Do you guys agree with dezowave that because of the leak people would end up making their own mods rendering the real LA kind of obsolete or something?
I don't agree with that sentiment that Lost Alpha would ever become 'obsolete' but I do kinda understand Dez's worry. Sure, there can be content sips and compilations that shamelessly rip Lost Alpha's assets, but what I personally greatly admire in content mods is that the quality and style is consistent across the board. Lost Alpha (and all of the other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, for that matter) builds a thematic, an overarcing promise of consistency and quality that any of the compilation mods that combine elements from wildly different sources is unlikely to reach. There might be a lot of people who like mods that incorporate elements from wildly different mods, but personally I prefer a very consistent package that has the developer team's touch everywhere, as opposed to huge bits and pieces sticking out as not belonging to the mod. That's not to say compilation mods, even ones with really silly bits are inherently bad, it's just that they're not imo competing with the real thing, especially considering that Lost Alpha has a ton of stuff that they do that no other mod / game in the series does.
I'm looking forward to someone inevitably shitting every one of SoC, CS, CoP, LA, old build, and custom levels into a single mod :v:
S.O.U.P.R.E.B.O.R.N: The way to the Zone ~ Pripyat whispers.
Please don't speak about the LA leak in here. I know it's not my shot to call, but I dislike it. I don't want anything spoiled for me. Also, soft particles were in SOC 1.0006 with an extended renderer_r2.dll already (courtesy of OGSE).

That's all anything from Xray Extensions is, a gigantic hack based on debug files that came with SoC Rus 1.0006. Clever, but it will never beat a natively made solution ala LA's engine tweaks. LA seems to kinda be like X-Ray 1.3 :v:
I wonder if it has different arm textures for different armors It'd be kinda weird looking down and seeing your new armor on your legs but always seeing the same gloves/sleeves.

And did they say that it was either player shadows or seeing your body? That they couldn't go together? Am I rite? Ahhh, reminds me of FEAR 1 which is such a great game
I think it has both now. At least, it looked like it did.
Yeah, in the options it's either actor shadow or actor body.
Its clear for me: Interiors= Actor shadow Exterior=Body
So is SoC the most moddable of the three games, or is it just that these big mods started so long ago they couldn't switch over?

Now we have even crazier mod concoctions that are borderline insane. There are probably going to be some great addons that are going to be cooked up for LA, but I'm not looking forward to what the Russians will do with it. It's going to be like watching your child transform into a bloodsucker in front of your eyes. Scary.
So is SoC the most moddable of the three games, or is it just that these big mods started so long ago they couldn't switch over?
Somebody else can explain it a lot better, but from what I remember, SoC is the best for modding because it has the most "room" for it. All three games support mods, but basically, a lot of SoC's extensive modability comes from the sheer amount of cut content it had. GSC never cleaned this up and it left room for code to be re-enabled/replaced for mods, so basically you have all these little spots in the code where you can implement new shit, while CS and CoP GSC had cleaned all of this up and left less room for mod experimentation.

But AMK or Frozen Zone or RMA or Xray Extensions or OGSE teams? Oh god yes. Imagine what could happen.

I don't want to know what's in there until I can see it in all its glory. General banter is fine but don't be a dick and start posting screenshots, videos, or spoilers up in here. Is SGM still a thing?
Yeah, I agree with Beacon and Amez. Talking about the engine or technical shit is fine but please try not to share actual content, or at the very least give prior warning and don't thumb or img it.
port Stalker / Make a game heavy based in Stalker itself in UE4 that would be glorious

Some russians speculating that leaking was intentional, but hey, they have been speculating that there is no such thing as LA, and that just specific mini-levels were made for screenshots and videos

I like the missions and bigger areas in CoP, but SoC definitely had the best area variety. The only thing it really needed was bigger level zones.
I saw a bit of gameplay of the LA leak, and it still fucks me up that they kept the weird ass garbage animations for the weapons, especially the pistols. I mean, it's all the OG old stuff, but hopefully somebody will smoosh one of those gun mods into LA after it's released.
Can someone explain to me what makes LA more special than any other SoC mods? I haven't really been following the project and from what I can gather I'm guessing that it restores cut content.
find me a modeler
I may have found one. I just asked him if he would mind helping REDUX, waiting for a response.
Can someone explain to me what makes LA more special than any other SoC mods? I haven't really been following the project and from what I can gather I'm guessing that it restores cut content.
It's been in development for a long time. The guy who made Priboi story worked on Lost Alpha after its release and it was originally just going to restore cut content and make it into the game that was shown so much in gameplay trailers while it was being developed. They decided to go even further and try to make it into what it should have been; this means adding lots of new content that was planned and reworking the entire storyline and main quest to what it should have been. Not to mention all of the work they have done on the engine adding a DirectX 10 Render as well.
Can someone explain to me what makes LA more special than any other SoC mods? I haven't really been following the project and from what I can gather I'm guessing that it restores cut content.
In addition to what Seano said, yeah it adds cut content but the developers went way beyond that threshold. They began by re-adding cut content but as it came together it didn't look they way they had imagined because of the old assets looking rather dull, so instead they decided to recreate everything and make it what it should have been. It's not even considered a mod at this point because they modified the engine to suit their needs and it ended up being a standalone game. Besides adding cut content they also introduced a bunch of new levels as well, with the quality of a true game as opposed to STALKERSOUP and the like who also introduced new maps but with significantly reduced quality. It's something all avid STALKER fans have been looking forward to because it's practically a new STALKER game, and it was geared up to become an official addon but GSC severed the agreement between them and the devs because of the leak. Some are speculating that negotiations with GSC were already flimsy at best so who knows, but the leak most certainly had an effect on the decision. Later this month we'll get to experience what most of us have been waiting on for many years, other than sex of course.
I love Russians and their mods, I just got killed by a CYKA yelling Librarian(from Metro)
So does it still require SoC then like a regular mod does, or will have a different method?
