy using stash containers at first? I always thought my precious loot would get stolen by some random stalker.

My head canon was always that Freddie Mercury faked his death, learned Russian, and went to the zone. And that is Bes's backstory.

It's also why I felt really bad when I accidentally killed him because I went around a corner at around where you find Kruglov and he startled me.
I don't think I can do this Facepunch...
I'm assuming I'm at the end, I'm in the network of radioactive tunnels and an omniscient voice keeps talking to me in Russian. This is all that's left in my inventory and I keep dying from radiation sickness or excessive loss of blood. What do I do?
(The hazard suit won't even protect me from the radiation...)

Here's what you do.
-strip to birthday suit
-drop everything in inventory
-take out knife
-charge at enemies with fury only a drunken Russian could muster
-die of acute lead poisoning
-load to last save
-return to first step
Pepper the heavy grunts into the face and constantly experiment hot zones(radioactive and high impact flying lead ones) with quick saving. If all fails do what Psycho said. I'd tell you to follow the magical spinny light of plot advancing, buuuut looks like someone forgot to get something on his way to the power plant...

But you always want to play more
I love the hobo phase of the harder mods. It's great actually having to pick your fights and decide whether to fight or run, instead of just shooting everything in the head with a silenced rifle.
So I installed an animation mod that affects pistols and shotguns, ABS nature lite, and atmosfear for CoP, and all my scopes are like this
EDIT: NVM, turns out there were some left over files.
Atmosfear 3 in conjunction with the animation mod don't work together, anyone know how I would modify them to, or is that something the author has to do?

Yeah. Having played Oblivion before I did not trust containers at first since Oblivion loves to regenerate all chests after X days.
Exams done!
Let Summer of Modding 2k13 commence!

That's what happened to me in [sp]Call of Pripyat, in Yanov.[/sp] Part of a quest though, but I haven't figured out where to find the guy yet. And reading a wiki is against the whole purpose of game IMHO.

Drop all the undeeded weight. Like these two suits and every weapon and ammo that's not FN2000. Before leaving for Prypyat' go to bar and spend every last Rouble on medicine and bullets. Mainly bullets if you're smart and keep to cover. Always use single fire mode and aim for the head.
My question: What does the GPS beacon do in OGSE?

[sp]ask EVERYONE at Yanov, I won't name who but ask everyone there that isn't a generic random npc[/sp]
^ Wouldn't really call that a spoiler as it doesn't give away anything, but if you wan't to do the quest without any tips, don't read it.
Lets you mark a location on your map. At the location it was dropped. I think I've used i t like once.
Sorry for the derp post inside quotes.

Doing one of the assassination missions for Sidorovich and the guy is in Rostok. I cant find a way to kill him without everyone in the map becoming hostile. I never bothered with the side missions in my other playthroughs.

Is he a random stalker ?
If he has a unique name and wields a scoped AN-94 (black looking weapon) he will leave Rostok once you trigger a certain plot flag (complete main story related missions in [sp]Yantar[/sp]
[editline]herp[/editline]
If it is a random stalker then you can load a save before you took the mission and re-take the mission and it will generate a new target. If the target is again at an undesirable location load again until the results are favorable.
However, you can kill random stalkers without flagging the entire Bar as hostile in vanilla using two methods. The first way to kill people and get away with it squaky clean is kicking an explosive barrel next to them and detonating. No idea if the Bar has any but here's another way.
It requires you to be in relatively good relations with Duty and neutral stalkers (again, it's kind if uncertain if it works buttt :
Pick a rookie stalker with a makarov or a similar low-power weapon while close to the target. Next up, pull out a pistol or a weapon with low damage output and peg them in the toe. You'll aggro the stalker and the Bar will warn you (and your relation with Duty and neutral stalkers in the Bar will drop some which is why being on good terms with them is advised). Now, simply stand behind the target you want to take out and the "hired gun" will blast their way through the stalker in order to get to you. The reason why you should contract someone with a low-damage weapon is that you're bound to take some hits yourself so you want to be able to heal the wounds when that happens and have more wiggle room when re-positioning yourself. Once the target is dead, you can either have the stalker chew through random bystanders the same way until one of them gets pissed off enough that they'll blow the assassin-by-proxy away. Another method is to simply lead them toward the dog pack at the Garbage and have the dogs tear them to pieces. This method was tested in pure vanilla 1.005 with no mod and I can't vouch that no-one will turn hostile toward you using that method but it worked for me. The "assassin" I used to take out the guy chewed through maybe 5-7 stalkers and seriously injured some duty guy before the dutyer got pissed and blew them away so that method of getting rid of the guy might prove something that requires a fair bit of patience.
